    MAP-DM DM-OSR-Steamed

    DM-OSR-Steamed
    UT2004
    Version 1.0
    New Textures: 1 (myleveled)

    8 - 14 players

    Filesize 4 MB zipped.

Made for the UnrealPlayground 'Old School Rulz' mapping contest.

Lacking a bit of polish pretty much everywhere. But I'm letting it sit as is so there will be no future changes.

I tried to make use of steam to play with 'line-of-sight' gameplay. I hope you find it interesting.

Lighting, botpathing, and placement is a little wonky as the contest had a 10 day time limit and I only spent 7 days on this.

Still, although far from perfect, I hope you enjoy this.

Feedback - Positive & Negative - is always welcome

    Download from:

    UnrealPlayground
    NaliCity

This map is very old school-ish (which i guess is the idea). I like the whole fighting through the fog thing. Nice map man!

Be it that we're only to use BSP and that you had only 7 days, I can understand that some elements aren't as refined as I'm used to while looking at your work, AV, but it particularly struck me how huge the coronas in the map were, and how far away they've been placed from their actual 'sources'. The size of the coronas is somewhat explainable because it's a foggy place, where coronas tend to get bigger than usual, but maybe a bigger texture for the coronas would've been more in place... they look so stretched.
The steam definitely does it's job. Bots actually had an advantage over me in here, just because they don't rely on sight, so, nicely done.
The fact that you only had like 7 days or so covers up for much, but man I would've loved seeing more colour variation in the end result for lights, I got lost in the layout because everything looks pretty much the same too. Are you planning on refining this map for a 2.0 release?
    Good going dude

    just shy of 4 MB

*Added that info to top post.

    And thank you Sjosz
Yes the coronas were larger to simulate being hazed in the water vapor. As for their distance from the lights, the lights are recessed and I wanted the coronas to shine through most of the time so I compromised and moved them a little farthur away from the light than normal. Thus, no obscuring BSP.

Thanks to those who give it a try.

    It feels hot in there.

Really I am almost scared to jump into the steam. I like this map a lot considering you only had 10 days to do it.

Good luck mate in the contest, when will we know who wins?

I don't know about hot, its kind of cold down there. Its seems a mad scientist has been playing with a batch of liquid nitrogen, look what happened to the inside of my computer.

    Chilling

    Big Grin Highly advanced.

Decent industrial map with a hell lot of steams (includes jump pads and sounds), fragging totally crazy to me when I sticked into these things. Good scaling on the coronas though and skybox. Bots are fine here but seem congregated in the steams though.
