The Sons Of Sera
Death, destruction and a fight to survive, these were facts of life for the stranded. And today was no different then any other since Emergence Day, but Charles had been wishing that it was. He had lost everything, except his life in one swift moment, and now he lay among with rubble of his once glorious past or at least to him. He had never been wealthy but in his own eyes he was; a family, a job, a home, and week from his wedding. He could not have asked for a better life. Then the invasion happened and his livelihood was stolen away and turned him into what he was now a, stone cold killer. Though he hated remembering his past, and it always seemed to return to him at the worst times. Times when he needed his composure, strength, and it wasn’t ever a good memory, it was always the same vibrant and yet horrible nightmare that would haunt him until his eyes closed for the last time.
Tranquility and excitement filled the Gilbert home, the engagement party for their son and future daughter in-law was going as planned. Decorations, balloons, food galore, friends, and family from all across the nation. Charles’ parents stood on the 2nd story balcony observing what all their hard work had accomplished.
“Don’t they look happy, I mean I can’t remember when I saw so much joy on Charlie’s face,” said his mother with a smile, “I only hope that their love will last.”
Norbert his father was quick to reply, “You mean like mine and yours? Or my divorced parents?” he smiled wickedly, “Come on Mary, what possibly could go wrong?”
Down in the garden Charles scanned the faces of the guests while looking for Jessica, but he was unable to find her. He caught a glimpse of his parents staring down upon the participants and decided to start up a little fun.
“Hey, are you two, too old to enjoy yourselves, or do you have “others” way to enjoy each other?” he yelled skywards, so everyone including his parents heard.
Charles could see that his comments had flustered them and that they were trying to reply, while still being civil. But he knew that this was going to turn ugly, and it was coming fast.
Norbert stared down his son with a look that could have pierced stone, and simply stated, “You’ll be lucky to get to your wedding if you keep that up,” trying not laugh he added, “I brought you into this world and I sure as f*cking hell, I will take you out!…”
Before Charles could reply, Jessica stepped in and intervened on the companies behalf, she knew where this argument would go and she want to stop it before it got there. Jessica had seen how violent these joking feuds had gotten, and she didn’t want anymore harm to come upon Charles.
“You both know that if it comes down to that, I will have to restrain both of you again and I don’t think either of you want to happen?”
Being a Gear Enforcer had its perks, and both Charles and Norbert remembered how quickly they had been disabled the last time their arguments took a turn for the worse. Both men began to rub certain muscles where phantom pain began to course through as a reminder of what did and possibly was about to reoccur. Both men fell silent and look carefully upon Jessica as she began to speak
“Now that is better, I so glad tha…”
There was a tremor, Sera had had stable tectonics for the past 300 years, even through all the battles from the Pendulum Wars there had never been a recorded tremor or earth quake. A sense of perplexity began to set in among the guest, but they thought nothing of it at first.
“That was weird, I wonder what that was.” Stated one guest.
“I believe that was earthquake?” said another with stout hesitation
“No, no an earth quake would have been bigger and you wouldn’t be standing here talking about it neither.” Commented on of the older quest. Many other speculations began to break out among the guests and the Gilbert family. When a guest proposed that there militants beginning to start their attack on the C.O.G. Regime Jessica had to step in.
“Come on now, don’t be ridiculous. The wars are long over and any resistance, if any, would be destroyed as soon as they opened fire upo…”
Once again the was a tremor but this time is wasn’t dissipating, in fact it was growing with strength. A panic began to set in among the guests and family members, people began to run for cover on the inside of the home.
For the first time in his fifteen years of knowing Jessica, he saw something he had never seen before, fear. He didn’t know what it was but it was as if she knew what was happening.
“Jessica! Jessica! Why are you still standing, come and get into cover!” But his pleas fell upon deaf ear. “Jessica, what is the matter with you can’t you see that this is dangerous?!”
