Default LAG for no apparent reason! PLZ HELP

Strangest thing has been happening lately and has happened b4 I install a fresh copy of UT2004 after I have formated my computer and when I play it has the weirdest lag this is instant action by the way running at 1280x960 with everthing on high!

I have a Radeon 9800 pro and 512mb Ram 2.1ghz Amd Athlon XP and therefore it shouldnt lag because I have played it before on my comp without any lag what so ever,

Before i formated my computer I had the same problem yet I fixed it somehow cant remember though, and this time around its happening again first off i killed all the background running tasks on my computer to see if it was any of them but nope! So then I went to msconfig killed the services and it worked without lag so I have in a way isolated the problem yet wait it gets better I have no sound because one of the services initializes the sound drivers. So I went through the services enabling the ones that sounded important to the drivers and yes I found the sound one!!! But I dont know which one its jsut in a pile of other services I enabled, damnit I dont wanna have to go through each service to find it! So is it a virus or somthing corrupt in the service area? By the way its XP pro I am talking about! So plz help is there a good program I can get to kill unesecary services? I miss my UT2004 without the constant weird arse lag.

Oh and if it helps I can look around smoothly with the mosue when not moving yet if i use the keys to move while looking aorund, oh ow it lags and its not canstant lag it does it in chunks and run nice in the middle of those chunks!

would you describe it as "mouse-lag" ??

Yeah, a lot of people have this problem; you'll just have to wait for a future patch to see if it gets fixed.

I don't think changing your running processes will help.

try going into your UT2004 settings, and unchecking "system audio driver" or setting the sound mode to "3d only"

Nice to know I am not the only one and yes its like mouse lag!

Ill get the patch maybe that will help!

But I Swear when I disable all my services it does stop the lag! Probably somthing to do with the sound driver!

funnily enuff i have the sme problem...

it was fine for ages after my reinstall... (reinstalled after new gfx card) then just this morning i got it. was playing single player and suddenly after about 10-15 mins of play it started "mouse lagging" running along at 40-60 fps then for a split second drop below 10 then fine then back to below 10...

    gah!

i'll see if deleteing my cache does anything... cant hurt

I am in the process of going through the services in xp finding the conflicting one! Try going to run 'msconfig' disable all services restart and see if ut2004 lags tell me if it does or not without the services so I am not being a fool imagining things. Then because without services everthing goes away just renenaable them, i should have found the conflicitng one in a few hours! And ill post it here!

I am really happy to know I am not the only one to have this **** happen! Stupid arse Epic cant even fix simple proplems what they do for testing, did they use jsut one type of comp?! Wtf!

Whats the code red virus it showed up on my computer a few days ago and my virus scanner didnt even mention it in its logs!

    Maybe its messing with me!

    I dont know!

EDIT: Strange that u say the demo worked fine as well because the demo worked for me to!

Sry for the double post thought it would get pplz attention, sry again!

Anywayz by disabling the services it works fine yet no sound so I couldnt actually find a good combination it seems that whenever u add sound it screws up so I actually got the new patch and so far I havent noticed any lag, so just get that and see how u go! Best of luck to u all!

If it starts laggin again however I am screwed I have no idea what to do!

yep after patch i still have same problem.
funny thing is, i installed it on my LAN and my 'least' capable machine runs the game better. (but thats my brothers PC )
only differnce is that my PC has Radeon 9800 pro. Maybe an ATI bug?

I solved this problem by defragging and deleting unecessary/Old games and files. After a defragg and a cleaning i have ca 4 gb free on the drive where i have installed UT2004. Now the lag is totaly gone!
I had about 1 gb free when i experienced the "laggyness"

well, funny enough i did have under 1 Gig, but now i have 6gig and defragged, still have same problem.
also single player works a charm its just when im hosting or joining a LAN game. even if no-other computers have joined it, i still get the dodgy lag.

Well I found that windows audio is the service that screws around with u in ut! So I disabled it and it works fine yet when I enable it it has the mouse lag! Strange?

Oh and patch didnt work at all!
