    Big Grin Soundtrack

One thing I really liked about the original UT, was its goddamn awesome soundtrack. Really loved it. I listen to it on my ipod too.

Now this new HD trailer, towards the end, you will notice the similar music. Not the same but you can recall the original music from it.

I wish UT2k7 has a whole new mix of that original soundtrack.

The trailer has a remake of KR's "UT Theme Redux". It sounds just like his other songs so unless a new musician is mimicking his style of composition, it's probably the same guy.

Yes, i love the music from UT'99 and the remixes too. Also in UT2004 was some good music, like KR-SkaarjAssault or CorrugationRise. I hope that there will be a few remixes of the music from previous UT titles.

I like the singleplayer intro music in UT2004. Actually, I like the whole intro despite it not making any sense in reference to the game.

Sadly none of the rest of the music in 2K4 was up to the same standard (at least I didn't like it much).

There were always tracks from Unreal and UT that I could listen to as pieces of music. However, I never felt the same way about the 2K4 music.

Or to put it another way. It took me 3 years to turn off the in-game music in UT. In UT2004 it took me a week.

I've got the entire UT99 soundtrack on my MP3 player. =) I want 2k7 to have as stunning a soundtrack that I can enjoy outside of the game as well.

Personally I would prefer them to spend more time on atmospheric sound effects and weapon sounds as I always turn the music off anyway.

A better inbuilt mp3 player would be good though.

i dont get why they stick with riepl. the only good tunes he made were remixes of original ut songs. all his songs have that "ambient" attidude. they never get to a point where they push you into the game.

his music might be good enough for a number of games, but it doesnt work well with the ut-franchise.

Doesn't matter to me and a lot of other people who just turn the music off. Epic can hire whoever they want for all I care because i'll just turn the music down as soon as I get the game.

i turn the music off when i play 1on1 games, but for "non-competetive" games music is a very important factor for me when it comes to the atmosphere.

The reason I turn off the music is so I can hear where people are on the map by the pickup sounds, etc.

I just don't think Alex's music would work now.

It did when the maps were really dark, but now that there is some light I think Kevin's style is more suitable.

Oh well, I turn off the music as well.

One main argument for UT 2004 is that it has higher quality.

I want to know why people think UT is better (and because you heard it first is not a doable excuse).

2007 needs a healthy blend of electronica and classical music. A mix of both in one song works best.

There's a UMX decoder plug-in for winamp which allows them to be played. I then used Lame output to record the UMX playing in winamp to MP3. It takes a little while to do all of the files and most of the track length times were messed up, but those can be taken care of with a wave editing program very easily.

UT is nice with songs from Yello. Maybe they should put some in 2k7

IMO the big problem with KR's music for UT2k3 and UT2k4 is that he got the whole concept of fragging music all wrong. In UT2k3 most of his music is either ambient (very annoying because it makes it hard to tell what's actually game sounds and what's "music") or theatrical pieces with *shudder* violin riffs. Rather than get me pumped in the action, they annoy the heck out of me when the music gets into a heated piece right when I'm not actually fighting anyone.
Some of his UT2004 pieces are a little better, but they're still too pumped up mostly. Take songs like Action1. That might work well in Mortal Combat 23 (which I believe got released somewhere in 2005), but in UT2004 the pacing's all wrong, especially with no enemy in sight.
The worst thing in his music is the echo he puts on nearly everything though. Absolutely awful. There shouldn't be any echo in background music. IMO it's a cheap trick that makes it sound "professional" without actually having to write proper music, but in reality all it does is smear every sound out making it harder to actually hear what's going on.

That said, KR-Rankin is pure brilliance. I'd say it's at least at the level of UT1's music. Great flow in there, no annoying changes in the pacing and best of all; no violin riffs. (it could've done without the sudden drop of the drumline around the 2 minute mark though)
DM1 (DM-Asbestos) and Corrugation are pretty good too.

Still that's just a few good songs and a whole load of... not so good songs.
Take DE's addition; Level3 (DM-Compressed) or Level16 (DM-DE-Grendelkeep) are both incredible, but all of the LevelXX songs are good, really (Level7 and Level9 are the worst of 'm though)
I still think Menu1 should've been UT2k3's menu music out of the box. Brilliance!

That can't be helped. It happens with maps that have the LevelX music too.

In your opinion how many musics create the perfect addition to atmosphere? Four? Half a dozen musics?

The only game whos music I can tolerate is Half-Life 2. Every other games music is overly intrusive and just irritating.
