    Post DM-TDB-CartwrightHall

    Name: DM-TDB-CartwrightHall

    Version: 1.0 FINAL

    Compatibility: UT2004

Description: Bradford's stunning art gallery was opened in 1904 with an important collection of Victorian and Edwardian works following its donation to the city by Samuel Cunliffe Lister. The hall, surrounded by a first rate park offers something for everyone. Exciting temporary exhibitions plus permanent art collections, including 20th Century British Artists are on display.

The UT2003 version of this map was my submission to PC Format Magazine's "Design a UT2003 level and win a PC" contest. (PC Format Issue 154 - November 2003)

UPDATE: My map won 1st place in the aforementioned contest and I received a new computer as the grand prize. In addition, I was invited to the UK to visit Cartwright Hall in person. I will take the trip later this year (2004). During my visit I will take reference photos and measurements for an updated version of this map! Visit my website (www.funrealtournament.com) for more information as it becomes available.

Comments: Just converting my UT2003 version to UT2004. Here are some changes from the 2003 version to the 2004 version:
    1. Better smoothing on my grand piano mesh.
    2. Scaled down the twig texture on the terrain.
    3. Fixed conversion problem where health bases were poking through custom bases.
    4. Fixed conversion problem where amp and udamage bases were poking through custom bases.
    6. Fixed conversion/collision issue with player start in one of the statue display boxes.
    7. Added Grenade Launcher and ammo in the vestibule for spammy goodness.
    8. Fixed conversion problem with ammo pickups being embedded in floor.
    9. Fixed conversion issue with double quotes in LevelSummary.
    10. Added updated information regarding the results of the PC Format Magazine's 'Design a UT2003 level and win a PC' contest. (PC Format Issue 154 - November 2003) and also regarding my future trip out to the UK for better reference for an update to this map.
    11. Used a better photo of the outside of Cartwright Hall for the menu screenie. Also seperated the colage of 4 screenshots I originally used for use inside within the material sequence.
    12. Fixed a problem with a seam in the wooden floor up in the open Central Area where the Lightning Gun is.
    13. Replaced the Lighting Gun in Gallery 5 downstairs with the Classic Sniper Rifle since there is already a Lightning Gun in the Central Area upstairs. Added Classic Sniper ammo around.
    14. Added clasical music track by G.F. Handel (1685-1759).
    15. Fixed conversion issue with the piano and toilet sound triggers.
    16. Raised the volume of the toilet sound.
    17. Fixed shader / dissapearing texture issue on the dom screens in the display case in Gallery 6.
    18. Other stuff I can't remember...

    Screenshots:
The first screenshot is an actual photo of Cartwright Hall. Not the map. I wish. LOL.

I never liked to play this map, just to walk around in it. It's like an Angelheart map.

It's SO HARD to play in it, you hate to shoot because it's so beautiful LOL

I had trouble with the 2k3 version bogging my machine, but this version is very playable, even online.

Such a beautiful map, and I LOVE the Teddie gallery! You can rack up a lot of frags while people are stopped to admire the artwork

Nice Job Teddie, you outdid yourself!

I do not remember if I ever posted on this one when it came out first... but now I am and this map is really great looking. One things I do not think I mentioned before about Teddie is that I did not take Teddie very serious as a map designer when I first saw him since he did so many remakes blah blah etc... but when I saw this it totally changed my mind and I said to myself that this Teddie guy has talent just needs to keep at it and he will get some cool things out. Now of course you see he got the award for first place.

Keep it going Teddie! One of the most dedicated and fast learning level designers I have seen as of yet.

    This is great!

I especially like the room (room 8?) with walls dedicated to your maps. I just kept trying to read the signs next to all the paintings :haha:

Movement can be cramped at certain places, but I like it that way.
It's on my server now, let's hope it gets played a lot.

Aye, but it was your arse that was kicked

I did find a BSP hole though. It's just in front of the right stair to the basement (viewed from the entrance).
Don't worry too much about it though as it's a very small one and extremely hard to fall into.
Also you don't fall under the map but in a little space under the stairs. You can get out of it with a shield jump

As you can see it's under the stairs to the basement:

That's the hole viewed from beneath:

Once again my a rep from my gen comes and completely brings down the house!!! There is nothing I can say that hasn't already been said. Thanks yet again (this is getting monotonous ) !

One of these days you'll have to let me get in on an alpha to final release testing cycle for one of your Uber maps ... it would help boost my rep as a good map tester !

I think his wife and kids help him on the alpha testing, cuz me and flak get the first beta of his maps and theres only like one bug in it. none of the maps i've tested for teddie have ever had a beta 2 for them, but hey thats how great Teddie's work is.

This was one of the best user-made maps for UT2k3, no doubt the UT2k4 version is a must-have.
Well, just like your other maps, in fact (except muthagigger, which i didn't like, but i hate ddom...)

I downloaded the map just to have a look around, and then I was going to delete it as I don't play DM.

But then I decided to try it with Instagib Invasion, and I ended up being hooked for nearly an hour. Shooting Gasbags up in the gallery ceilings and blasting Skaarj as they jumped down at me from the balconies - probably not what the map was intended for but still great fun. I'm definitely keeping this map now

    Cool State of the art!

I like this museum map (probably came from the year 2004 just as I encountered the magazine scans of the original author and his great map story tho, originally posted by him). There are some hundreds of unique paintings in the upper area and there are plenty of awesome UT2003/UT2004 arts in the lower area that comes in a box. Seems very adequate of pure awesomeness. Since this map is small scaling (part fit for humans only): Like the lighting, other textures, the Grenade Launcher placement is a little rush for fragging enjoyment (lol), one jump pad and the two portals. Great gameplay and the bots are decent for at least 6 players. Take note that this map is not perfectly for Invasion gametype and Invasion-related mutators with either medium-sized or bigger-sized monsters because the scale of this map, just don't hurt the museum for your consideration, instead.
