    Unhappy Laser Instagib (customizable shock/instagib gun) [ALPHA:TEST]

    I've released an alpha version of my Laser Instagib mutator. Even though it's an alpha don't let that fool you, this is a quality version that can stand up to many final releases. Download instructions and detailed information can be found at the following link.

    THIS MUTATOR IS FOCKING HYPE! The effects are amazing (FAR BETTER THEN THE RETAIL INSTAGIB EFFECTS) and the customization is FOCKING DANGEROUS!

    THERE SHOULD BE MUTATOR OWNAGE AWARDS AND THIS SHOULD WIN AT LEAST 5 TIMES JUST FOR BE SO DANGEROUS.

    Ok sorry about that. I like instagib and when I saw this I started freaking out. I configured this one beam I call, 'heavy ice', its a white beam with an aqua external glow, and heavy ass particles that only fall down vertically when the beam is shot. FOCKING WICKED!

    SoSilencer your the FOCKING MAN, this mut is a FRIGGEN ******!

    I can't wait till I play this online and see all the guys playing with custom beams!!! You can really can creative and personalize your laser beam effect, its like your trademark style.


    Some suggestions
    =============
    - Make it unlimited ammo (instagib come on)
    - Increase the damage (sometimes a bot shot me when I had armor and I didn't die, I went down to like 40 health)
    - This is tough but: Have particle patterns, so the particles fly away in a zig zag, or spiral away (this has potential)


    BUT NEVER MIND THAT! THIS MUT IS AWESOME NO MATTER WHAT. THIS ALPHA IS EVEN WICKED! YAHOOOOOO. BEST MUT EVER!

    SoSilencer@The mutator rocks man! Why would you want a new model for this mutator. The default UT2003 guns look awesome!

    hehe by coincidence i have the exact same preference for IG beams

    wow very nice, i thought it would be pure IG tho, i was a little dissapointed by adrenaline, ammo, shield, etc . . . can you make an option "PURE IG"?

    Thanks for the feedback so far. Glad you guys like it. But since so many of you have mentioned it I should explain how things are planned.

    I'm planning several versions of the gun/mutator. One will of course be a true instagib like many of you want. It will feature all the same rules as normal instagib, of course many things will be optional about it (such as shots going through multiple players or stopping at the first).

    I may also include an older non-instagib version that does constant damage for as long as the beam is visible (ie the longer you are touching a beam, the more damage you take, and if you walk into a beam that's still visible you also take damage). This one operates on multiple power levels that you can cycle through with the lowest doing little damage but firing fast, the higher versions do more damage and stay visible for slightly longer but also use more ammo and fire more slowly.

    Finally there will be a modified form of the version you have now. It's a quasi-instagib in that it isn't truely instagib, simply high damage. There are also some pickups which allow you to get enough health/shield to withstand one or two shots. There will also be a few other tricks I can't share yet, but the general idea of this version would be fast-paced instagib-like action while still keeping some pickup strategy and motivation for more movement around the map.

    The last version is mainly part of a slightly larger project that will involve several other weapons and many gametypes and other features. I can't really say anything about that just yet though. What you guys are interested in, the true instagib version, should be included in the next version. Sorry though, I don't know how long it will be (I haven't decided how much I want to include in it yet) so you'll have to wait a little while for it. Shouldn't be TOO long though.

    RailGunner@ I have quake3....so you say that Quake3 has a railgun in it? If so, I will take a look at it to get the idea what it looks like.



    SoSilencer@ I like the concept and idea. The last larger project idea sounds rather interesting.

    There are some fav weapons I like from other games that I wish to see in UT2003 as a mutator. Below is one of them.......

    first of all I love this mod, it's a blast and really adds a new element to insta.

    I noticed a couple issues though:

    1. you have weapon pickups, but they are useless since you spawn in with the weapon already ( I only play with weapon stay on)

    2. the starting weapon is the shield gun, even though you already possess the insta style weapon, IMO you should start holding the insta gun, and when you run out of ammo, then be able to use the shield gun until you can get more ammo

    3. I didn't get a chance to check, but if the shield gun is selectable, it should be usable to protect against shots (I'll check that as soon as I can to see if it's already possible)

    4. I'm not sure if it's a glitch or not, I didn't have any other mutators running, but I started with 100 adrenaline when I first spawned in (not sure if this is supposed to happen) but if it's not a glitch, I think you should still have to collect adrenaline normally

    other than that I love it, it plays great other than the minor glitches you mentioned in the readme. I also can't wait for the newer versions to arrive, this is a sweet mod, and I love how the beam is customizable :up:

    Gusher you got a nice Laser gun model? Maybe you could send it over to Silencer for LZ-IG, just like that other dart gun.

    gah i love it!

    i like the purple shield gun. i think it should stay.

    best part is the configuration

    it feels more "powerful" than the instagib. i cant really explain it.

    sometimes i dont die when shot (make damage more)

    give it unlimited ammo and take away the shield gun, make it more like instagib.

    this is definitely an improvement over instagib. i love it.

    I've spent a little while tonight messing around in a modelling program and came up with this basic outline/shape. You're looking at the white lines, not the ak in the background (hehe).

    Kinda dinka, but if the AK handle was part of the shape and there was a lot more detail it'd look kinda like a futuristic AK weapon which is kinda sexy imo. The drop-down area at the front of the barrel is for a grapple hook launcher, something that must be integrated with the weapon model. There also needs to be a grapple hook mesh, real mean/dangerous looking, that is a seperate mesh (since you need to be able to shoot it).

