    Default Porting UT Maps

I need help porting UT Maps. What do I change, if anything? Remove all lights, flagbases, etc, keep the brushes and textures only?

    Flame on

which version? 99? the only way you can port 99 maps is to do a total rewrite from scratch might be possible to inport brushes but without the texutures im not sure.

as for Ut2K3 all you need to do is resave them in the Unreal Ed that came with UT2K4 i believe

:-p. if you want to convert UT 99 maps to UT2K4 its going to take many many moons of hard work.

lol your name.....so i can say dumbass without being a jerk because thas your name. :-p

    dumbass :-p

Importing UT99 maps into 2k4 is a piece of cake

Take youUT99 map and in a 2d view rightclick..select all brushes
Then rightclick again and transform permanently
    Then...edit...copy

    Open up your 2k4 editor....paste....build all.....thats it

Yeah...for UT->UT2K3 usually you had to scale up the map 1.25 for it to be about right. I don't know if that is changed for 2K4. This also has the unpleasant side effect of potentially creating BSP holes.

Lights will also work and can be scaled with the scale tool. But don't scale the brightness, the light radius and postitions will be scaled automatically. THe only other downside is some of the light types are different. LeCylinder in 2003 is much different from 99, but you can use LeQuadraticNonIncidence to get the same Cyclinder lighting as in 99.

You have to transform permanently and then build, still in Ued 2. Then you can import it into Ued 3.

Ok, right click and select all brushes, then transform permanently. Then click build all (or just build?). Copy, then paste. That the correct order?

Once you've rebuilt the map in UED2, Export it with the option in the 'file' menu. You can then import it into UED3 no problem.

I do the scaling under 'map scaling' in the 'tools' menu, there are other ways of doing it, but this works okay for me.

    Cool

Well I tried the above advice (in various forms)

I end up with 2 outcomes:

    1) UED3 crashes
or 2) the imported/pasted map is just pure black with a white background, no detail.

What now? Anyone got any better ideas?

You need to make sure you have taken all the zone and level info's out, as well as the weapons as they aren't compatible with UED3.
I personally took everything out except for the lights. Always prefer to do my own pathing anyway.

If you've done this stuff already, then I haven't got the foggiest idea....

I'm having trouble porting Konosus][. After the port and the build editor crashes when I move the mouse. I've tried both importing the .t3d file and copying from UED2 and pasting into UED3. It also happens when I try to move the mouse before the build.

Here is the UT99 version of the map:

*edit* Missed the post about removing the zone info, I'll try that.

Yup, that should do it for you.

Just done a quick test myself and it worked fine.

It looks it too. Never had the pleasure of playing it before, so I'll look forward to seeing a shiny new port of this one

You don't actually have to do that, it should work fine if you only select the lights and brushes.

So just have the lights and brushes selected? No paths, weapons or anything? Have you tried lights, paths, and brushes?? I would reall like to convert some old maps. Thanks.

Paths should also work, I'm just saying that it's not neccessary to manually remove everything before a port, you only have to select what you want to port.

I acutally did it a bit diff. I kept having the crash prob, so I right clicked in ued2 select all brush, then copy, open new map, paste in ued2, transform perm, saved as all files, made ect .ut2. Then opened in ued3 with no prob. Right clicked select all brush. Transform perm, then built. Worked well.
