    Default Unreal Championship 2 (Sequel?)

Is there any plans for a Unreal Championship 2 sequel I really like this game with weapons and melee. (just for mentioning, the game is in spanish too, I played the single player campaing and everything was in spanish.)

If they do decide to make a sequel, I hope they increase melee's depth.

Bungie isn't really to blame here, lots of Xbox Live titles have done well since last Novemeber.

That being said, if they do decide on a sequel, the melee system is going to need some work. I'm not the sort of gamer who belives that a shooter should be solely a test of aiming abilty, and nothing else. However, not only does melee lack any sort of aiming requirement, it doesn't really have anything to substitute for that... It feels shallow.

UC2 melee may be more advanced than melee in any other multiplayer shooter, but most shooters put very little or no emphasis on melee combat, so they don't need advanced melee combat. UC2 tries to make melee almost equal to regular weapons in effectiveness, without requiring the same level of skill or having as much depth. That's where problems arise...

Of course it's probably extremely difficult to design a game that's essential both an excellent shooter, and at least a decent fighter. And that might be the reason why no one else has even attempted this.

But if Epic did manage to make melee work better, an Unreal Championship 3 could be a lot better.

Crunchy Nacho, I do agree that melee is easy to do. But when you face someone who knows how to play the game, melee isn't going to get you any kind of easy kill. In fact, melee is usually used to finish someone off. UC2 is designed so you have to use every weapon at your disposal. You have to strategize. I'd like to see you get one kill using just melee on me. Sure, it happens sometimes, but only if I let my guard down. Most of the time, melee gets people into trouble.

I think they should take the lock-on out of the game. That'd reduce the amount of noobs abusing melee, and making themselves look stupid. They are the ones that make melee look so bad. When you are a noob, and you're constantly being meleed(sp?) by other noobs, you get a bad taste in your mouth and instantly think melee is too easy. But after you play for a while, melee isn't that big of a threat.

I can tell from your signature that you aren't into UC2 much. Usually the tyical UT guys don't like UC2. But this game is hardly an FPS anyway.

Maybe they can make something like the chaos mod for UT2K7

I never really felt that melee was too effective, just that it's too easy, simple, and overused. It's like the Unreal equivalent of CS's auto shotgun. Like the auto shotgun, you won't see great players depending excessively on melee, but it's very easy to use. However, there is one key difference, not everyone spawns with an autoshotgun in CS... This results in servers full of people using nothing but melee.

I like the concept of players being able to fight immediately after spawn, but I would like it even more if that weapon was a bit more skilled-based, like HL2's gravity gun or Halo 1's pistol. Of course, this may have been by design, to make the game more begineer friendly...

Anyways, sure with the exception of the occasional Jug, melee isn't much of a threat. It truly is best used as a finisher, close range weapon, or weapon of last resort. Sure, I could even immitate 'melee noobs' tactics, but that leaves me playing an extremely shallow fighter with optional shooter elements. Personally, I would rather just play a fighting game than do that.

A simple, and often suggested, solution would be to remove auto-aiming, err.. lock-on for melee. Increasing the amount of ammo pickups would help a little as well.

A more complex, but potential more interesting solution would be to make melee more advanced so that it requires just as much talent as guns, just a different sort of talent.

BTW, overall, I like UC2. I just got tired of the bugs so I'm waiting for the patch before playing again.

I agree that they should take out the lock-on. But I fear that they won't because it's already a big part of the game. Just like I know Bungie won't take out the auto aim in Halo 3. Because noobs need it. But then again, UC2 is much less noob friendly, and anyone that plays for a while knows that the lock-on isn't that necessary in this game. People will defend it, but in the end, it doesn't actually do much except make the game more noob friendly. And being able to see someone's health is kind of a bummer for me. But that's mostly because in a death match if your health gets low, you may get every noob in the room on you doing frantic melee for an easy kill. Not that they will get it, but it's kind of annoying.

Epic made this game with melee in it. Then alot of people complain about it, because they did not like it, (even though they knew the game had melee in it) so everyone that complains about melee is a stupid person.

Not you crunchy, I am talking about all of the "n00bs" that like to call other people "n00bs'.

Exactly. ShakaM knows. Once you play the game for a while, all melee complaints go out the door. Unless you're a die-hard FPS fan. Then you probably shouldn't play this game if you wish it was an FPS.