    Rather interesting.........many variations can be made with that outline. From urban cyberpunk type looking to maybe a clean bright colored or maybe cream colored plastic surface.......

    Here is a slightly updated version. I don't know if I like it or not.



    As far as texturing goes, I think a chrome and black metal finish would be nice. UT2K3 textures are very versatile and it would be extremely easy to make parts of the textures reflective chrome while leaving the rest alone. I think it could look really cool. I'm just throwing around ideas right now though, I really don't know what I want the gun to look like. It's one of those things where I'll know it when I see it but not one second before.

    especially when i a team match and you see a laser come outa no-where and BOOM, the whole place liights up and your team mates gone lol

    i reckon it needs a custom model, i like the 2nd one gusher posted.

    Gusher's second looks pretty Nice.

    But I imagine a gun with more of a sci-fi feel (closer to the first), but is not rounded, instead its cut like a real laser. THATS the important thing, LASER, keep that in mind when finding the right model.

    Your's might be right silencer.

    I'am even thinking have a couple different models, and make them selectable in game, so people will have different beams, and different guns. (i.e. my heavy ice beam, would have a chilly ice model). While a purple/blue beam, would have a science gun style model.

    fun as hell...i think this is gonna be quite popular.
    Question: If you're playing online, and each player has a customized beam, will the client see all the different colors? That'd be very cool.

    Yes that is one of the main features. All of the customizations work online. So when you're on some server somewhere with your awsome beam that looks better than all the rest everybody else will see it just like you do. Or when somebody else does something really cool with their configuration you'll be able to see it just how they do, and you can use the console command listed in the other thread to save their config to learn how they did it. Or maybe somebody sets up a really ugly beam, you'll see it just how they do so you can make fun of their lack of style.

    The only catch is that in future versions you will be able to set minimum and maximum levels for certain settings such as particle density. Let's face it, if you have a slower machine it just wouldn't be fun to be playing online when some idiot comes on with a maxed out particle density setting and it drops your fps in half. To prevent this the game will try to draw everybodies beam how they have it configured but it won't ever go outside the limits you set.

    Looking good....when I brainstorm I imagine it with smooth rounded edges instead of flat sharp edges with cooling vents on thje sides and maybe logos as well....Because UT2003 posseses colorful surrounding as your lasers do as well I think that maybe neon color approach for this gun is my choice. Colors like that will make it stand out with those brightly cool laser lights and and the same time make it look SOo lightweight.......just likle futuristic guns are meant to be.

    This is a sweet mutator, I really like it. The ability to customize it so much is what really makes it stand out.

    I don't mind the model so much, although I probably would have prefered a color variation of the Shock Rifle like you did a color variation of the shield gun. Someone else mentioned the ability to choose what model was used in the configuration, which would be very cool, especially if you had the option of choosing one of the normal UT2K3 weapon models. From my experience user-made gun models are usually not all that great, and a sub-par one really would take down some of the coolness of this mutator. From the new ones that have been posted, I'd say I like this one the best:

    It just really looks like an instagib gun, something designed to promote one-shot accuracy, as opposed to the curved/sharp handgun shaped one, which doesn't look like it would serve that purpose at all.

    Either way this is great so far, I can't wait to see the other three versions you mentioned. I know I'll be using this mutator when playing Instagib as opposed to the default one. =]

    All i can recommend is get a really sweet, light weight model... and have it true instagib and just have unlimited ammo like normal instagib

    Some suggestions for this mutator if ya ever wanna implement them

    Additional customization:

    Beam Thickness: How thin or thick the beam will be, thin as a needle, or thick as a, well... lol (just say up to double the size of the beam now)

    Multiple Beam Convergence Point: Have it so that when it shoots it will start with 2, 3 or 4 (or more, have a slider determining how many) beams of light that will converge at the end of the beam, this would be a cool looking effect

    Enhanced Beam Impact Explosion: I know this would kind of go against normal instagib but, put the secondary fire as a slower moving, but deadlier beam... when it hits it will explode like the initial redeemer blast (where it implodes right before it explodes) then just have the player gib in a huge mess... or if you wanted i suppose you could add a little splash damage to this effect also, OR, have this as the effect with the sniper zoom

    just some ideas

    I read through most of this thread and I hope I didn't miss this if it was mentioned, but since this is a kind of instagib/railgun spin off have you considered additions to gameplay that weren't available in UT1 insta? Like for instance the shield? I personally would love to see a form of insta play with the twist of a shield. It would add a new dimension to gameplay, especially with reflected shots. If you got good enough you could direct incomming shots back at your opponent or use his shot for your own purposes during defense. Of course the shields eventually run out. I use a bind to pull shields up and I use it whenever I face the link gun and the shock rifle. I wished the instagib gameplay had reflective shields. (something new)

    It would be very cool if you could perform a type of rocketjump with the rail beam and boost your teamates like in instagib.

    Kind of like an instagib/rocket areana hybrid...

    People like these features in intagib and rocket areana, I have always wondered what it would be like to have it all in one game.

    This new mod with simular gameplay, but different challenges might be able to better differentiate itself from instagib with the abiltiy to use shields, deflect shots, a health meter, rail boosts for teamates, and railjumps.

    Just some ideas.

    Here is the simple bind I use to pull up shields. It can be modified to pull the railgun on release.

    Q=Switchweapon 1 | altfire | onrelease Switchtobestweapon

    for instance

    Q=Switchweapon 1 | altfire | onrelease Getweapon Xweapons.Railgun

    Or whatever you name the weapon in the code..
