    Post DM-Dust2k5

    Name: DM-Dust2k5
    Version: Final
    Compatibility: UT2004

Description: The classic de_dust map from Counter-Strike: Source modelled in UT2004. I've tried to keep the basic feel of the CS original, while making the level flow better in UT2004.

    Comments:
This is my first real UT2004 map, so don't expect tooo much
Weapon placement is based on FFU's DM-CSDust080 as that map flowed really, really well. It was my inspiration to make this version in the first place. Been through about 3 betas, so pretty much everything should be good.

it looks pretty nice, but i lost faith in dust a long time ago. not a very good map on counter strike, but it still looks alright. i would of rather seen like Prodegy or Office remade.

    Nice!

Had a lot of fun Beta testing this one, it proves to be a good TDM map, thanks largely to the weapon placement and the size of it... lots of trick jumps and ultra smooth gameplay. This one wil stay on our Server for a long time to come.

WD Eky... can't wait for the next one!

You gonna remake some more of the CS maps? The shadow of that palm tree looks killer

When I saw the thread title I started to roll my eyes, but for a "first real" 2004 level, this is pretty good.

Looks pretty good, I'll have to try it out. I must say that I would have preferred Office but beggars can't be choosers, eh?

I was curious as to how you got the textures out. I mean Hammer isnt the most friendly editor out thee, in fact its hatefull and seems to fight you most of the way...

You have to extract them from the gcf's. I didnt have to use Hammer at all

Although, some of the textures I made by taking screencaps in-game, as I couldnt find the texture files for them :\

Its nice to see Dust converted to UT but theres something about the screenies that makes it seem different somehow, and the only thing that pops to mind is it kind of looks "too clean". Even with the rubbish lying around it doesnt look lived in.

Its a nice job though and ought to be fun to play. Also I agree that Hammer is a nightmare editor compared to Ued. How people make such good looking maps in Hammer is amazing.

looks good mate, nice to see a real map and not make belief.

looks differnet, as if something is missing can't put my finger on it . This map reminds me of Teddies aztec map.

Looks much better than Dust080 which I already have (although it does play very well IMO)

I'll certainly download this one tonight to see how it plays.

The map looks great.. but.. You say you took the textures from CS: source.. you did ask permission for using them, otherwise you are distributing copyrighted textures, which isn't a legal thing ofcourse..

I cant see Valve getting bent out of shape over textures that have been used a zillion times in custom CS maps. Alright its a UT one but I think they have much bigger fish to fry.

de_tide would make an excellent DM map with it's layout.

Re DM-Dust2k5, the textures look a bit bland compared to the oiginal versions which in turn makes the buildings appear more like blocks then they should. The terrain also needs to be less flat then it is.

It's a nice version and especially good being a first map, I'm not trying to down your efforts but I'd like to see the map refined more. You've taken a positive direction in how you've done the UT2004 version so far, but it does feel more like an initial bsp build rather then a final at times.

I look forward to seeing your next map

Playtested it (in instagib). The level is quite big, plenty of room to run and gun, it's a bit difficult to fiqure out which area you're in sometimes (because they all have the same textures). Nice thing about the visuals, it performs nicely (something I don't tend to see a lot from custom maps. The exploding barrels are an interesting touch.

I quess you'll need great hitscan aim to do well in this one, because as mentioned earlier, there are big areas.

    Overall, nice map eky!

Good Stuff. Now we have Aztec and Dust. Soon we will have CS:Unreal
This is funny, because just very recently a guy ported an America's Army (Unreal Engine) map to CS.

Am I the only person who thought it looked very dull and boring?
Yes its a remake of the orig dust, but this is the unreal engine and it could look so much better.

Also the fence near the 1st bomb site looks outta place with the rest of the map.

Im not *****ing as I know I could not do a better job, its just mo of the map.

There is a reason for that fence.. a very especial reason for it. Look closer lol...

I think the map looks like DE_Dust2... wich is what it's meant to look like.....

And without the unneccessary eye candy (Wich has little place in the middle of a fragfest) the map plays like a DM / TDM map, wich is it's intention....

I'm from the old school of maps and firmly believe eye candy has a place, just not in DM maps or CTF maps... they are for fragging...

That said, there are maps out there that combine both elements successfully, but when you're in the middle of an all out brawl you notice nothing but gibs flying....

I think the intention of the mapper here, was to provide a port that was both reminisscent of it's origins and embracing of the UT gameplay elements.... and on that level I think he has nailed it.

Sorta it has a retro feel... but it plays like the present... o_0

ok enought.. im loosing the plot again....

It's based on de_dust from Counterstrike: Source, not the original Counter-strike. Dust in Source has a very different feel from the original.

I love daytime maps, and wish there were more of them. I live in Tucson, and it's a pretty bright place. A lot of darker maps are unplayable until late at night.

Yeah same. The whole UT is a bit dark for my liking