He ran to her with all haste, trying to get to her before something happened. When he reached her, he saw that her complexion had changed from a light shade of pink to as white as a ghost, and shaking worse the quake itself. He didn’t care about what scared her, he was more worried about her safety at the moment. Then Jessica began to mumble,
“I can’t, it can’t be, they can’t be here. We heard them but we didn’t listen, they were right!? No, this can’t be happening! They are here and oh my God!”
“Jessica, what are you talking about? What? Who? Jessica answer me, for the love of God!" Charles was frantically trying everything in his power to bring her back to reality and get her to safety. Finally she began to snap out of it, as Charles began to pull her toward the house.
She stop twenty feet from the door and yelled to Charles, "Charles, We need to get away from here, Now!" she started to pulled Charles away from the house.
"Jess, what do you mean away from here, here is safe! If we leave, there no telling what will happen to us or "our" family."
"We won't have a family or a life for that matter if we stay here any longer! Now let's go!" She began to guide him away, but Charles stopped and took one last look at his home only to see the horror as the earth beneath his home exploded skyward. Stunned he began to run back to the ruins of his home only to be man handle by his fiancée and lead down the streets and alleys towards old industrial district. He didn't know why but he could see that Jessica was determined to get there as soon as possible.
Charles was tired, emotionally torn, and confused more now then he had been in his entire lifetime, he wanted to ask questions but he figured the answers were coming but he knew not soon enough.
As they ran he could hear more explosions and what sounded like heavy gun fire not far behind them. He was scared, he didn't know what was after them but he knew that what ever it was gaining ground. Panic was beginning to set in, he was worried about his family and wondering if anyone had survived. He promised himself that after all this was over he would go back look for survivors.
As the factories began to come into range, he could see the black smoke stacks, rusty imulsion drills and processing plants. There were abandoned satellite casings everywhere. "This must be where they began building the imulsion satellites after the Pendulum wars," he thought to himself in shear amazement of the quantity and quality of the designs.
Charles trusted Jessica and kept following her blindly through abandoned factories and dislodged mining equipment, he didn't understand what was driving her but it had kept him alive and for that he was grateful. Her pace began to slow as they came to their unknown destination, or at least to him. He could see that they were standing before an imulsion processing plant, and as they began to enter, explosions began to shake the district and he caught a glimpse of what had been chasing them.
A horde, of lizard like creatures, with gigantic spiders, and sadistic looking dinosaurs. Jessica began to run again as the smoke stacks began to explode and crash towards the ground.
"I knew it! We should have listened. God, maybe we can still make it in time." She said to herself while dodging falling bricks and large pieces of steel. "Charles we are almost there, don't stop running!"
He had no intention to, in fact he began to push himself harder then he had before their lives were at stake and what ever was going to be in front of them had to be better than the horde following behind.

I like hows its not necessarily about soldiers. It seems the Enforcer makes it kinda policeish and that is cool.

Chapter 2
Quote:
Charles' doubt was beginning to grow with each passing moment, "How could I have left his entire to family to die? Why didn't Jessica at least try to help them too, and where is she leading me?" his thoughts also walked him down a path the he would never venture again, "I wish I could have died with them. It would have been better than running from a horde malicious bloodthirsty monsters."
A fist flew, and knocked him to the cold cement. Charles was dazed and as he looked up at Jessica, he saw how her complexity had changed from ghostly white to a blood red. Jessica had never struck him, and he knew something must have really pissed her off. Then it hit him twice as hard as Jessica's fist, "I was thinking aloud."
"Damn right you were, I didn't have to bring you here but I did! And you are thinking that dying would be better than this. How dare you!" The anger in her voice echoed off the empty pipes and cold brick walls. "You are dishonoring the fallen, they died so you and I could live and you want to back and join them? What is the matter with you!? You know what, if you want to be with them so badly you can either wait here for those things to catch up, or you can come with me and live? Make you choice."
Charles was stunned, he had never expect her to show so much passion about a family that wasn't her own. He was hurting inside but some how Jessica's stern words, had broken through the pain and made him realize the gift that he had been given. His life! He stood up and hugged Jessica.
