    gfx

Hey all, I was kind of curious about gfx? I know like nothing about this. I'm kind of interested in making some sort of animated transparent texture, to get an idea I'll use the movie minority report for example, you know the sort of glass montor high tech thing? How can I achieve this effect, I'm thinking it would involve photoshop work and 3ds max or maya? Hoping someone is advanced enough to help me out with this.

actually I'm thinking this would be done entirely in 3ds max or maya, which one I dont care since I'm going to have to learn maya anyways for college. I'd like to have the final object as a static mesh, but all the texture stuff involved, I'm wondering if I should just do that in maya or max. Thanks for the pointer to the tut, I'll go ahead and play with it for now and see what I can do with it but I doubt I can get far with this method, I'm thinking that this is more like "tween" or something, the anim I'm thinking of would require a crapload of frames or something. I'm not sure, I have to fiddle around I guess. I'm just hoping someone who has done this before might be able to help me out.

well, you could make a texture with an alpha channel in Photoshop, then import it into ued.

OR! in AS-mothership there are these monitors you speak of. look in the final room and ending movie

yeah I'm kind of thinking like the computer monitor screens like on As mothership but I want like certain elements on it to move, like imagine a sort of "metal gear" rotating, or like a few horizontal lines moving up and down and like 1 vertical moving left/right and maybe some blinking buttons etc, stuff like that.

you have to animate that yourself, frame by frame. save each frame as bitmaps, then import them and chain them together as an animation in ued.:bulb:

for rotating stuff or stuff which moves around in a simple way you could use a texrotator or a texpanner. you could afterwards combine them together and overlay other textures which dont move around or whatever.

i think you should read the following page and make yourself clear what possibilites you have (and follow the link in there about modifiers):

Actually I've already figured out some of the material system, not all of it tho : /. I will continue to tinker around with it.

btw: i followed your ctfx link in your sig and must say the layout of your maps looks great you really have to get used to the ued material system to give your maps another push. look into texture packages of other maps and find out how others did it. gl !

lol yeah I remember those days : ) you'd just click a radio button in texture properties. Zubspace, thanks, I try really hard to have good layout/flow. And Z axis . I agree tho my lack of knowledge of the material system is kind of irritating me, I'd like to make some cool effects. I've already figured out the rotate texture stuff, I've got one gfx going on right now. Two rotating textures with alpha stuff going on, the two textures are rotating in oposite direction, looks kind of cool. I like the material system I just need to learn more, what works what doesnt work etc.
