    That's exactly what I was about to ask... he/she got me into mapping and for that I say thanks! Was and still is greatly appreciated (although I have to say I haven't mapped for a while... but still it got my zest for mapping started and from there I blossomed).

    Hi all, Noctivagus is a god for those tuts

    But I am getting stuck at an early stage... I've looked through this thread quickly and done several searches for this problem but couldnt find anything on it.

    Basically, when I press the "build Cube" button it will instantly build the cube and I want it to bring up the CubeBuilder Box like in the tut.

    Does anyone know how I could get it to do this?
    Maybe an option or reinstall UnrealEd ?

    like everyone has been saying: great tuts, man! but theres a few things i dont get.

    1. i found another tut on making teleporters and it was very vague on making the cool effects. if you could make a tut on making various cool effects with emmiters, thatd be freakin sweet!

    also, i have a problem. when i went to make subtract a new cube for a skybox, all my terrain vanishes completely. theres nothing left and if i go to play the level as is, i die as soon as i spawn. i know that its not anything that is already wrong, because if i play the map before making the next cube, it works fine.

    any solutions to this?

    yeah, thats the only one i could find. the effects portion of it isnt that great, though. i was looking for something with a little more variety... and one that was a little clearer.

    Yeah, I had that once in the beginning of a map. I built a hollow box as a base. At one point (I still don't know how it happened) some of the textures of the base where linked somehow to some of the textures of the skybox (many UU's away). The base's properties had changed too, in that my ASVehicle points and the PlayerStart suddenly gave the error that they were in the geometry level, or level geometry (while they were clearly not (>16UU above gndlvl).
    I had to delete the base, rebuild all and add it again. Just to be sure I rebuilt the skybox aswell. It was all in the beginning, so it wasn't much work.

    Question download unrealed 3.0

    I have unreal editor 2.0 and I would really like to know where I can get unrealed 3.0? All the online tutorials are for version 3.0. Can you please help?

    I'm just starting. I'm on part II, where it explained how to merge the polys on the side of a staircase. I'm afraid the explanation is not good enough for my feeble mind. The stairs show a blue wireframe and I've got the side polys selected. I right-click and go to polygons > merge, but it doesn't work. i've still ogt a stupid number of polys on the flat face.

    Can anyone explain how to mere polys?

    As far as I can recall you select the brush, not the faces ( might be best to select it in wireframe) and then right click and merge polies.

    bear in mind that some brushes/faces cannot be optimized beyond what they are already, it depends on the brush...

    Default noob needs help

    Ok here's the deal. I am working my way through the tutorials and I am stuck very early on. I am trying to build the sample room. I had no problem making the cube with the specified dimensions nor subtracting it. My problem came with adding the textures. I loaded up the texture file as instructed and selected the walls subdirectory. I selected the desired wall texture, then tried to select a wall to apply the texture to. Nothing turned blue as described in the tutorial. I am wondering if I must use some selection tool that was maybe not mentioned. This seems easy enough, but it is giving me th eblues:sour:

    This is a great tutorial but I'm still stuck with the whole door thing, leading to the other area.


    Need tips like, how to move an entire rooms of objects, to line up better with the terrain area, i'd like to see a screenshot of your door farther out and how you connected it to the other level.

    You can marque select the room and the obecjts in it ( though I would move the objects separately as they have funky pivots).

    As for the terrain, you can set the terrain actor to snap to the grid, so you can line it up with your BSP more effectively.

    Yes , Thanks much. For a noob like me with the best of intentions, I usually screw up more stuff than I make, So this TuT is invaluable to me. Can't wait for more.

    Try double clicking the wall first and it will turn blue then open the texture menu and click the texture picture. You'll see the texture pic get a border then it should show up on your wall.

    Question Static Mesh

    It appears to me you know what your doing with this editor. I have just started learning to use it and it seem's to be lots of fun. But I have one problem. Some of my Static Mesh's I create are "solid" and others I can walk through.
    Do you know why this happens and if there is a way to fix it?

    Example: I pulled the rocket launcher out of "WeaponStaticMesh.RocketLauncherPickup" package and made it a decoration in a large room. I was able to walk through it. Then from the same package I set a large RedeemerMissle and it was solid.

    I've noticed about 3/4's the static mesh's I place in my room are walk through - ?

    I appreciate anyones help.

    although I am noobier than you, the one time (so far that I had to deal with that) I used the collision tool in the static mesh browser. Don't know how it all works yet but I will. Look in the forum for the same question, I think theres one about blocking and covering your mesh with another object that will cause collision. Sorry I'm not more help.     Hey I just found a great thing on the 3dbuz.com/vbforum/sv_home.php site. Go there and register then to downloads then scroll down to the unreal tut (just before the maya stuff, then you will find a world of help that you can take home with you. Hope that helps, I'm loading up on stuff 2 :up:

    yeah i have tried everything and it says that no paths connect to Teleporter1 or whatever and obviously when i test it i dont go anywhere and so yeah if anyone could help that would be great. I also have done the tag and url thing correctly so i dont know whats going on
