I'll try to make it simple...
Basicly, I always liked CTF allot. Yet I fell in love with the Bombing Run gametype,
wich is, as you know, on the verge of extinction.
Personaly I always tought about BR and CTF as relatives, kinda like brother and sister.
Tough there are some fundamental differences in gameplay.
I started thinking, what makes BR so much different from CTF?
The first thing I came up with is the fact that a ball is much more versalite then a flag.
It can be thrown, dropped and passed to other players.
Try to imagine doing the same with a flag, I tought of, "maybe you could throw and pass it like a spear".
But I realized, that if you'd want to throw it, you would need a 1st player hand model.
And since UT character vary so much in style I tought, maybe it would be better if you had something like a ball
launcher. So I came up with... Harpoon-launcher!
Think of it as CTF, but with a flag you can pass to eachother using the harpoon launcher.
The thing is with BR, allot of people don't like the fact that you can't fire a weapon while bieng the carrier.
So, simple, make it a switchable weapon and hotkey it.
Now, the Unreal universe is settled in a distant future with aliens, bigass plasmaguns and nano-augmented
juggernauts.
But most of all, it is held by an evil corporation and driven by a bloodthirsty crowd...
Let's make it even bloodier!
When you spawn, you are tied with a bomb to your body. Screw up, and the gibs will fly.
The objective is to take the enemy Harpoon, wich is basicly a flag with a sharp edge. It acts as a detonator for the
team's bombs. Everyone carries his Harpoon launcher.
The thing is:
-Get to the enemy base.
-Steal their Harpoon
-Move on to the detonator
-Inject the harpoon into the detonator (by shooting? Or just walking? Need your oppinion)
-Watch the enemy team fly to shreds.
First tought was to use your harpoon-base as detonator, but a seperate placable one would be more flexible and you
could be more creative with the gameplay, and you could just aswell place it next to your harpoon-base.
Another thing is, should your team have both harpoons before bieng able to detonate?
And should you return the harpoon by carrier of instantly like in CTF?
Should you be able to stick the harpoon to walls? (prolly anoying when you shoot into the wrong places)
Should it be called Harpoon, or rather something like "Spearhead"
there are still things wich I don't know what would be best, so community input would be appreceated.
I think, if executed correctly it could be a fun gametype.
