    Post DM-BelowTokara

    Name: DM-BelowTokara
    Version: Final
Compatibility: UT2004 - No extra files needed
Description: Set in the former drainage system for the Tokara Forest Arena. Later refurbished to provide a practice arena for the Tokara Forest competitors. After the Forest Arena became mostly destroyed from the constant tournaments, the forest and practice arenas were left derelict. Now, disused and slightly run-down, the practice arena was recently re-acquired by Liandri and opened as a tournament arena.

Looks sensational ... as always I am grateful for a good DM map and if this plays half as good as it looks then man we are all in for a really wonderfully bloody deathmatch! Yeah!!!

Well I played it and found it pretty fun, bots were everywhere (good) and though the layout might look as if the flow might suffer, refreshingl enough it doesn't ... the jump pads are nicely done and are for the most part useful. I really liked the look and feel of this place ... creepy yet somehow friendly if not for the bots. The only thing I didn't like, and it's just a personal choice, were the wood textures. They just didn't look real enough compared with the rest of the map. The stairs on the tree houses and the pipe like structures in the cavern passage felt "odd" for lack of a better word. But that's just me. I think I would have liked to have seen a rusted metal look for the pipes but I know that would comprimise the organic quality of the map. Anyway another good job and a great map for large fragfests. Thanks.

This map now has additional mirrors, including a magnet link for peer-to-peer downloading via the Gnutella network, screenshots and additional information on Mapraider.com:

I just played a bot match on this map. The bots are a tough cookie on this map. Great work with the emitters. I know that they can sometimes be the biggest pain in the arss. The only thing that I found with this map that I had a minor quibble with is that sometimes I found it hard to see the players. But a little tuning of the gamma fixed that. The pond with the shield is a great touch. (running by getting shot at and wondering where from then I realized that there is a bot hidden in there.) Now that is truly original. Keep up the good work.

Thanks all, I'm glad you like! And thanks very much for the distribution you set up.

Feel free to set this up on servers, I've uploaded it to a redirect site as well.

Anyways, thanks again and have fun!

I came across a comment on another site that indicated that the bots were not pathed at all. Has anyone else encountered bots being stupid? Or do they play competantly? Please let me know because if they're not running right I'll gladly fix them!
    Thanks

Truly Amazing! Two tiny things though:
    1) Some of the wood in the treehouses looks a bit wierd.
2)It so well detailed an dhas such amazing effects that lower end machines like mine cant handle it.

I just played it and it's really good.
It's an original idea and very well worked out. From now on i'll think of Tokara in a different way
If this is really your first map you have done an excellent job. Lots of detail and the overall impression gives a kindof mysterious feeling. I loved it, hope to see this online as much as possible.

Great Map, though I may have to go looking for a fight. I will stick it on the server and see how it plays with the clan.

Thanks for the kind words and I'm sorry about it not really running well on the lower end machines. I tried to optimize as best I knew how... Maybe it'll be better next time.

Thanks again and I'm glad ya'll are enjoying it!

Well, it wasn’t as enjoyable as I thought it would be… First of all, there are too many obstacles for proper z-axis engagement: misty environment, trees, distance...
Flickering textures are quite common throughout the map. Lighting also needs additional work as there are severe lighting problems.
Collision also needs tweaking; I’ve been stuck a number of times on different places, mostly in the tree village.
Designwise, it’s obvious those caves are actually cubes. Also, terrain looks very unnatural.

But still, great work for a first map.

Wow! Amazing work really. Again, I state my wish for a developer to create a good single-player RPG with the UT2004 engine. This map shows very well how good it would look!!

Smile Fun map. (Old thread here.)

This map has some good landscape, atmosphere, details, and gameplay; apparently this is for the underground style, unlike the default UT2004 map "Tokara Forest". The ambient sounds and lighting are favorable and very well. Some paths and jump pads are in good taste. Very intense z-axis and the bots are quite good, primarily I won't criticize some textures and undesirable stuffs (agreed with the other posts for more than 7 years, maybe), so this should be going then.

Deluxe version for this map is also good.
