Default Custom Models and a fallback model option.

How do you think, will it be more difficult to make a model for 2k7 now, with the amount of poly's being increased a lot for normal mesh models?

Also, I'd like to suggest to add an option in player's settings to specify a fallback model. In UT and UT2003/4 if you use a custom model, other player does not have on his/her PC, he/she will see you as if you 're using of default characters. Due to that fact though some players like most one of the custom models, they stick to a standard model they like most, because they want others to see them as they like.

A simple fallback model option, that would allow the player to select the preferred model from the list of standard ones, in case other players don't have custom model he uses, would've solved the problem.

They can do whatever the hell they want for custom models but for the love of god, leave force default in for the people who don't care about your crappy custom skin.

Even without Force Model, you won't see custom skins unless you choose to install them yourself, or because they're pushed by the server (which is rare)

Well, it doesn't make a difference to me, as all I will be seeing is Gorge.

I did. It still says Force Default has to be in for people that don't care about custom skins. I don't care about either.

At any rate, go bug me in IRC about it.

You know you could just continue talking in the irc channel about this. :/

EDIT: I see your edit and raise you a post in the irc channel.

Oh and, if you do end up actually reading my post, I don't care if they add in the much needed fallback option. That's fine for the people who don't want to force default.

As long as we can choose the damn fallback model (UT2k4 was stupid Jakob and you can't change it) then i will be happy.

Same, as long as I can choose my fallback model. No more Jakobs! I would also like the baility to choose another persons model if they dont choose a fallback model

I like this idea alot more than I like forcing of characters, it kinda makes choose one of epics characters pointless. This idea is good though because we dont get stuck with the one default all the time.

True and Thank God for that.
Why lag the server and my pc just so you can run around as Homer Simpson in his underwear?I want something like the UT comp option. To be able to put the model and skin I choose on my mates and enemies. Not so much to make enemies a fat ass Gorge, moreso to make it like any other team sport.2 teams,2 types of uniforms, period.

No client-settings for fallback-models/skins of any kind.
If all you want is to see Gorge (or whatever skin/model makes you think you can see 'better') then you should play on a server that enforces that setting.

Setting the fallback-model/skin should be done by either server or the creator of that model/skin-combo.
There should be no way for players to set a (more visible) model/skin as an alternate.

You have to be the character you are forcing in UT 2004, so it balances it out.

    Let's make the things clear:

I mean not an option on the client to set how the players look if client does not have the model, certain player uses. It's not some kind of forcemodel for those skins you don't have.

I mean an option that allows a player to choose one of standard models, the other players will see if they don't have a custom model that player uses.

So, f.e. I play with agent Smith model. Other players who don't have this model will see Jakob. Now, with this option available, I set Guardian model as a fallback one. In that case, players that don't have Smith installed, will see me as a Guradian and not as Jakob.

I hope they allow this, because I love my custom models, but I hate Jakob and Gorge. If people have to see me as a model I want to look like something cool, like Divisor, so to me this option is a must have.

It would also be cool if you could choose to over ride someone's selection on your PC. Say someone's fallback model is Divisor, but you enjoy watching a bunch of Satins bouncing around, then you should have an option to do so since it would only affect your PC.

If the second option was put in I would also want to be able to change someone's fallback model to a custom model I have installed on my game. I would personally like to see a bunch of Jade Cat models running around than I would any stock model.

Fallback model ok, but force model is horrific in ut2004 because a lot of people force model Gorge but they themselves turn into Gorge and I'm so sick of seeing the fat guy everywhere !!!!!

I found custom models and voices a real pain in the ass in 2kx, as well as custom crosshairs. After the ease of Ut99, the new content was just a pain in the ass to get in-game. Not sure why that should be. I hope Epic makes an intelligent packager for these things, so they're plug-and-play, without the hassle. We need fifty files for the new models, to add in shaders, normal maps, and so on? Fine, just handle it for me, okay?

...we'll be reds, you be blues?

An option I'd really like to see is the ability to force models on individual players, as opposed to forcing them on a per team basis or for everyone. I really like being able to recognise players from a distance without having to read their names.

The character/avatar is 'me' in the game.
I don't want anyone else except me to determine what I look like.
    Got that ?
I mean ... it's the one chance in life that I can look big/muscular/good ... don't deny me that opportunity.
