Red face [New version] Heroes of Exion v1.10a: Onslaught type of game with destroyable maps

    Name: Heroes of Exion
    Version: v1.10a [Final]
    Compatibility: UT2004 (UT2004 3204 patch required.)

    Homepage: www.niara.hu/exion.html
    Download: www.niara.hu/exion.html
    Credits: GeorgeV (GeorgeVarga@msn.com)

Description: The Heroes of Exion: Onslaught type of game with Counter-Strike like playing experience, on maps which can be destroyed either with guns or vehicles.

    Novelties at the v1.10a version:

    - EXN-TDB Aztec map, similar to the de-aztec map of the Counter Strike (Original Half-Life/CS mapper Chris 'Narby' Auty, UT2004 Remake Mapper: Teddie `teddabod` Tapawan, Exion version: GeorgeV)
    - EXN-ArcticStronghold destroyable map
    - Reduced quantity of ammo in the case of some of the weapons
    - Weaponlockers on the map
    - Modified bot AI

The game now consists of three maps, two of them are estroyable, the third one is the UT2004 version of the popular de-aztec map of the Counter Strike game.

The way of the fired bullets and missiles can be seen and heard (3D sound) as they are flying in the air. This way the position of the enemy can be identified more easily in the game and the smoke after firing, which was originally used in the case of the Classic Sniper Rifle, can be avoided.

    Screenshots:

The walls in the game can be destroyed by vehicles, as well:

    HEROES OF EXION

Differences between the Heroes of Exion and the Onslaught game type:

    - Similarly to the Onslaught, this game also has game rounds, but the players have only one life in the given round. It is like the solution applied in the Counter-Strike game.

    - In the game, only the guns with bullets, rocket launchers, trench mortars and target painters can be used.

    - Since the way of the fired bullets and missiles shot by the Assault Rifle (with silencer and telescope), the Assault Rifle Plus (with telescope), the Classic Sniper Rifle and other machine guns and automatic guns can be seen and heard (3D sound) as they are flying in the air. This way the position of the enemy can be identified more easily in the game.

    - The sounds of the game have been revised in order to try to experience the situation of the battlefield atmosphere.

    - The guns move in the players hand under the effect of the strenght of the shots (similarly to the Counter-Strike), so it is practical to fire at the enemy in short series.

    - The vehicles are equipped with machine guns and automatic guns (Manta, Raptor, Scorpion).

    - The Hellbender is equipped with an automatic gun, which can be handled by the driver of the vehicle.

    - All the free and working vehicles can be used in the game, independently of the fact that it is in possession of the enemy or our team.

    - In the maps, there are also destroyable buildings and movable barrels and boxes which can be exploded. The moveable barrels and boxes can be pushed by the player, so he can build an entrenchment from these objects, too. Because of the destroyable walls, you have a chance to manoeuvre during the game.

    - The destroyable walls and buildings can be demolished by the vehicles, as well. For example, with the Goliath tank, the player can go through the destroyable wall. The walls can also be demolished by the other vehicles, but, for instance, with the Manta, it is necessary to crash the wall with a high speed in order to destroy it.

    - The movements of the different mobile things (barrels, boxes, trees, hanging bridges) in the map is controlled by the Karma physics engine.

    - The output of the game (framerate value) is influenced by the setting of it (Settings/Display), but the Heroes of Exion continuously controls its own effects (explosions, smoke, debris moved by the Karma physics engine…) according to the actual framerate value. Under the average 30 fps value, the game is able to represent only the minimum effects. Above this, the number, the complexity and the level of the physical modelling of the visual effects, or the number of the debris moved by the Karma physics engine (for example when a wall explodes) grow a lot.

    Comments:

If at the beginning of the game rounds, the crosshair doesn’t appear, you should switch on and off the telescope with the Alt-Fire function of a telescoped weapon.

If you cannot register to an online game with the original game types (for example Onslaught), because you get the ’Connection Failed’ message, you must delete all the parts that contain the ’Exion’ note from the UT2004/SYSTEM/UT.INI file. Then running again the Heroes of Exion, the deleted notes appear again, but now you can also register with other original game types to an online game. This problem was noticed not two often in the case of the patch version of the UT2004 v3204, and it must be the fault of the patch 3204. This problem might occur in other Mods, as well (not only in the Heroes of Exion).

    Default nice

the patch is nice except for a few things
you said aztec would have crates
there are maybe 3 crates and 3 drums right next to each other,
    make those marble blocks moveable!!!
that is what i thought you were going to do.

also, sniper rifle is WAY too powerful. i like the one shot deal, but make the reload alot longer so that you cant annhilate an entire team while their miniguns arent doing much at all
i mean alot longer reload too, like 10 seconds

otherwise its alot of fun, another cool idea, would be to allow the game creator to choose what weapons are allowed in game

    GeorgeV,

Thanks for posting my credits for the Aztec Remake map and congrats on releasing your mod.

You should also post Narby as the original Counter-Strike author.

Do me a favor though -- next time, send me a note to let me know you're going to do something like this with one of my maps. I would have liked to had taken part in the modification of the map to your mod.

I had no idea about this until today.

I think my messages went to junk/spam directory.

In the Heroes of Exion EXN-TDB-Aztec map credit list (in UT2004 map preview window) appear the original CS mapper Chris 'Narby' Auty and Teddie `teddabod` Tapawan too.

    Thanks for the great map.

    Heroes of Exion mirror: http://unreal.hcgamer.hu/dl.php?3407

My other e-mails went to junk/spam directory (?), like e-mail to CaNNoN (UT200X HQ).

    No problem George.

Yeah, I've got some heavy-duty spam filters setup on my mail server.

    Good luck with your mod.

Something wrong in UT2004 v3204 'Karma' physics under online play, therefore I reduced the number of 'Karma' objects in the maps during online play.

For Counter-Strike like playing experience in the Aztec map not destroyable. But you can destroy many stuff in the Exion type Frostbite and ArcticStronghold map.

EPIC must fix the 'Karma' engine for strongly using 'Karma' engine under online play, like in my previous work: Exion 2.25 UT2003 Mod. (DM-Exion UT2003 is MSUC Phase2 6th place finalist in 'Best use of Karma Physics category).

Classic Sniper Rifle similar to Counter-Strike Sniper Rifle: one shot is one enemy down (if you take a hit). But if you take a head shot with Assault Rifle, Assault Rifle Plus or with Minigun, in this case one shot is one enemy down. You can shot down the enemy from vehicle with Classic Sniper Rifle with one head shot.
