    Default Sub Surface Scattering

Hi.This is rather a tech kind question, but I'm just wondering will UE3 use Sub Surface Scattering. You (gamers) maybe could have seen the technique used in Crysis (on the faces of characters because it's a technique used to realistically show things like human skin, marble or wax for example). It would be great if UE3 would use SSS.That would give so much realism.By the way,is there any site or something where I can see what exactly Graphic features and techniques will UE3 use? Thx for help.Peace

It's funny how people talk about the game engine. Sub surface scattering? Bump mapping? Pixel shader 3?! Vertex pipelines? Anti-Aliasing soft shadows rendered in real time?!!?!? The above covers lots of information about it for the techies which is nice...

For me however, as long as the game looks great, I don't care and Gears looks great. One thing that does annoy me in games is when there is a cloud of smoke and it goes THROUGH the floor!

in my case, i want know how much foliage the UE3 display without the lack of good performance, because we didtn't see much foliage till now...(ok, the trailer of "Elveon" shows a forest, but thats not an Epic "Megagame" 8) )

thx for the link! Though there's still nothing about Sub surface Scattering.I'm a CG and from what I've seen and created Sub Surface Scattering is one of the most beatiful effects. And next to this it of course gives us incredible realism. If You didn't see SSS yet, look here (the screen is from Crysis).Just imagine if UE3 could use it.It would be....PHOTOREALISTIC (umm, maybe almost but there's a chance).Of course not the whole world, but maybe only characters.Take a look.I'm writing so much about it because when I compare screens from the UT2007 or GOW and Cryis on which I can see human faces,I can see the lack of SSS on the UE3's ones. They still look kinda plastic (but after all, somehow better than in Crysis).Well, take a look for Your self.

    Welcome!

Yeah I see what you mean. I think GoW will do fine without it, there doesnt seem to be much focus on the actual characters facial expressions (not at the moment anyways, we'll know when the game launches). Regardless, the game looks great.

Gears looks par if not better. Look at marcus's scars and facial hair. The ADM's dont like discussions comparing GOW to others so we should probaly end this thread

I thought I remember hearing that there was sub surface scattering in the game. Maybe one of the devs can confirm that.

I know the new Brothers in Arms is using it and that's taking advantage of Unreal Engine 3. So.....

i'm not really that much of a graphics whore, i much prefer great gameplay. when gameplay is great, thats whats important, when graphics are good in addition to great gameplay, thats the best situation. Gears looks to have excellent gameplay along with great graphics, so thats really all i care about.

Sure! I added you to added you to a group of almost thirty people from these forums! Were going to have one big main clan, and little clans of each person depending on your timezone Its very casual (no money or anything like that) and you dont actually play everyday or anything. just a group of people with 360's who like to do some shootin'.
