    Default My fears about Gears

    Hey that rhymes

My feelings are somewhat bitter sweet about what this game will become over Xbox Live, I mean I want Epic to make money on this game, but I don't want it to get so mainstream and turn into a Halo type experience (over live) When I play games like GRAW, I always get cool people who aren't homophobic 12 year olds.

Basically what I am saying, is that I don't want Gears of War to become mainstream, simply due to the fact it will ruin the hardcore gamers xbox live experience.

You make a very intersesting point. I think it should become mainstream, but i wish XBL would have a way to filter through peoples ages. (Like a parents can set their xbox so they can only play live against other kids) I believe this would keep the "Halo 2 kids" from taking away from GOW

That is a very good idea, maybe MS will include it in the next major dashboard update

I think GoW is going to be a little harder for younger kids to get a hold of just because of what it is about. Halo 2 was rated M but the box it was in or the storyline wasnt really that bad. In the case of GoW, if a parent goes to buy the game, there going to see the cover which has Marcus on the cover with his Chainsaw. If anything, microsoft should find a way to filter out the annoying kids that play.

TDU has a system of seperating players with low rep away from players with high rep. So if some is a "homophobic 12 year old" who calls everyone "noobs" they must have low rep.
So if TDU (atari) can do it, Epic must be able to

this is the reason i support the laws to prohibit minors from buying M rated games. i don't understand why the ESRB is upset about bans and laws against minors being able to buy these games, i think if they aren't allowed to buy them, there'd in turn be less of them ruining our online matches. if retailers can card for R rated movies and CD's with parental advisories, they should have the same right for M rated games, and if they were checking ID's on those games, we wouldnt' have to deal with as many of these little *****es.

I agree. I first started playing on xbox live when i was about 12-13, I never screamed, abused or threatened anyone. Although there is a higher chance of kids being very immature, but I've also come across a lot 20+ yr olds that act like total wankers online.
Wait there's a chainsaw AND you can curbstomp people!

Im 12..........but if you ask any of my friends I dont start screaming into the mic randomly for no reason.

And I do want this game to become mainstream because then there'll be more ppl to play against. And it wont be often that you'll hear someone screaming or playing loud music into their mic.

I don't mind the people who scream, because i just leave feedback and mute them. There is a feedback option for a reason.
The age rating wont stop kids playing the game, think how many kids play GTA.
This is someone wo i really dont want to play against on XBL.

Well, realistically, it all boils down to good or bad parenting doesn’t it? I believe Gears is probably going to get an 18 rating over here in the United Kingdom, 17+ at the least. And in the end, if a parent is going to sit there and let their kid who is, say, thirteen, fourteen, play the game, then it doesn’t reflect in the best way upon themselves.

Now, that’s not to say all parents are bad and all kids that age aren’t mature enough to handle the game. Not at all. But, no matter how mainstream Gears becomes, I don’t think it will become the next Halo to be honest. Epic haven’t really been a massive console developer in the past and as such, I feel that they won’t be recognised as much in the console market, except by those people who play their PC games.

I personally love Unreal, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how Gears evolves as a multiplayer game on Live.

I hope it becomes as half as popular as Halo 2. I'm still waiting for a game with multiplayer to be as popular and good as Halo 2. So far nothing since Halo 2, has made me stay there and play for as long as Halo did.

Since Gears isn't run and gun and requires tactical thinking similar to GRAW, "Halo boys" (my teams term for run and gunners) will play the game around and a little after release, realize the difference of the experience, and go back to Halo. The same thing happened with GRAW.

first of all, im sure gears will be asuccessful game with all kinds of people playing it. second its pretty darn selfish for any of you people to hope the game isnt as mainstream, as say halo, so only "hardcore" gamers can enjoy the game. come on. the only way people being immature onver xbl can annoy you is if you let them, get over it.

im 13 and am not the kind to scream into my mike and annoy the s**t out of people. although i dont have live yet but i will get it soon. anyway it is really selfish to not let younger people play nit so your match will be better. plus it wont be there will be way less people. only one or two kids iare that annoying.

I'm thinking this is a game for the masses. I think it's going to definitely be widespread because it is a flagship title. WHEN the positive reviews come, so will even more of the mainstream. I want this thing to be HUGE! I bet Epic does too!

i dont think we realy have to worry about anoying little kids as much as you would in halo. In GOW they will most lily play it like they would halo and die over and over again. After that happens they will hopefully quite playing.

I played halo 2 a ton, mostly mid to high levels and what not where people get more "competitive" and I can honestly say that there are idiots on the game but it in NO way affected my fun.

I would MUCH rather the game go mainstream and get tons of people to play then simply sit around with noone to play at all... Remember quake IV? Ya that had a good "community" of mature individuals which basically meant the inability to find games.

If you get easily offended by someone you don't even know/will ever see, then you should probably re think what is going on. Kids talking trash online makes it hilarious to play against in my opinion due to the sheer idiocy of it all. I guess if you are always getting beat by the trash talkers it would get real old, so practice more.

Also, you guys should stop talking about the stereotype of "gears of war is much too tactical and intelligent for those immature kids to play! they will surely leave!" You could have an asshole playing mario party for all it matters... so that has nothing to do with it. It really just comes down to how you handle it. The common response is "I shouldn't have to put up with it though," which you shouldn't, but its so meaningless and doesn't bother me at all. It is kind of enjoyable talking back to them for me.

Today i played Halo 2 and no joke a kid kept repeating "F*** you all my mommy beats me! F*** you all my mommy beats me!" over and over again. I tried muting him but it didnt work. I actually had to turn my tv's sound off not to hear him. Stuff like this gets on my nerves. But to be hounest some of the best Halo players are kids! MY cousin rules at it.

This is why i wish gears will have a feature to split up games by age if you want to

Its gonna have kids of course, but the only game that is really crowded with kids like that is Halo 2. I play my share of GRAW and other games and I find mostly people in the 20-30 age group playing, not very many kids. I find the occasional kid, and even then he doesnt act like a retard at all, joins in and does right strategy and talk good no crap. Its just I believe a small percentage of kids do that, and with mye xperience playing Halo 2 online, I dont see "that" many kids, its just that we think there is so many of them because they are that stupid. Anybody get me?

Well when we all got xbox live in the first place, we chose a zone. (Underground, Recreation, Family, etc.) That's what will keep the kids out.

Does that actually filter? I am in Pro and have seen no filter of zones

Kids shouldn't be allowed to play online games via xbox live. I think Nintendo's wifi system is brilliant because it allows you to play online and not have to deal with the crap that comes with immature people. It's not just kids there are some immature adults too. Sure the password system is tedious but if you really want to play with your friends it's not that big of a hassle.

I was playing halo 2 and there was this little kid who was just talking trash to the team we were playing against and I asked him to stop and he got mad and started using words that I had to google just to find out what they meant.

After the game I just thought about where he would have learned those words, and I'm sure his parents didn't say "Hey, eat your food you little ****"(Insert any four letter word you want there) So I came to the conclusion it must have been the people he usually plays with on xbox live. For every person you have fun playing with on xbl it seems there are at least 5 who are just complete assholes who shouldn't even be allowed to breed, and most of them probably have, several times, all illegitimate.

What's my point? I don't know, I forgot, but it has something to do with the fact that xbox needs to screen it's users, and not just keep kids from playing. Those who can't form coherent sentences without the use of naughty 4 letter words can't play.
