    Exclamation User.ini --- special

As I recently began playing UT2K3 over the net. I found out that certain ppl was reacting much faster than me. That made me wonder.
Were they faster than me in general. How the heck could that guy fire a lightning gun and hit me when is was doging thrugh tha air.
How the did they do that move. Fire a pulserifle sphere, ride the elevator and hit that spehre with a regular rifle shot.

Whith theese facts in my mind I have set out to investigate the hardcore gamers small tips and moves.

My first assignment is to increase the reaction time but still have my precission. I changed my view angle to 90 degrees thinking about more.
I have increased my sensetivity on the mouse but then i loose my accuracy.

I wonder about this very much and began to think maybe it was my configuration layout... move forward on mouse button 2. Jump on the arrow up, strafe with the side arrow keys. move bakwards with the back key. Fiering my alt weapon with ctrl key. and dodge with ins. It now feels as if i must unlearn my keys to a better layout to get a faster reaction time.

With my middle mousbutton/mousweel i changed weapon between the flack and the link gun ,to do this I changed something in my user.ini to E=pipedswitchweapon 5 | pipedswitchweapon 7

Yet I feel like im loosing special moves and certain tweaking abillities. I have done what was said in...

    TweakTown

    ...But I still miss something...

I was wondering if you, here at this forum could help me out and tell something about your personal tweaking.
Or just to tell about your most sucsessfull change that gave you your special edge...

    Thank you !

It's whatever you are comfortable with. That sounds just terrible to me.

I use wsad for movement, shift for duck, q e r t f c z for weapons, and have the mouse set at 1.25

Something I'll get round to that I used in Q3 is to bind weapons to keys around the movement keys. For this reason no hardcore quaker will advise using the arrow keys for anything except menu commands. for example -

I use esdf for moving, this leaves

    CAPS/A - for Q3 Lightning/UT Link Gun
    Z/ Backslash - for Q3 Plasma/UT Minigun
    Q/W - for Q3 Rail/UT Lightning Gun
    C/V - for Q3 Shotgun/UT Shock Rifle
    R/T - Didn't use in Q3/ Thinking about translocator

(in case you're wondering I had rockets on RMB)

The reason i have two keys for each bind is that I have clumsy fingers and, if you look at your keyboard, you'll see they are together in pairs so It doesnt matter if I miss one.

This might seem a bit much to remember especially if your new to FPS's but, trust me, I thought that when it was suggested to me, but I gave it a go and its amazing how quickly the keys become second nature.

It'll totally open your game up because you are much more able to change to a particular weapon in the middle of battle depending on if the bugger runs/attacks/hides/is above/below/etc... If you have to cycle through a load of weapons the chances are the battlefield will have changed in that time and you'll be fighting close combat with a Lightning Gun or something equally disadvantageous.

Above all practice! If a player is turning round and enlightening you, mid air, the chances are its because hes pulled that particular mouseflick a thousand times and its the kind of shot that seperates the men from the boys so its worth taking the time to perfect.

See if you can get a friend to play dummy on a server for a couple of hours and practice things like shooting rockets at jumppad apexes and long range Flak grenade target practice. There's one rule in this game - the longer you play the better you'll get.

:haha: don't worry, with a little practice u'll be able to do all those yourself. Tweaking the user.ini won't really give u skills though
it may make your life a little easier. I like the pipedswitchweapon thing a lot. I change btw Flak and RL, Mini and assault, Shock and Link using that command.

Your key setup is really bizarre :bulb: if you ask me but hey whatever u're comfortable with...

Your best bet, as p3n, suggested is to practice practice and practice

Interesting debate. I'm going thru the same heartache - i.e. - getting fried by guys whose moves I can't match.

I recently changed my config from one that was as awkward as our friend's here, and 2 weeks later I'm only just feeling natural with it. Still getting fried, though....:bulb:

    Default my controls

I usually play with the arrow keys and the 0 in the number pad for the translocator, and the ctrl button for jump, mouse to fire and secondary fire.
