How do I get the mutators I download off the net to work... which folder should the files go in?
Ex. The Santa Hat Mutator.

I placed files with a ut4mod extension in the system folder yesterday (for UT2004), but they still don't work... the only mods that work are Target Practice and Santa Hats II.

By way of analogy, ut4mod is an archive of compressed files similar to an archive of compressed files created by Winzip, in that the files are compressed in the mod, in the same way files are compressed in a Winzip file. You need a program like UMod Browser to view and extract the files from a file with the ut4mod extension. You can download UMod Browser from this link.

Most maps, skins, mutators, etc, come in zipped or other compressed filetype. After you download .zip or .rar files, you will need to unpack them using Winzip for zipped files and WinRar for .rar archives. WinZip and WinRar programs are free downloads, but generally have a nag screen if you use them past 30 days or so. After you unpack the files, place them accordingly, as listed below:

Put .utx files in your ut2004/textures folder
Put .u files in your ut2004/system folder
Put .upl files in your ut2004/system folder
Put .ukx files in your ut2004/animations folder
Put .ka files in your ut2004/karmadata folder
Put demo 4 files in your ut2004/demos folder
Put maps in your ut2004/maps folder
Put .ogg files in your ut2004/music folder
Put .uax files in your ut2004/sounds folder
Put .usx files in your ut2004/staticmeshes folder
