    Default Dev Diary?

OK, I know this forum has only been around for less than a month now, but wouldn't it be great if someone from Epic could just pop in for a minute and let us know something about what's going on? I know this is probably a silly thing to ask but I feel the need anyway.

You know, like couldn't we have a little tidbit about what's currently being worked on or refined? Difficulties in the dev cycle? A screenshot? How about a funny story about how Mark Rein recently tripped over the power cord of a level designers best work and totally fuxx0rd the release date?

Anything would be appreciated and it would give most of us something to talk about... We could let some of these threads die finally.

Cmon, Epic... You can't have a good relationship (with the community or anyone else) if you're not open.

    Thumbs down U bet

Any tidbit that a dev could throw our way I will read and be thankful for so long as it would not cost us a single day to get our hands on this game.

Does UT2007 have one? If it does this is the first I'm hearing of it.

I agree 100% with the first post. I think ANYTHING, even if it isn't directly related, would be nice. Just so we know that Epic employees other than Willhaven and Flak still care about our community.

I actually could care less about being surprised. If it's gonna be as good as I (and I assume most/all people here) hope it will be, it will keep people playing, which I think matters more than a 2 second "oooh" when you first run the game.

What? You don't want to be surprised when you find out all player characters have been replaced by llama's ? Or all guns have been replaced by Walkie Talkie's so they don't get rated as mature ?

    So it all comes down to this;

Less time to make UT2K7 and a Dev Blog
More time to make UT2K7 and no Dev Blog.

It would be nice though, if it was fortnightly (sp?).

    Or:

Possibly increasing the time it takes to finish UT2007 somewhat, while making the wait easier to get through by giving the fanatics something to look at.

    vs

The game possibly being done earlier.. and the big void of wait..

    I know what I'd prefer

The best reason to impliment this idea is because these boards are dead and we need something to talk about! Every thread in this forum has been exhausted for weeks for me... All I see is grey thread links.

Well they said either Q3 or q3, I think thats a looooooooong wait.
And I find myself looking at screens/vids from month and months ago, I love the UT series but I wish they would be more enthusiastic about it.

If the wait is as long as the q2/q3 indicator suggests Im quite sure nobody should be overly enthusiastic about this game just yet.. because they'll burn themselves out.

Last thing we need is its biggest fans getting tired of waiting for news and updates on a game that might take its sweet time coming out.

To be honest, If they was planning to bring it out halfway through next year then why would they release as much info as they did?

I HOPE they bringit out sooner, Q3 next year is just way to long.
Im buying my PC when Vista is out, regardless of if it will run UT2k7.

for ut2k4 I waited 3 months before buying a PC for it.. n that was long enough.

For some reason this reminded me of cliffyb's blogs. http://www.1up.com/do/my1Up?publicUserId=5474264 and http://www.cliffyb.com/. That should keep you entertained while you wait for UT07.

He has good narration, but I find his writing style to be to explanatory.

    It's like:
    "why this?"
    "Because of this"
    "Oh neeto"
    "*Insert Semi funny anecdote*"

    Rinse, repeat.

I dont know what cliffy was on about with that 1up blog about jump. Perhaps he's been playing too much gears, not saying a game needs jump to be fun but umm I think there are plenty of games which having jump is key to gameplay. It doesnt make these games any less fun having it, infact I think there are plenty of 2d and 3d games that use jump and other vertical movements great. I even found some of them fun!

It was probably a reaction to something said about gears or something. Its interesting to read though, I do like the occasional jump puzzle game myself. Its good to see a mix of gameplay, if its the same reaction from a player time after time (kinda like point and clip combat) it can get alittle boring.

And ontopic, I would sooo love to read about issues etc involved with making a ut game. Not to mention developers comments on features and some of the crazy brainstorming ideas that got canned

Wait till GOW comes out then ask this question again. We probably won't get any new/good info till then. So mid november is a best guess.
