    Default Lack of Media?

I don't know if its just me but i think it's kind of unusual for a game that has been in development for years and that it's now on it's final stages of development to have so less media content avaible. Don't get me wrong, i've just loved the E3 demo and every piece of content avaible but i think it's just not enough for "hungry" fans like myself and probably like many others in this forum, i bet. I've been thinking and i've came to this kind of theory: When the game was on it's early stage of development, the more we had to see (zero hour video, anyone?). We had 2 types of levels (urban type and forest/industrial type), a vehicle, we got to see the rifle and the pistol and we have also heard the mission assistant (Anya, isn't it?) on the 2nd level at the entrance of that factory. And on the final stages of development, we have almost nothing new besides some screens and small news from time to time... I think if we compare, on the early stages of development we had more content at once.

C'mon Epic... Give us something more!

(Sorry for any grammar errors, english is not my native language.)

I totally agree dude; the news front is PITIFUL at the moment. However, you have to bear in mind Epic have their ass on the line with a publically confirmed release date - it's crunch time for them in a BIG way.

Even to the extent they don't have time to knock out some screen shots or video for us.

It'd be fricking awesome if they could mind you Lets see some of these improvements since E3! (such as lip sync!).

i know mate ,i was thinking the same thing myself but they have revealed quite allot about the game already. If they reveal too much it would spoil the excitement for us and for epic .If you go to ign.com they have 66 images and 13 videos for g.o.w thats quite allot ,if it was 6 images and 3 videos then i would be wanting more.It seems like ages ago since they announced the official release date ,time is flying its nearly september.Once the 17 of september comes its only 2 months exactly until we finally get the beloved game. Then we can talk until our hearts content about what we love and dont love about the game.

I understand that, but how hard could it be for them to show us some more in-game levels/scenarios? ...it's almost a "print screen" key away.

Also, thanks for the welcome message!

Hum... i got that, but if you go to ign and take a look at all those 66 pics, you will notice that a big part of them are artworks (game artworks and the book artworks) and others belong to the unreal 3 pseudo gears of war tech demo(not even called gears of war at the time). Actual in-game pics, besides the characters and a couple of scenarios, are almost none. In some other sites you will also see many other pics but a big part of them were also taken from trailers, so.... meh!
The videos of ign are almost the same thing... very few. Besides the few trailers, the quantity are only given to some different camera angles and different shows, but at the end it's the very same few content.

That's my point of view of course.

I think if there is a lack of media, there will be just too much media when the product will come out...

I also agree with the media not being too strong. They have shown us alot in the past for early development gameplay, but I think what the concern is now is we want more footage up to date.. I for one could totally live with some up to date footage of gameplay in the rainy night level.. The thing that is on most gamers minds IMO is we havent seen any recent media on the game, so that we know how its looking now days, what improvments have been made on graphics and framerate.. Im personally not looking for spoilers by showing new levels, just want to see how good its looking... Although I wouldnt mind seeing some CO-OP multiplayer footage, just to see how it works.. Also I wouldnt mind seeing how there melee idea is panning out (still havent seen a good curb stomp) LOL Anyway cheers, and who knows maybe they will put some HD stuff out soon.. Gotta wonder though, why wouldnt they be able to show some new stuff, it takes no time at all for a playtester to press a record button, unless the game is in really bad shape and they dont want people to get the wrong impression of what the game is going to look like!!! Some people are very critical on footage they see in early development games, and start to point out all of the faults they see, which in turn makes them convince themselves that the game is going to lack in some areas.. But a game this far along, this close to finishing, should be looking and running very close to what they are goaling for.. IMO I think the reason Epic is not releasing any new footage is so that they close the doors on those critics that will point out all of there mistakes.. This way all people have to go on is early footage that looks really good, which makes people think since that was so long ago and they have been working so hard on it, its going to look so much better.. Wether it looks alot better or not come release time if they have that thought in there head due to lack of media doesnt matter, because people will think it does and they will buy it anyway.. If they show media that looks exactly the same as early footage this late in the game some hard core game critics may see that there was no graphical improvments and could have negative things to say about it, which wouldnt be good for Epic just before launch.. I personally am going to buy it no matter what it looks like now and Im sure most people would agree that the early footage looks good enough to consider the game to be one of the best games to come out in 2006 and probly most of 2007...

