Exclamation This a good video card deal?

"ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB AGP VGA DVI-I TV Out" for 409 Canuck bucks, that's about 300 American.

Is this a strong card with a good price? Will there be any big leaps from my Geforce 4 TI 4200 128mb?

    My specs are,
    1.24GHz
    1 gig o' ram
I'm not sure what motherboard I have but it says "nVIDIA nForce 2 Ultra 400" on the box.

    Thanks for reading

Just bought one. This is the average price here in the US, and of course this is from a very reliable retailer.

How come you've got an upto date mobo "nforce2 ultra 400".. and yet only a 1.2 ghz cpu? or is that it's real world rating? Is it a 1800 or something? Anyhow really I would recommend getting a new cpu and a new gfx card. Get yourself a 2500+ - its very overclockable and is basically the same as a 3200+ just cranked down. As for the Radeon.. yea its a nice card - but check on the prices of the X800 or the nVidias 6800.. They're what your gonna want for future games such as HL2 and Doom3

If your system is being displayed as a 1.24ghz cpu (from System in the Control panel) - Then it is possible that you've just got the mobo FSB x Multiplier set up wrongly - or you've got too slow ram to get full speed out of your processor. I dont know really, but you should be seeing around 2ghz not 1.24ghz for a 2800+

it IS a 2800+ ; you have the fsb set to 100Mhz instead of the correct 166Mhz

I hate to rain on your parade but Im not sure if you have even the minimum cpu speed to run either game. It is either 1.2 ghz or 1.5 ghz sorry. Your certainly won't be able to play Doom 3 since it takes a minimum 1.5 ghz processor to run. You need a new processor. The sugested processor speed to run the games and UT 2K4 well would be 2.4 ghz or more. I have a 2.4 GHZ and I can get good fps at max details and at 1280 x 1024 resolution in UT 2K4.

P.S: Even with a computer like mine don't go crazy and put on AA and AF they tend to kill fps.
