I've always loved CTF ever since the original UT and still play this gametype rather frequently no matter what Unreal title I may be jamming away on at the time. It really is a shame that CTF is so under-appreciated since the maps are so fantastic in UC2. Not to mention, CTF is just so damn fun.

Basically in TDM, even if your teamtes suck, you might can still make it out alive, but in CTF, if your the only player on the tea, your screwed really.

Thats not true. As it has always been in UT, 1 great player can hold out 3-4 really good players in CTF. It's always been this way. If you have the flag you force the other team to have to kill you, and if your half decent, that can be alot of work. the CTF maps far outshined the TDM maps and deathmatch is boring. in CTF camping gets you nowhere. you must have a solid offense AND a solid defense to do well. DM you just shoot and tally up the points. Not so easy in CTF.. at least it wasnt when I played. No lame ass frag limit so you and a buddy could chip away at eachothers for hours if you wanted.

DM is just frag after frag with no thought or reason. thats why you think it's the most balanced and it may be. but In CTF with an objective to do. There so much more to offer! Maybe you just needed to play with 7 other above average gamers to get just how fun and intense CTF games are. DM has nothing on CTF period.

Back in the good old days i always played CTF. I wouldnt mind playing CTF i hate TDM though cus if you dont have good teammates your not gonna win. At least in CTF you can kinda be a one man army. All the TDM have clans and they will always want to be on the same team then your stuck with the random noobs i hate that.

Competitive CTF games filled with skilled players are exactly the type of games I was referring too. I played CTF on all unreal games I have played, on consoles and PC's and it's all the same. the better the players the funner the game. What the hell is this supposed to mean?!? would you rather camp in a corner waiting for someone to walk by like you can in DM? or is that the tactic you can't exploit because theres an objective involved and scoreing kill means nothing over scoreing flag caps.

CTF is an objective based game where a team can show true skills in every category. IE: Teamwork, Fraggs, flag defense.. or camping if you would rather call it that, flag runs.. or the ability to avoid death/fire.

This question has been answered. Thinking back at all them times when we (BPM) played real competition. Guys like RiP will tell you that a room filled with great players on one & on the other, makes an exceptional CTF match. And believe me, we all tried both gametypes. I find it to be more of a rush playing not just CTF, but CTF with the best of the best. It's the real way to play teamwork. CTF= Nothing but good times.[face_cool]

See I never got there on UC2, I played ctf like twice when I was online.
In 2k4 thhough I'v eplayed alot, and I'm pretty damn good at it too.

Many times I have been the one man team, but still, take this same game in 2k4 and it's alot crazier.IT's fun, but I guess I don't like to work for my wins TOO hard.Plus team games just piss me off, cause some dildo can get you killed.This happend alot less in UC2 than 2k4.It's jsut more ransom team mixes in that game.So it makes crazy crap go down in general.ONS is even worse IMO.

Just play with a duo of shield rapist, and you'll see what I mean.

Team Games are always hit-and-miss. Whenever it works and the teams are evenly matched, it can be extremely satisying. However, a good majority of the time everything is terribly unbalanced and makes for a nerve-racking experience. I've learned to accept my role and help my team even if it requires be stuck with a plethora of noobs against some hard-core clan.

your wrong dood. My PC isn't quite up to par with 2k4 but I can play UT99 and I have logged countless hours on that game playing CTF. You can't honestly tell me that CTF in UT99 is much different than CTF in 2k4? I have had a few chances to play 2k4 at lan centers and I found nothing new to the game. I'm a UT nut, been playing UT99 since it's release and still play it religously!! The competitive level may have droped but believe me man, hammer jumping with the flag while under fire is an art. It's difficult to pull off with nubs shootin at you because it only takes 1 shot to throw off your timing and angle. Currently im stuck on BFME2 demo.. because im broke and don't have the funds to purchase the retail. But if your up for playin a little UT99, im down. I know a few good 1v1 servers.

Like I crouch, charge my hammer, and you jump on top of it with your shield up.You get launched across most of the map in most cases, and if there is a little team work, you can usually just get shot around the map by your mates.

Thats just one big difference.

I can honestly say the two are alot different man.Like in CTF on 99 I can telefrag almost anyone anytime, but on 2k4 it's not gonna happen that easily.NOt to say it's not masterable on 2k4, but it is alot harder to do.

Seems to me that the CTF vs DM argument is just personal preference. There really is no sense arguing about it. If someone played CTF or DM and doesn't like one or the other, then that's their loss.

Back in the day when the Unreal servers were up, SV was great, imo. Now, there's no point when a host has the advantage. And not enough people play, so you playing SV with the same few people everytime.

I can't say I agree with most of that. I have played quite a bit of 2k4 on LANs and I don't see that much of a difference. Granted I have never seen that shield technique you are describinng but it can and has been done on UT99, it's just done differently. What you do with the shield gun, I did with rockets. My team could grab the red flag on lavagiant and get rocket boosted OVER the middle mountain and land inside blue base. Whats the difference there? same thing different technique. The only REAL difference in the games are 1. Graphix 2. Hitboxes and 3. Double-Jump... well I guess you could add a shield but that alone made UT99 that much more difficult. Larger hitboxes with no shield? I, personally have found it much easier to telefrag with a trans that moves faster in a straighter trajectory/2k4 trans. Regardless the only reason I don't play 2k4 is my home PC can't handle the system requirements.

Why go through all that when one translocation can get you there just as fast, if not faster.The only thing is actually knowing how to truly aim the translocator beacon.Im speaking 2k4 of course.Lava Gi ant was always an easy amp to rape on either game.Though it is technically only on UC1 and 99.There is a version out there for 2k3, but it's alittle different.

Either way, you still missed my man point, and I think this may go for more peole than you guys realize,but that junk gets old fast when it's always like this stalemate situation.

I'd rather be winning or losing, and in the scenario I'm spaekin of usually it's like 1 point every 7 minutes.

bah!! What you seem to find boreing is what I find fun. A stalemate in CTF means both teams have defense locked down. Gives you a real good feeling when you finally break through and grab the first cap. You should download the Levitation movie. they have a flag run that just looks like it was and insanely fun game!!.
