    3dbuzz Pwns!!!!

I have learnt more in the past two days about UT level design, than I have in the past year browsing the net for tutorials. The 3DBUZZ VTM'S are incredible, amazing, and have answered all of my questions. There's about 60hours of tutorials! The tutorials are deep, and they explain in a way that anyone could understand. I reccomend anyone who is interested in UT level design to get the UT2004 Special Edition. The Bonus Disc with the VTM's have kept me from playing UT2004, they are that dam good! BIG THUMBS UP TO 3DBUZZ, YOU ROCK!

I like how every time they do something they tell you how to do it. Even if they have gone over that two thousand times, they tell you what key to push every time.

When you are still watching the beginning VTMs for mapping do NOT skip ahead to the really fun parts (like karma actors, that was a GREAT VTM) because I did. It makes it harder to do the beginning ones because here you are, still learning static meshes and if you had just been a little more knowledgeable, you could be hanging juggernauts from chains and going ingame and shooting at them as the convulse around.

Also, if you want to fall alseep put on the one about modeling a characters head. I couldn't keep my eyes open.

I got the SE, but as my editing system has the DVD, I had to burn 15 CD's of AVI's to watch on my other system.

It's so much easier to follow along when you can watch on one system and work on another.

The VTM's really are neat, I learned a whole stack of shortcuts and features, and I now have the confidence to give a map design I've had for a long time a shot.

They're not boring when you follow along.

And yes, 3DBuzz does indeed kick ass. *is 3DBuzz.com regular and is bias*

The main reason i got into mapping was becuase of 3D Buzz.... i had downloaded many of the VTM's from their site one day.... and as i was sitting at home durring a weekend ... the cable went out.... no high speed internet so i busted out the VTM's i'd downloaded and were just sitting there... and i watched them... and made my first map.... well... thank you 3D Buzz.... great job!

...... but on a side note.... perhaps you should put a warning label on the VTM's.... "May cause addiction to mapping"

You don't need another system if you have a dual video card . I just watched the first level making intro but found the meat and potatoes quite good. I've been playing with Ued since 1.0 so maybe I'll actually release a map after watching all the videos. I find it hard to FoCUs on getting a level done before fresh idea pops into my head that I want to work.

    Lightbulb

Got me an ATI card with dual monitor outputs. one for video, one for editing.

It rocks!! I wish I had more time to sit in front of the computer and go through all of the tutes.

I already got a few ideas for maps and at least one of them could be real cool if done right. I suspect that even the 3DBuzz VTMs won't be enough to complete the level with all of the ambience I want, but should be able to basically build and texture the level and maybe some more than that.

    For the start with mapping:
(And I'm starting as well... just 4 months or some that i actually started)
Plan you map, know what you wanna do... and learn how to do it... don't make the map worse, only because you don't know how to improve it...
