I have an idea for a new vehicle which may be interesting to someone with the software and more importantly, the skills to bring to fruition (I have neither)
My viewpoint was fixated on a link turret the other day, as I waited to join a match in AS-Mothership. An idea occured to me as I got a chance to get a better look at the link turret's design. The turret itself seems to have a cockpit of sorts, almost like a helicopter gunship in design. If one were to remove the base and traverse mechanisms that make it a turret, it would almost resemble a some sort of flying machine.
How about a gunship based on the link turret?
Remove the base and traverse gear portion of the turret.
Then the little wings that point down from the bottom could be moved to the sides somewhere. Afterwards, attach a couple of fans to the ends of the wing thingys, sorta like the manta.
Next place a tube-like engine behind the cockpit assembly (between the twin thingys that have the green tubes coming from them). That would be a decent start.
A different idea is to place a shoulder mounted wing, with a couple of box-like engines at the roots, behind and above the cockpit assembly. I envision the wing mounted directly behind the little fin that currently pokes out of the top of the turret model.
Insofar as function goes:
Movement: Very similar to manta, except it should be quite a bit slower and slightly less maneuverable. I think it should also stall higher than the manta, but not as high as the raptor.
Armor: More than manta, less than Hellbender or Scorpion.
Firepower: Primary fire should be the same as the link turret. Alt fire could be left the same or changed to fire:
a. Missiles ala raptor
b. "Flak burst" style discharge of primary fire projectiles (charge it up like Hellbender's rear gun). I think there's a mod for the link gun which does a similar effect they call "Hatchet fire" or something.
c. Not a weapon, but a "War Emergency Power" type of temporary speed boost to get the link fighter out of harm's way. Hit the boost while pressing a movement key (WASD) to get a surge of speed in that direction or just boost by itself to go upward. Make the boost have to recharge for a few seconds before it can be used again to prevent people warping all over tha place.
Well, whaddya think? Any feedback or comments are welcome. Thanks
