Ok folks, I'm sure you've all experienced this in the game, time to let Epic know if you like it or hate it.

I like it. Kinda biased options though.
I agree with Turbidity on this one. I could care less, but I think the poll responses are biased...
Glad to see this on the forums where it belongs, the UT2004 admin mailing list was turning into a major headache cause this came up.
Sorry if the options are biased, but that's going to be the two main camps of people's opinion, either one way or the other. I mean face it, if you like the feature then you like making people stick in place, simple as that!
I like it when I'm using it.
I mostly hate it when offline bots rape me with it (damn them to hell) but other than that it's not so bad I guess.
I love to whore the link's lockdown, a lot of people can vouch for that.
I say keep it.
I dread to think what would happen if the link got patched to 'lock on' to enemies like it does teammatesIt turns into the ultimate weapon then
hehe.... kOriginally posted by MidnightQ3

I wouldn't mind getting rid of the lockdown, IF the link was made more powerful... In its current state, I think it needs the lockdown to remain balanced.
To leave the link the way it is, AND pull the lockdown would be completely chopping its nuts off IMHO.

I think the only time this has been an issue for me is playing offline with bots. They use that link lockdown crap as a main strategy, and it destroys me. I've actually never seen it happen online.
n00b q ... what's link lockdown??
Almost same here. I have seen bots use it online as well, but as long as bots aren't using it I don't have any problems w/ it locking down. I don't play bots often enough to dislike the weapon for it though.Originally posted by Gumbypants

This was discussed in the Beta Emails and it is DESIGNED that way and is not a bug.Originally posted by MidnightQ3

when you use alt fire on the link gun - if you are hitting a person at that time they cannot dodge. i think.Originally posted by zoro

just like most UT'99 weapons that were cool to whore with, so the linkgun is prolly the next gun in 2k4 that gets nerfed[/sarcasm]
It rocks.
I hate it. - like - no, it's not enough to get blinded by someone shoting at you with the secondary link fire, no, you also get locked by it... It makes the link gun even more powerful than it is already. But maybe that's just me.
NEVER noticed that so i vote to ''i dont care''![]()

You know an alt-flak in their face tends to stop the lockdown pretty damned fast.![]()
Hate it, with a passion.
The alt fire shaves off life uber fast.
My gripe stems from the fact that I feel the link and mini should be for finishing off people, but both of them now are strong enough to be used as a main weapon.
But if you remove the lock down, the question comes up does the link remain useful, or does it become obsolete.
I hate it. But I wouldn't say it's a bug.

well, and if got no flak handy?![]()
Like it or hate it; Lock-down is not a bug.
Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
A rocket, shock, ect. Basically anything that has a blowback when it hits them. Mini-Gun will not shake the link but does kill them.Originally posted by soma-pu

I think all the weapons should be used as main weapons.
Anyways, the best way to get out of a alt-link attack is to keep moving away from the opponent as that fire mode doesn't have a long range (although when linking to an ally it seems to have longer range)
you mean pulse GUN?![]()
Link secondary would be utterly worthless without the lockdown. It's the only reason to use it.
I don't really like it.
I think the shock primary has a lock down of sorts. When someone gets nailed by it they get pushed straight back and it doesn't seem like you can dodge out of it. Then, if the attacker has a steady hand, they can just keep tagging you until your dead.
Probably a similar type feature for the RL splash damage. It forces you back and can pin you against the wall making it easier for the attacker to follow up.
Keep!

I didn't say I objected to the damage dealt, I do object to the lock down.Originally posted by Iceboy2003

It's a small feature that can be really anoying in some situations, You don't always have the room/or health to back away, as the oponent can just close with you (hint you both move at the same speed, but you are locked he is free) making that option totaly useless.
At such close rangers your only options are flak and rox, but even those don't always save your arse.
Removing the lock down wouldn't reduce damage, It would give you a chance to get away, and it would require more skill on the attackers part.
It feels that the weapons were balanced in an atempt to make them even over all the game types.
However ONS, DM/TDM, CTF all are very different. You probably won't have as much of an issue with link gun wielding cheese masters in ONS (you have vehics) or CTF (you have trans). I think midnight is mainly implicating "TDM" because that's what he plays.
errrm, first of all, i believe i've had a thread about this alreadyOriginally posted by Tropic

--> here :P
because i've already seen a few replies like Tropic's, before you post, please think first(!) and consider if you also like being 'whored' by the link :P
as for my opinion:
i dont like it (i actually hate it tbh) and i think it makes the kills too easy
but as it fits into epic's ideal of "every-noob-can-kill-without-any-effort", i fear that this thread wont receive much attention anyways...
another argument for pro-lockdown i often heard was that you can still escape it with the shieldgun
- i myself dont think its possible to do so every time, and something i noticed is that two(or more) people linked up make it IMPOSSIBLE :x
How right you are Saito. Seems that there are so few people on here with any common sense.Originally posted by Saito

hmm, how come everyone in my thread was a bunch of noobs who want lockdown to stay and in yours it was mostly people with a brain?Originally posted by thekaLi

must have been the sexeh arrows in the thread-name ^^
( "--> lockdown <-- yes or no?" )
or the people who dont want it removed, have just given up hope
like i said....

considering it's the only weapon that has it, i say keep it, makes it more unique.
Plus it's a limited range hitscan weapon.
yea venomzero has a point
didnt really notice it tho... been playing with bots, and they have this habit of 'sweeping' the link beam side to side so it hits me in waves or something, and when i do get killed by bots i find myself flying from my last dodge jump , with the stiff green shadowy effect going through midair
What is lockdown? :bulb:
I think the lockdown isn't really much of a problem - it gives the link a purpose in a stand up fight. Otherwise it would only be usable for covering yourself while running away and spamming. BTW I do play TDM for a clan, in case that actually makes a difference in the argument.
Well for one thing, the link secondary is what you use when the guy is down to 40 health or less and you just need to finish him off. Same goes for mini, or at least it should. Not every gun in the game is supposed to be an even match for every other gun, nor are they supposed to be used for the same purpose. Like goo is good for 1 shot kills if you know they are stacked, but not much else. You wouldn't use fully charged up goo when they have 5 health left would you? No. So why does link secondary have to be strong enough to go head to head with any other gun in the game, by way of locking ppl in place?
The real problem with link lockdown is that it's 90% ping dependent. A guy with a 20 ping will have a HUGE advantage over a guy with 80 ping. In fact with 80 ping the detection of the hits is SO BAD that it is almost like no lockdown at all. So basically the way the gun is right now it's only useful if you have a low ping and can lock ppl down. If you've ever played a godlike bot and had them link on you you know what it's like. It's about 80% the same effect with 20 ping players who know how to aim.
