Utility (PC) UT3 Tool for "ut3://" Protocol Fix

Name: UT3 Protocol Fix
Version: 1.0 Beta
Compatibility: (PC only) Tested on WinXP and Vista (Problems with Vista, read Post #7)
Description:
This tool adds the missing protocol function of UT3.
When Websites linked to ut2004://ip.adress.here:port,
UT2004 was launched, connecting immediately to the
Server which was linked in the url.

With this fix, the same function comes back for ut3!
So you can make use of the ut3:// protocol, with the
same functionality of the ut2004 ones.

Just place the included .exe file into your
"./Unreal Tournament 3/Binaries/" Directory where the
UT3.exe is located and run it one, to create the registry
entrys to get it work.

Each time you open a ut3:// link, the tool is launched,
which redirects the informations to the UT3.exe, so you
are immediately on your preferred server!

The .exe file does not contain anything else such as
spyware, virus, trojans, etc. It's just one registry
entry, creating the protocol funtion and directing it
to the UT3ProtocolFix.exe with the parameters, which
are converted to a ut3-friendly format, then ut3 gets
launched and the tool closes itself. nothing more.
Installation:
- Copy the UT3ProtocolFix.exe into your
"./Unreal Tournament 3/Binaries/" Directory (UT3.exe is
located there too)
- Run the Application once and klick on "CREATE REGISTRY
FIX" (Note: You have to do this, AFTER the app is moved
into the UT3 Directory)
! for vista: If you have UAC active, you need to run
! the program with administrationrights. To do that just
! rightklick on the UT3ProtocolFix.exe and chose
! "start as administrator"
- Close the Tool
Comments:
Please test the tool out and comment if you like it or not.
Please report how this application behaves on Windows Vista! I hadn't the chance to run a test on Vista OS, i don't know if the registry path is the same like in Win XP, so i can not guarantee if it works on Vista.

/edit:
Seems to work with Vista too. Thx@stryke!

/edit2:
WOOLF told be about one issue: When you click around a few times after you clicked on the url and the program opened, it seems like ut3 gets some sort of stuck. I couldn't reproduce it every time, but it appears after a few tries.
This doesn't seem to be a problem of the tool, merely its a problem of ut3 itself, so i suggest not to click around while ut3 is launched ;)

Its possible that you have to log in manually. but normally, after one klick or after getting logged in, it should switch to the desired adress.

Which patch do you use? 1.2?

Yeah, thats correct. but that's an issue with ut3 itself. its because this stupid login and account crap. well, i for myself don't feel annoyed by this single click, so i think its just fine =)

Works totally fine with Vista.

For the one who had problems with Vista: It should be obvious, that a programm, that changes a reg-entry needs administrationrights. Just rightklick -> start as administrator

The difference between Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3:
In Crysis you scale your performance through your settings.
In Unreal Tournament 3 you scale your performance through your hardware.

Thumbs up

I installed it yesterday on WinXP and after that,i created a Link to our Public-Server.
I klicked on the Link and UT3 started, did the login and placed me on the Server.
I only had to klick the Mousbuttons again to shoot the enemies

Thanks for the good work!

It's great to see that someone took the time to put a protocol handler together. Epic really dropped the ball when they left this one out. Great job Radon!
