    Default Server browser says "Connecting to Master Server" forever

    If this happens and you can't get a server list and nothing appears on the News page, check your System\UT2003.log file. If it contains a line which says the following in your log:

    Log: Resolved ut2003master1.epicgames.com -> 207.135.145.2
    Log: Connect() returned SOCKET_ERROR: 10061

    If that line occurs, the most likely cause is firewall software such as ZoneAlarm. You may need to disable this software or configure it to allow UT2003 to make connections to TCP port 27902.

    Note that a similar line in the log file with "SOCKET_ERROR: 10035" harmless and can be ignored.

    I have set this Value:
    [UWeb.WebServer]
    Applications[0]=xWebAdmin.UTServerAdmin
    ApplicationPaths[0]=/ServerAdmin
    Applications[1]=xWebAdmin.UTImageServer
    ApplicationPaths[1]=/images
    DefaultApplication=0
    bEnabled=True
    to true.
    That solved the Problem for me.

    Default Neither solved my problem...

    I did have this line in my log file:

    Log: Resolved ut2003master1.epicgames.com -> 207.135.145.2
    Log: Connect() returned SOCKET_ERROR: 10061

    But there is no firewall... so that can't be it.

    The other solution of setting that value to "True" didn't do anything either.

    But maybe my problem is not fully the same:

    It does not only keep querying the master server, but there isn't even a server browser....
    All there is is: NEWS | FILTER | LAN | FAVORITES
    No DM, CTF or anything, besides there is no news either.

    (or is this all caused by querying the master server?)

    Plz see if you might no another solution?

    Thx,
    Grim

    Question I have the same server problem...

    I thought that epic games was a bit more aggressive to give more solutions to a problem.

    I have the same problem, other games go online ok, but UT2003 just keeps retrying connection. Tech support phone line said they won't support this part of the game even though it's a multiplayer product, but they did suggest uninstalling ZoneAlarm even if its not running!

    Remember if you are using WinXp ; you have a firewall setup by default and this can cause UT to lock up and not allow connections to pass.

    I suggest disable this and use Tiny personal firewall or something similar. ( more configuration options if you are into that)

    Since this is a forum read by Epic peeps ; I just want to say THANKYOU !!!!! for providing some a great game , UT and UT2K3 have given me hours and months and years of fun .

    They are probably few of the games that I have actually gone out and bought because I think you guys deserve the $$ for the work you do.

    Cheers !

    I have the same issue. No firewall, UT1 runs fine (it has become a little unstable in the past few months for some reason though), but I still can't see any servers nor direct connect to an IP.

    I worked Tech Support for Earthlink for 2 years, and this does fix Zone Alarm firewall issues

    Uninstall ZoneAlarm = :up:

    Then reinstall if you want. But keep ^that^ in mind if you do.

    But i do not run zone alarm, and have the same prob so that can't be the reason, i play unpatched right now, but it's still very frustrating to play like this, knowing there's a lot of bugs in the unpatched version. I want a solution, asap or i'll give this game up and start playing ut again, that works fine!

    Had the same problem twice tonight, fixed it both times by simply by restarting UT2k3

    1/ master server is or was connecting, log file showed it had connected.

    2/ Firewall up, but the Browser has worked since I got my hands on the demo.

    Only thing I can add is XP Pro, is it an issue with XP networking?

    As I installed XP simply to test UT2k3, to see if it was faster in it than 2K Pro and it is. So I have kept it installed.

    But I have networked my 2 PC's sharing my DSL via ICS. Occasionally I cant get any data through my LAN at all and have to use the right click Repair option for the LAN connection in the SYS tray.

    Now UT2k3 worked fine under 98se and 2K Pro on version 2136 on the same LAN setup, but not until I installed XP instead of 2K did I get problems.

    That help any?

    just a little tip, if your hooked up through a router, most newer routers have built in firewalls, you need to go into the config and open the port that ut uses.

    I have the exact same problem as spacelordmf....It keeps saying "Connection failed...retrying". There is no SOCKET error or anything in the UT2003.log. I have reinstalled the game twice, and I even reinstalled the SP1 patch for Windows XP. I'm on a cable modem, and UT2003 used to work fine. I checked the CD Key in the registry, and it is correct. Any suggestions? Would a complete reformat and reinstall of Windows XP fix this (I've kinda been meaning to do this for some time)?

