    Question [MAP:CTF] Coret2k3 - small update 24/04/03

    13/05/03

    The map has now gone out to a few select people for closed testing.

    I think a public beta should be around soon enough

    I have just created a new page on my website for this map now. I hadnt done it before as I didnt know where this map would go, but I am definately going to finish it now.

    So a big thanks to everyone for the nice emails and feedback here. I appreciate it :up:

    Thanks to Jeff for giving me feedback on the map and how its progressing. He is a big Coret player so when the beta is released it should be quite close to the original flow.

    I have included a progress table so you get an idea of what rooms are being worked on and finished to a beta standard.

    but I want to place it in the correct forum now.

    Anyhow, I would appreciate it if people could carry on letting me know what their likes and dislikes were about the original and how I can improve over it.

    Hopefully there will be an Alpha available soon but it will be very basic. I am just throwing ideas around at the moment. The lighting is very basic, the textures are just thrown in and not aligned and Meshes are placed in.

    Saying this it doesnt look too bad for an alpha.

    Very good! Me liked coret, hehe and my gues is that I'm even going to like it more now.
    Looking at the screens this map looks amazing, I especially like the lower corridor looking down to door in distance screeny, it's the most moody and looks very proffesional. The other shots R great too, but some spots are a little to bright IMO (to bright to be as moody as the first shot, but maby good for gameplay cuz you'll spot the characters easier I don't know).
    Anyway, good luck, I can't wait for this map:up:

    looks amazing dwarf..i've been following ur map since ur first post (except u haven't made ne updates on ur site )

    i know u probably haven't dun much work here but in the flag room...make sure that the shockrifle is placed correctly...In the last Coret remake i've seen the shockrifle is placed in a way that kinda stops u from using it to stop flag carriers....maybe darken the lighting a bit..but not 2 much

    So any suggestions as to what you would like and what you wouldnt like in the map?

    I am considering placing a lift or a couple in the map to have lift jumps etc.
    The flak room is further away from the main map room now due to the way I have designed it. Its not a great deal further but enough to place a lift in the corridor before the main pillar to the flag room. This I am thinking of having as a great way to escape and fool someone or get to the upper corridors just that little bit quicker from the flak room.

    Also the main area may be different. I have already seen a reactor mesh that I may use for the central bit and have all the action around that.

    There will still be a upper area where the amp was but instead of having a moon outside I want to have glass in that area between girders that looks out over a snowy landscape.

    I want to set Coret as an abandoned industrial factory that has been taken over for the UT2k3 games. I will put up a thread on the main forum as I want a sort of story to go with it. Also a brief destription that will go with the animated map at the start of the game.

    So anyone up for writing a small background story?

    "The Coret Facility was once a major source of energy for the residents on the Northern part of Na Pali. In 2301 the Lindari Corperation moved in and bought over the Coret Facility in order to provide a new unique battle ground for the Tournament. Coret was one of the first non built for battle arenas, and the very first for Capture the Flag. Since its debut Coret has been known for its high speed action fights and has lead to the rise and down fall of many. After being shutdown for the past 2 years inorder to renovate it, it is back and looking better than ever"

    Damn!! I wanted to remake that map !!

    But I haven't that great ideas!! Looks really, really good.

    Did you made it totally new or did you exort/import it and redesigned it ??

    I hope there are some maps left to redesign until I know the Editor better.

    scribbled down the general layout on paper and also have Ued2 open with coret open to try to keep the map similar.

    Finding the meshes that work right and getting the brushes the right height has been a real ball ache.

    Oh!! So you made it brandnew !!

    Do you know how to change the size of a mesh and also of a brush. Because if i made a cube for example I must size it before I click on the cube button.

    And how did you find out the right correlation ?? Because when someone imports a map for UT2003 the maps are too small. Thats, I think is the hardest thing to try out.

    I cannot await the ready Coret-Map!! Really Nice!

    One thing I hated about the original was that I always got turned around...

    ... with the flag-base radar, hopefully I won't do such noobish things, but I know that I, at least, like those handy team arrows...

    Just my opinion.

    nice goin red....IMO i think u should expand the level...not alot. But you know where the RL is (in the little incave) well personally in the room that connects it i think there should be another path out there that kinda goes around. Im not sure how much u wanna chnage the level but since this isn't a port but a new level I think you could try it. (ps. me wants to beta :P)

    How come everyone is saying less light? I was thinking some of the shots looked kind of dark already. One of the things i loved about the old coret was just how much light there was. As far as ut2k3 maps, a lot actually seem dark to me, but one that got the lighting right was Chrome. Lighting similar to that would be great! OF course, i trust the map creator to do what he thinks best as those screens look amazing!

    Really good-looking but I don't like the concrete wals in pic 6, as well as the concrete pillars in pic 9: concrete doesn't seem to fit the high-tech theme of this sequel IMO... You may find interesting to fix this by simply changing the skins/texs... Some BSP curves can be better with more polys but this depends on the FPS of course...

    Otherwise, the overall atmosphere's pretty nice, especially when I consider the fact it's an alpha :up:

    I just played a Coret remake on a 2k3 server last night that looked alot like this... was this it? Seriously, it was very similar if not the same.

    I think you're mistaken. The map never was put on any server, it's only about 50% complete (no mid area, no flag room), and can't be played in CTF. You were either a) playing a different coret remake, or b) are totally confused.

    I think Irix is right, it was only 40% complete and it would have been under a DM map type.

    It looks to be the best recreated out-of-box UT map yet.

    I will definitely give this one a go when its ready.

    From looking at the screenies, the lighting needs some work but other than that it looks good. The use of static meshies really keeps that "Coret" look.

    I guess I'll comment more when its done and I 've played it...

    Hey Red Dwarf!.
    Map looks cool.

    Have u though about this just to add a bit more atmosphere!
    Have a few Windows in the map with Rain Pouring down outside.
    I think that would be cool.

    Havent had much time to do allot to the map in the past few weeks

    Although I now have sort of finalised the upper corridor as it now has more space to jump in height and a little more in the width. Had a nightmare wth the static meshes I created not lighting so I had to undo all I had done which ticked me off a little

    As for atmospehere, I have ideas about that. Its hard to put windows in along the corridors as I am intending the map being underground, but the main upper windows looking out should still be there with a nice little twist at the udamage.

    I have added just a touch of fog to the level as it gives the impression of a steamy environment.Dont worry though as its very think and I have used a very dark grey to achieve this.

    I will post some updated piccies tonight if I can get some done.

    Again a big thanks to Gradient for editing me some of the models and textures :up:

    Dude.. I want to play this thing.. Coret was some good times.. Can't you link us up with a Beta or something.
