Default Is Proximity Voice possible on xbox 360?

It was the coolest feature in halo 2, but it hasn't been used in any game since. Or at least no other game that I'm aware of.

I heard that because the dashboard handles voice chatter now it probably won't be possible. Any truth to this? Just wondering because it would be a cool feature in gears.

I don't think so, but I'm not real sure.

I think any game on the 360 can have it, but most don't. Just simply because some people do not understand how to let only your team hear you. And also i don't think there is a spare button, so GoW can not use it.

It doesn't have to have a spare button. It could just be through the head set for your teammates all the time and through the tv for your enemy when you're within a certain distance of him.

i think that was to pick up his ammo, thats what they do, they hunch over and pick up ammo, if u remeber the SP demo when marcus goes and picks up the grenade ammo, cliffy has to press "X" to go down and pick it up, in GoW u have to press a button to pick up ammo, so i dont think he wa crouching, and if u get close to ammo and u dont press "X" quickly the icon of an arrow and a box will appear but if u go straight up to it and press "X" fast then the icon might not appear but in the SP demo it just flashed for a sec

But in the MP vid i posted he crouched repeatively, so i dont think he picked up ammo, maybe he was switching weapons?

Zoso watch the first MP video again, and wait until Gus chainsaw the second locust, be sure to watch the bottom middle of the screen, then u will see the arrow with the ammo box icon show up and it says "X" to pick it up, then Gus goes down(does not crouch or t-bag, lol) to pick it up

ok proximity voice is that whole chatting w/ the headset right?
If its not an availble option in GoW *Which i hope it is!!*
    Thats going to suck...
I was really looking forward to screaming like a girl when I see some giant locusts come charging at me and blowing out my friends ear drum
And it would make the MP a lot funner so you and your allies could communicate and draw up a plan to eliminate the other team

They're like, man that really hurts!
    Damn right, it really hurts!

well this would be for MP, so you would hear the enemy moving and walking, maybe even hear the clanging of there steel armor or something, u might get to hear there voice from the headset, but that would be kinda dumb i would like that, u should only be able to talk to ur team, but when u get close to ur enemy u can here them moving around alot better

ya that would be a good idea, maybe when ur near a locust u just hear them in there crazy language and when ur near a COG u could just hear random one-liners n stuff, so that when ur near an enemy u hear something so u know that ur near them but u dont here there voices/plans, but i doubt they will have this, all EPIC should have in GoW is being able to talk to ur team and thats all, all the other stuff just complicates things

Locusts do not speak english by nature. Therefor it would not seem logical enough to listen at your opponents talking english to each other.

    So I hope not.

Have you ever met a locust?

They could speak English. Locusts are very intelligent, after all they planned an attack that bought mankind to its knees. And they watched the serians, and waited for the right moment to strike, so they could very well speak English?

proximity voice is simply you hearing the other team... its not some crazy technology that only the first xbox was capable of doing with halo 2. Its transmitted the same way you talking to your team is... so its just if they want to impliment it or not.

Hope its implemented in Gears of War, that would be fun over live, send some spies to gather intelligence. =P But wasn't it confirmed already as a feature? I read somewhere that your characters lips are syncronized with your voice.

I've just wet my pants. I heard that too but thought I was dreaming! AWESOME if it's true!! Experience shows you don't get to see facial movements in game, but I bet it would add to it, especially in single player co-op. Team Fortress 2 was trying this back in 2000 as well.

Did anyone remember UT2004 had voice commands for the bots, if you installed the SDK? Using a mic you could say "Alpha, to base 3" and they'd respond "Acknowledged" and move out. That was IN UT2004! I'm hoping that'll be in GOW as well!

Real Time Lip-Synching was confirmed a few weeks ago.

Proximity chat is another issue entirely. I'll be interested to see if they use it. It's fun in some games, but at the same time it leads to lots of trash talking, screaming, and bad music coming in over my headset. I'm sort of on the fence with this one.

    Yeah, that's another good point.

However, Gears seems to be based on the idea of a game having a little more swagger and attitude, so I figure that proximity trash-talking (along with tea-bagging, etc...) might be part of their plans.

Anyways, getting back to the question.

Proxy speech has been used in the 360 game Battlefield 2 Modern Combat.
U hold X to talk to your team (enemies can hear you when u are close to them). Or u can just talk through the headset and only people around you (teamates/ enemies) can hear.

From this article, it seems to infer there will be proximity chat.

    http://gearsrealm.com/2006/07/03/gea...e-lipsynching/

It references "...so that your character appears to be speaking using your voice..." and "...even be able to tell if you are whispering or yelling, and animate the character’s face accordingly."

These comments infer clearly to me (er contradiction there Maddie) that priximity voice coms will be in.

    This lipsynching thing interests me.

I wonder just how foolish I can make these characters look with that feature. I'm betting...pretty foolish

As long as they don't do MOUTH SYNC like Earnie and Burt, we should be OK. lol

Clans will help out with the whole abuse issue I think; to be held up in a bunker and look at your buddy shouting orders / abuse; to see his LIPS moving as he does it... oh my. I've gone and wet my pants again, damn it.

The thing is, Rainbow 6 had this feature. I think it's cool. It funny looking face to face with a friend and having him say all sorts of crazy sh**.

I think proximity voicing is definately possible and really should be implemented. It fits the game perfectly. Such as in halo. Picture this scenario, Marcus and Damon are pinned down behind fallen pillars, they would try to communicate with each other to coordinate who will lay down suppressing fire and who will move. Of course any locust nearby is going to hear them shouting to one another. Additionally, they want to speak with Baird and Augustus who are moving to flank the enemies up ahead, they of course would then speak on the radio to communicate ala white button for team chat in halo 2. It is a perfect fit and would add still another level to this already amazing title.
Don't make me go Ed Norton and curbstomp you!!
