how to make textures transparent

i need to make textures transparent for my trees does any one no how? i can make have the texture with the leaves etc. but the part i want transrent i fill in pure black in photoshop. then i import texture into ut and set the texture to alpha layer yet it still stays black with the leaf textures can anyone help? not sure what im doing wrong.

Well, I am possibly the worst person to answer this question - I wasted days trying to export transparent textures from photoshop through sheer incompetance. I take it you know that the image has to be saved as a TGA. Make sure you set an alpha channel or it won't work. I'll come back with a link in a little bit - if you are lucky some1 might jump in and save you from my dodgy advice. The funny thing is, I export TGA files from photoshop to flash all the time. I just seem to get this mental block when it comes to doing things which involve Ued.

Hi Ennio, Just a note, the image doesn't have to be saved as a .TGA file, you can save directly to Ued's favourite texture format .DDS

You are right Fordy, but I can't find the earlier plug in for photoshop - Nvidia has only got the ps7 dx9 version which is no good to me, so i'm stuck doing my conversions in the editor unless any1 knows where I can get a previous version - or does that version work with ps6 and dx8? or am I just hopelessly incompetant?

As far as im aware, that version only works with DX9, but should be ok with PS 6, I dunno where to get the older versions from
