    Post DM-GlacialSanctuary [cell shading's back, baby!]

    Name: Glacial Sanctuary

    Version: The only version

    Compatibility: UT2004

    Description:
    The tournament's arenas span countless dangerous, volatile, and even gruesome environments. However, one arena stands out above them all. One arena has proven to be so horrible, so horrific, that even veterans have been driven crazy by it in a single match.

    This arena is known as the Glacial Sanctuary.
    And it, is cell shaded.

    Comments:
    I've had a lot of people ask me if I'd be doing any cell shading maps since my last one, and I've never really intended to do anything quite on the same scale as my last one. However, I just couldn't bare to sit on those fancy shaders I figured out how to use (thanks to OrangeCatNinja).
    So here comes this level, not the greatest thing I've ever done, but something to release just for kicks. I should have detailed it a lot more but I'm lazy so shut up and enjoy. Gameplay over graphics, right? Right?
    Really, this level works pretty well for most all gameplay setups. Low grav, instagib, tdm, invasion, of course vanilla style, and lots of mods. It's very flexible (in a non-sexual way).

    WOW! Now THIS is something original, finally! It's amazing how you've managed to emulate cel-shading so expertly in a game that looks so realistic. This is absolutely amazing. Very, very good work.

    EDIT The Second: Played it, GREAT techniques on the ice and stuff. The abstract sculpture was interesting.

    hey acc neat, although gameplay could have been better on the map but eh it was cool just the same. I'm thinking maybe I'd like to do a cell shaded map next. I didnt really like where the dd was placed tho, too clumsy and weird to get at.

    Hey that map's quite cool.
    Not perfect, but good looking and really fun.
    I had no problem with the DD, and was never blocked by that abstract thing
    Lightning could have been better, skybox could have covered a larger part of the walls, and the lowest corridor need some details...

    lmao Well done Love that sky and the jump paths

    I could think of some changes how I think you could make the map better to play, but I'll give them if u want them (since this is a final). There's also a little to much blue in the map It gets irri after a while.

    Good map, could use some changes imo.

    I :heart: acc's maps.

    Great work. Nice gameplay, though a few of the bumps can get annoying here and there. Good powerup placement. Excellent looks.

    Now just fix up the AI in Clockwork, and we'll have 3 quality cel maps from you! (Yep, I converted Twisted Jungle for my own personal use).

    Good Map. Good Maps in General ACC. There are a couple of bugs- they don't really effect the gameplay-so there is no point in listing them (there's only 3-don't worry)

    Had to resort to a lot of fancy 2-pass textures for the ice shaders, hurts performance but it's worth it.

    CTFX1 >> DD placement is intentional. I like having some risk involved with getting the big powerups. Originally I even had it so the middle floating ball would crush you if you timed it wrong, but then the DD wouldn't spawn Bleh.

    Zentak >> Fair comments. All things I intended to do originally but decided otherwise due to laziness

    GinZzA >> I don't mind if you say it, but yeah, I'm not planning to revise this one.

    I liked GlacialSanctuary so much I ran a search on you... I tried out the Clockworks. It was cool, but too hard to navigate.

    The navigating is the fun part. Some parts get cramped, but the real issue is the bots not knowing their a$$es from a hole in the ground. Looks awesome though, as usual.

    Just played it, very nice, much beter than the last two IMO. the last two had too much going on and it made it hard to navigate, thus it slowed down game play. Good job :up:

    Then I won't post them soz, always takes me a lot of time to give good critics and I don't do it when it's kinda useless.

    It's a pretty good map anyways, so it's not needed that badly.

    The music is nice. Reminds me of an.....other....time in my life. I know nothing of texturing or cel shading at the moment. Could you pass on those files you were talking about?

    AS-Cirban kicks ass, AS-Cruiser kicks ass as well, can't wait to see it come out of beta, then see the rest of the series as well.

    Glacial Sanctuary is totally different then both of those, but I still love it! acc, your mapping skills are awesome! Keep up the good work.

    Now, I am hoping the UT2003 cell-shaded homer will eventually get some team skins and have vehicle animations so he can proplerly be used in ut2004. (not that he needs vehicle animations for this map, I know)

    Cell-Shading is something that often get's overlooked. acc, have you released the 4 other cell-shaded maps? or at least the other decent one?

    EDIT: just checked your unreal playground profile/map listing, found a couple of the others, still it's not 5.

    Quirken >> Clockworks is pretty nutty, in both a good and bad way. More bad than good, really...
    "Its just fun" is the perfect response I want for Glacial. Maybe not spectacular, life-altering, etc. Just fun.

    SapphireShades >> Bots are really meant for horizontal play Perhaps if I gave it another shot, I could get them to work a little better, but I don't think it's worth it.

It comes with the game, it just wasn't used in any levels that I know of :bulb: Unfortunately, I don't have the original files, I sorta learned how to do it (I had to modify them anyways) and can do it off memory now. You can, however, open up the map in UED and look through the myLevel texture package.

    bazmoe >> Lots of people have thought of it, I think most just didn't have the resources to do it, or preferred to do normal levels. I know a bunch of other cartoon styles have been done, though.

    apexad >> Well there's 3 on my UP listing. The other two were CTF-Cell (first map ever; small, no bot pathing) and DM-CelledFacility (messed up scaling, console remake). You can probably find both on www.ut2004hq.com

    I can't wait to use the non-existant superweapon online and taunt all the people who don't know how to get it because you can't get it because it's not there.

    I'll have to stop by your server sometime and see if I can catch a game

    Same with yours, herryoyo (if I knew what yours was?). Oh yeah, and a Deunan model would rock I don't even know anything about Appleseed, I just know she's cool.

    I did release a cell shaded skin for the Gumby model, and I think the Optimus Prime model also has a cell shaded skin.
