    Default Crashes to desktop

When playing the SP tournament my UT2004 crashes to desktop. No message, no errors, just *poof* no UT2004. I thought I was using some weird keyboard shortcut by accident, but that turned out to be incorrect. Does anyone know what may cause this? Playing the SP tournament isn't really fun if you have a 60% chance of finishing the map.

    System specs:

    Athlon XP 1600+ (1.4 Ghz)
    512 MB RAM
    Geforce FX 5200
Running Mandrake Linux 9.2 w/ KDE

Hey everyone , check out my post here
    http://www.ataricommunity.com/forum...threadid=362059

UT2004 loaded fine for me right after install , but would consistently crash everytime after.

I can now play UT2004 everytime. I hope this helps out everyone.

    Peace.

That's slightly different to DarkHydra's situation, I think where the problem's with crashes during play rather than in starting up as you had in your thread, ||||.

Actually DarkHydra's crashes are similar to what I had last night, see this thread instead! I'd bought a 512MB stick of RAM to replace one of my 256MB sticks, and when I did, the game would crash randomly but when I put my old stick back in, it would play for hours... Seems like cheap RAM is the problem.

Ok cool . I just posted it here to cover the bases . Trying to help out others still having issues running the game.

This is where I got the idea:

Apparently , a similliar virus caused the same issue with UT2003 , as was discovered in the above mentioned post.

    Peace.

Thank you, milo77, but that one crashed 20 seconds into a game, mine crashes randomly. Some times I can play for hours, sometimes I can play 10 minutes, other times it crashes with 7 seconds to go in an Assault match :bulb:

Haven't seen it crash in multiplayer yet, though.

Also, I'd like to know what causes this before I decide to use my non-existant money on RAM

Mine did crash randomly, in the sense you've mentioned, in single player and online - and usually when there's a major explosion in game.

But having exchanged the generic ram I bought on Tuesday for some Corsair (Value Select) ram yesterday, I haven't had a problem.

Just saying that in my case it was ram...

Don't suppose you have a chance to swap ram sticks between a couple of machines to test this out before spending anything?

    No faulty ram.

Heard rumors of a bug with Karma in linux that causes crashes to desktop... Could that be it?

i got something kinda the same thing....

when using the blood angel model pack in ut2k4, there is something wrong with the karma file, so when you get killed by the link gun, you or a bot, the game crashes.

i dont know how to fix it. how do you edit a bots karma file?