    -Matt Smith

    Edit: I reformatted & reinstalled Windows XP today, and all seems well. I can connect to the master server and join games. I'm not quite sure what the problem was, but the computer had been acting odd lately anyway, with certain programs not wanting to run and such. At least I can play now...

    I had the same problem, but by editing my \system\ut2003.ini with the following, I got my problem solved.
    I am behind a NAT-router, but without any other firewall.
    I am pretty sure, that it is a master server problem, and not a "user problem".

    I too have just started getting the same problem. I have had the game since the first day it was released and has been working great. I installed the 2136 and the 2166 patches a little while ago and it still worked great for about a week. Now i can not hit the master server. I am behind a linksys router/firewall, but have had all the ports forwarded since day one. I also put my gaming machine in the DMZ to make sure that the traffic was not blocked on my end. In the log, it shows traffic going out the master server, yet the game still says "trying to connect". The only servers I can connect to are favorites. Any ideas before i try to reinstall UT2k3?

    I just bought this game today and I can not get online. It just says unable "Connection failed", I have tried some of the solutions above, and I even rang Infrograms which were about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

    I basically have two machines. The first on is my server and has adsl Alcatel Frog on it, it aint a powerful machine so no use playing games. The 2nd machine teh games machine using XP ICS. I have disabled Norton Internet Security on it.

    i have pinged Epic

    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

    ping ut2003master2.epicgames.com

    So that goes out okay. I can connect also to the irc within UT2k3.

    This program has some serious problems. Even when I have a firewall working all my other programs and games work fine no problem, just this pile of exgrement doesn't work.

    This is basically a bump....

    running WinXP, until today, everything worked fine..

    Now, my Teamspeak won't work, UT2003 won't work (same problem, it keeps seeing it's reconnecting), and Aol IM and ICQ stopped working, all saying they couldn't connect.

    I reconfigured AOL and ICQ by clicking autoconfigure in their settings menu, and now they both work. It seems there is a way to work around it with those programs.

    Is there any way to edit the game itself to use alternate ports? (I am a student at a University who does use a firewall.... obviously last night they changed some ports around....)

    Any hints? I did no pay $50 for this game to play it for a couple of weeks...??

    help..

    BTW- I can't connect to IRC within the game, and gamespy won't even load a room. Any ideas if maybe somethings wrong with my XP configuration>

    127.0.0.1 is your local machine's ip-address. That is not the address of the unreal servers.... I dont know what would cause that.

    I had the same problem until I realized that I had zonealarm installed. I hadnt had it running for a couple of weeks due to some other problems but as soon as I uninstalled it mine connected fine. Also this only happened when I patched ut2k to version 2199. The older versions didnt have that problem. I guess its something that they changed.

    Default This is ridiculous

    I've had nothing but problems with this game. It basically would be $50 down the drain if I didn't have the no-cd crack. Epic, this is ridiculous. Out of box, the game wouldn't work. Your horrible copy protection prevented it from working.

    I upgraded to 2199 yesterday and it doesn't work at all. I am so fed up. It's not like I'm overclocking or anything. I have a Dell System right out the box, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, 512 Megs ram, Intel CPU, Win 2k, ZoneAlarm NOT installed, etc. All other games work FINE on my system. Q3A, RTCW, Soldier of Fortune 2, NOLF2, Counterstrike, etc. EVERY GAME WORKS FINE EXCEPT THIS CRAPPY GAME. Even the UT2k3 demo worked fine.

    WHY CAN'T EPIC PROVIDE MORE ADVICE ON HOW TO FIX THIS? THERE'S OBVIOUSLY PROBLEMS IN THE CODE. IT'S NOT A FIREWALL ISSUE. I DON'T EVEN HAVE A FIREWALL, NOR DO I RUN WIN XP!!

    And frankly without the no-cd crack I wouldn't have been able to get this far. The standard 2199 upgrade wouldn't even run on my computer.

    Epic you really let us down here. I speak for a lot of other people too when I say I will NEVER purchase an Epic game ever again. Why bother with the hassle.

    My $50 has gone down the drain.

    Hello, here is my answer to your problems =)

    Open the "hosts" file located in ur "<windows directory>/system32/drivers/etc/" with notepad.

    In the end of the file you should see something like :
    127.0.0.1 ut2003master1.epicgames.com
    127.0.0.1 ut2003master2.epicgames.com

    Remove these two lines then save the file
    => Enjoy UT2003 multiplayer games
