Is it just me or someone at Epic knows a bit of chemistry? This came to my mind after a while of browsing throught the game contents and finding various stuff somehow related to chemistry. Here's a quick list of stuff I found. It's really nothing to look for.

    Maps:
    DM-ASBESTOS
    DM-SULPHUR
    CTF-CHROME

COM-CORE (check this map description and since I AM the professional the description is talking about I can say that the first sentence of it is nonsence)

    Characters:
    Corrosion
    Cobalt

What do you think? Can it be?!?!?!?

Can it be that someone at Epic knows the name of some chemicals?
    I guess so.

Wow, UT2004 has a few totally generic everyday chemistry terms in it. Shocking.

Most of it really isn't shocking, but there aren't many people that I know who are aware of what the mineral asbestos is - let alone the consequences of what prolonged exposure to it are. Still, that's only mildly odd.

    I'd personally like DM-Trimethylxanthine. ;P

Its just called asbestos because asbestos is 1337, and mainly found in old industrial factory warehouse things, whatever DM-asbestos is supposed to represent.

I disagree, but only Epic knows the truth. ;P

Asbestos is a mineral fiber that has been used commonly in a variety of building construction materials for insulation and as a fire-retardant. EPA and CPSC have banned several asbestos products. Manufacturers have also voluntarily limited uses of asbestos. Today, asbestos is most commonly found in older homes, in pipe and furnace insulation materials, asbestos shingles, millboard, textured paints and other coating materials, and floor tiles.

gues i'm teh ill 1337, we had asbestos pipes in our house when we moved in, my dad had to pull it all out, amazingly for him, no lung cancer.

Asbestos is mostly a problem when airborne, long exposure, and susceptible(sp). My dad, and several brother have worked in the construction/insulation for many years and none ever developed any related problems. Like everything else, some things bother some people in some situations, sometimes.

I can't wait for it either. Are you already working on it? And remember to place power nodes in the same position as where carbon atoms are located in the molecule :P

No no no silly, they're going straight to CTF- April, which will be a big flowery field in springtime, accompanied by Barry White love songs, and you cant run, only skip to the enemy flag to huggle the enemy team.

How about ONS-1,3,7-trimethylxanthene? That seems much more relevant to the everyday life of the average gamer. But apparently the MSDS says you should use goggles and a lab coat when handling it...

Well, if you call on your proffesion to convince people on this one, i doubt your proffesionality.
Even a simpleton knows that that first sentence is utter bull****.
And splitting an atom isn't chemistry, its physics. :haha:

Cliffy, your only D? That can mean a couple of things:
    A. Everything else was lower.
    B. You studied alot.
    C. You were way beneath your level.

    Which one is it?

I like S-[2-[bis(1-methylethyl)amino]ethyl]- O-ethyl ester O-ethyl-S-(2-diisopropylaminoethyl) methylphosphonothioate more. (Ever wondered what gas they talked about in the movie The Rock?)

I remember reading something somewhere that the guys who are working on maps put together information (a "bible" was the term used, I believe) about whatever theme they are working on (eg Egyption mythology) so as to have everyone on the same page.

I showed some Egyption maps to a friend who is very knowledgible about that mythology (but doesn't play fps) and she was impressed with the accuracy and detail of the textures.

So yeah - Epic does their homework.

they didnt want to bother thinking of original names for things... sorta like when they came up with the title UT2k4. Creative thinking costs money and they just care about stealing it from u with mods that dub as games
