What are your system specs? What's the rig's OS?

You should post such info in order to get help, IMO.

5200 is not ideal for gaming - Should have taken 5800 or 5900. If u can not afford it - get geforce 4 Ti 4200/4600 instead.

I bought the 5200 for about 93 dollars ibcluding shipping and it out preforms m6y tnt2 peace of crap alot. also it is great for gaming, just make sure to get ur softwar figured outso u can make it run at its best. All those who say the 5200 isn't ideal for gameing don't know S*** about the card and have never taken a look at it. With the new drivers out there and newer software to make it run better it out preforms some geforce 4 ti 4200's.

    Default FX cards

i just got the FX 5600 256ddr card and it is killer and all i hear from u ati guys is how this or that is better

but all the games i have on my system run great
with the expection of VC (due to graphic problems with the game its self) and they all run fast with the highest setting on
even AAO runs at a high frame rate with 5600

well for the 5200 check to make sure u have the 4.3.4.5 driver installed i tryed the 5600 with the 4.4 driver(the newest) and had crappy results

    in case ur wondering
    AMD XP 2200+
512ddr Corsiar Memory with Heat Sink
    Gigabyte KT-400 Mobo
    Ge FX5600 256ddr 8xAGP
    (Had Ge Force 420mx 64mbpci)

    o btw ATI sux4bux

I disagree - I strongly believe that Nvidia 5900 ultra is the best . Other cards like Radeon 9700, Geforce Ti 4600 etc are great too but not the best.

    Unhappy

hey i am tired of all u ppl dissing the 5200 that card is good for ppl who do not want to spend over 100 dollars and still want a good card. so all of u who havn't tested it and don't even know how well it preforms then u need to just keep al u coments to urselves. Also yes this card would seem like crap to all of u who have high end cards because it isn't as powerful but for me who doesn't have the kind of money u all have this card is great and it does all the functions i want and playes all of my games that i have a at high .

well snwboarder, yoou really do not have to worry about people who suggest to buy a fx5900 to someone who has a 5200....
this is a main problem here in the forums that too much people actually do not even think of what YOU want or what would be good for you and your requests but only dream of the fastestcards available... just because they never will have one or something...

just don't listen to these comments.. do your own thing (*lol*) filter the information important to you and ignore those damn "which is fastest - ati or nVidia discussions.. best thing you can do...

any chance of a benchmark at 1024-768 for your setup. i was thinking of upgrading to the 5600 or even the 5800 non ultra at a stretch.

    Default RAdeon v. Geforce

I can totally sympathise with the problem here.

I too want to upgrade but do not have £££ or laods of dollars to spend.

    Perhaps this will assist:

    1. The FX 5200 runs DX9 and so for future games on a low budget it is a good bet. However, it is actually slower than a GEforce 4 Ti etc. BUT, these cards only run DX 8. SO, if you were looking for a good budget card for the future (And aren't we all looking to the future with HL2?) the 52000 is fine.

    2. Secondly, I notice people are debating teh Geforce 5900 v. Radeon 9800. BAsically, Nvidia have the best card on the market in the 5900. Unfortunately, for many of us, it is way out of the price range.

    3. The RAdeon 9700 PRO is a fantastic card, and still holding its price rather well. You MAY be able to get it cheaply, but it will be double what you have paid for the FX5200. You may try to get a RAdeon 9500 pro as this outperforms the 5200, 5600. They are quite hard to find, but good cards.

Personally, I would save my money and get either the 9700 pro or the Geforce 5800. Both are outstanding cards, the Radeon is better, but not by much. The Geforce can also be noisey.

    HOpe this helps.

    Nevertheless, it

The only thing you can really do is drop the resolution/detail setting.

For $100, the FX5200 is not crap. The only other DX9 option would've been a Radeon 9200. Neither card holds a real advantage over the other. Both are vast improvements over a TNT2.

But, it is still a pretty slow card by today's standards. That and coupled with a not so powerful system (by today's standards), it's not going to perform very well if the detail setting and resolution are high.