You sure like to push the keyboard buttons, don't you?
FiringSquad: We have seen how good the game looks, but can you tell us how does it uses the Xbox 360's multiple processors?

Cliff Bleszinski: I’m not a programmer. It uses the processors. It looks hot. Ask me about the chainsaw!

I'm also going to buy no matter what because if in the early stages it was good enough for me, now it could only look better!
The main reason that i've created this thread was just to express my feeling towards to the lack of media (imo) but unfortunately i didnt noticed that there was already a thread talking about the same thing. Now i know that it will be a lot more coverage and media at the time of X06.

    Looking forward to that!

I take it your just stating your opinion on how I wrote my opinion also.. I will from here on in use paragraphs, so that people get the impression theres less to read.. I know its bad grammar, but so is my spelling so I didnt think it would matter..

yeah but maybe theres no footage so were more excited for the game and really the locust arn't supposed to come out of the ground till Nov. 12 so maybe Epic doesn't want us to know much about them, they may have other features that Epic doesn't want us to know about. i dunno i'm prob. completely wrong but oh well

it's a marketing strategy from Microsoft and Epic. The best way to attract your audience is to give them a little to whet their appetite and then completely starve them so that their hunger instinct stays consistent. Your desire or want for the product is fueled by your lack of knowledge about it (e.g. no vidz, screenz, etc.). Trust me once we have the product in our hands, we won't be able to turn our heads without seeing something about Gears because by then our faithfulness to Gears is already set in stone so all of these ads we'll see after Gears goes gold will only fuel us to play the game. It's the art of psychologically drawing us in and then completely abandoning us so we're left to act soley and impulsively on our want for the product.

I would have to dissagree, maybe this is the tactic they are using if so its not a very good one. Because yeah it may have people wanting it more. But it may also annoy people that want more info, in result having some people lose interest all together, because you have to remember there are alot of games coming out at the same time, some of which are looking really good because they too are using the Unreal 3 Engine.. There also competing with the release of PS3, if they want to sell the amount of copies there anticipating then they are better off keeping the gamers interested by showing new footage.. Other wise people could give up on checking for new footage and with all of the other media attention for other games coming out they may forget it even exists until November 12, by that time they may have spent there money on other things!!!

you don't want hopes to high to where players get let down
By showing new content you shouldnt be letting gamers down because the content they are showing is true to the game (not CG) that being said if anything it resolves the question as to wether or not the game is going to be even better then it was a year ago.. What I mean is, wouldnt it be worse to see all of the footage in 2005 and then see nothing until release late 2006 just to find that there was little improvment, I think that would let down the players.. If they show new up to date media then the gamers will know exactly what there getting come release date so theres no room for dissapointment.. If theres no media released since early this year and it gets release looking exactly the same a year ago, then there will be dissapointment because the gamers are lead to believe that there is all of these improvments, and polishing as they put it going on!! But on the other hand they can leave it, not release any new footage till release and it could end up looking WAY better then early footage which would make the gamers very happy. But the key is they have to keep the interest level up..

If they just continue polishing the game and extras, with out releasing any new media, news, or Demo people are going to start to look and notice other games coming out because theres nothing to look at with GOW.. When they see theres other great games and or systems coming out, they may spend there money els where come November 12!!

I think they are doing this because they are saving all of the media for the big events like X06 (late sept) so that the media gets to more people rather then just us on the message boards.

Come on dude, you honestly think that when new media is available on GOW that people in message boards are the only ones that will find it?? The second a highly anticipated game like this has new media no matter how small the media is, it spreads like wild fire on all of the site like ign.com, megagames.com, gamespot, 1up, etc... Yeah they may be waiting for a big convention to release new or more media, but it dosnt really make a difference to the gamer except for the fact that we have to wait for a spacific date!!
