    Default General protection fault...plz clue me

    UT2003 Build UT2003_Build_[2003-04-07_17.42]

    OS: Windows 2000 5.0 (Build: 2195)
    CPU: AuthenticAMD PentiumPro-class processor @ 1005 MHz with 510MB RAM
    Video: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 (5216)

    General protection fault!

    History: UModel::BuildRenderData <- ULevel::PostLoad <- UObject::ConditionalPostLoad <- (Level NvidiaLogo.myLevel) <- PostLoadObjects <- UObject::EndLoad <- UObject::StaticLoadObject <- (Engine.Level None.MyLevel NvidiaLogo.ut2) <- LoadLevel <- UGameEngine::LoadMap <- LocalMapURL <- UGameEngine::Browse <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine ....My card has latest driver(5.2.1.6). I was able to get around this problem by reinstalling the 2225 patch, but this no longer works. Reinstalling and reconfiguring this badass game is becoming quite the buzzkill....plz, any help is appreciated.

    When does this error occur at the startup or when loading a level? Could be something with the nvidiaLogo or a missing myLevel file of a custom map. Did you alter a map with the editor or turned the nvidia startup Logo off or altered it?

    Angry ...buzzkilled...dead

    Thx for reply Nickless. This happens on startup, on the very first screen-before the NVidia logo appears. I didnt mess w/any maps...and if you mean the games' nvidia startup logo,didnt touch that either. And now, after reinstalling the 3 disks yet again, this error continues ,sapping the last cerebral fluids of my buzz entrails .My situation appears bleak. Plz, I dont like sitcoms. Help me game again

    1) Please download this quickstart.zip (only 5KB) it removes the Nvidia logo from the startup.

    Just follow the instructions....
    Exctract from the readme...

    UT2003 QuickStart

    Simply place QuickStart.ut2 into your UT2003\Maps folder, then goto your UT2003\System folder and open UT2003.ini. Find the line LocalMap=NvidiaLogo.ut2 and rename it to LocalMap=QuickStart.ut2 and then save the file. Viola, every time you start UT2003 now you will be taken straight to the menus. No more annoying "The way its meant to be played" ;-). Enjoy

    2) Please check if the file NvidiaLogo.ut2 is in your maps folder.

    Default Crashing on menus

    Thx for reply.The Quickstart.ut2 got me into the menu screen(thx goes to Nickless too,for the Quickstart file website and info). Unfortunately I still get crashes when accessing the following areas:Server Browser(after d/l'ing info,just before level begins); Settings\Controls; Instant Action; Host M/Player Game; Single Player Qualifying. So....still unable to play (about all I can do is jack up all the detail settings to hear the announcer say "HOLY S**T", which is more than I could do yesterday. WTH is going on with my system? Thx I appreciate everyones help.

    Wow.
    Ok, have you deleted your UT2003.ini from the UT2003\system folder?

    Its starting to look like you have a very screwed up install there.

    Id do this..
    Delete the UT2003.ini file.
    Try and start the game.
    If it works, WHOO HOO!

    If not. Reinstall UT2k3.

    All of those critical errors are screwed up commands or files.

    Smile Thx for trying to help HS.....

    I deleted the .ini and tried to restart to no avail. Reinstalled,added the quickstart and its just not happening for me. Really appreciate your help bro, but my optimism is fading into the reality that ,as far as UT 2003 goes, im skruud. I took a step back and played some UTclassic to feed the online urge. Still fun but kinda lackluster and dated compared to 2003. Maybe an uprade to XP would help....I dont know. Thx again man ,youre good peeps.

    You wanna make sure you dont turn everything up. Your card cant handle it.
