Need help making a character

I have watched some of the tutorials but I have not found one that tells me how to put the 2D images in to the program so I can start making it 3D. The first video on character making has two 2D images in it that they are using to help with making the 3D character. I would like to know if there is a video that shows me how to make a drawing of what I want my character to look like and how to put the image in the editing program or if someone can explain it to me.