"Thank you," he began to cry "I am sorry, I wasn't thinking about it in that way." He wiped the tears from his face that were running like torrent river, "lets get the hell out of here." Jessica smiled and nodded in agreement, as a barrage of missiles pounded through walls they had just come through.
Once again they began to run, without any concern for their own well being. The look on Jessica's face was a determined one, one to survive and to bring her lover to safety. Then she saw it! The door! Jessica grabbed Charles and pulled him along.
"It's just up a head, hurry we don't have much time."
When they reached it, Charles saw that it had an electronic lock and shadows lurking from under the door. This only added onto his confusion, while Jessica frantically pushed the numbers on the keypad and the door slowly began to wedge open. They had not gotten more than fifteen before they were greeted by two huge shadowy figures.
“Identify yourselves” stated one coldly with a Lancer poised and ready, as he stepped into the light. Charles could see that, he was an C.O.G. Enforcer like Jessica, but his armor was black as night, and heavier too. His face was scarred and tattooed, there was also evidence of imulsion burns. Jessica stepped forward and stated.
“I’m Major Jessica Anderson and this is my 2nd in command, Lieutenant Charles Gilbert, if you don’t move I will kill you where you stand.” She was shaking because of the quakes, explosions and the fact that Charles was only a simple engineer, but Jessica carried herself well enough to convince the Enforcers otherwise.
“My apologies, Major. They are waiting for you in the bunker.”
“Thank you, as you were.”
Another door opened behind the enforcers and they hurried through. Charles was stunned that Jessica's lie had actually worked, but he was glad it did. Just as the were pasted the threshold the door slammed shut behind them. The sudden jolt of air made the hair on Charles' neck stand.
"Well, I guess we go forward" as he looked at Jessica with a scared smile.
They continued down the long corridor filled with black pipes and faint lights, a certain eeriness had overtaken Charles, who still didn’t even remotely understand what was happening. The world was still shaking and exploding, Charles could hear heavy pounding on the doors that they had just come through. This made adrenaline rush through his body with a new fervor, and made thoughts of his family to come to the forefront of his mind but he didn’t want to think about that situation again. There were a dim set of lights at the end of the tunnel and voices that could be heard as well death destruction behind them. But one male voice could be heard better than any of the others.
“God damnit, how the f*ck did they emerge without us knowing it?" hollered the voice from an aging veteran, "Your dumb*sses better come up with answer soon! People’s lives are at stake! Where in god’s f*cking name is Major Anderson?”
A young corporal took the opportunity to answer, “Sir, Major Anderson is at her engagement party. But, Colonel, I don’t know how where it was being held, or even how far it was from here, but we lost radio contact when "they" began emerging. We believe it has to do with one of their creatures, Sir. For all we know Sir, she is MIA and possible KIA.”
“An engagement party are you f*cking kidding me corporal?! The world is about to f*cking end and the head god damn f*cking project is at an engagement party! And now you are telling me that we have lost radio contact?! I swear if this situation gets any worse than it already is we are shutting this sh*t hole of a project and evacuating to Jacinto. And we don't hear from her in the next f*cking five minutes, I am going to have my foot so far up your as…” Just as the Colonel was about to finish Jessica busted through the door, but not before telling Charles to stay in the hall and stay quiet.
“Colonel Hoffman, I am here, Major Jessica Anderson reporting.”
Colonel Hoffman was pleased and pissed at the same time, he was glad that the C.O. of the project had actually shown up but pissed that he couldn’t beat the sh*t out of the up start corporal. The colonel knew more about was going then he was going to lead on but he sure as hell wasn’t going to let this small group of officers know.
“About f*cking time, what the f*ck happened? Did you get lost on the way here? Or was the d*ck so good that you couldn’t get it out of you in time to leave before all hell broke loose? Well Major, I'm waiting?” He figured this would be the ticket to hit the right nerves and get the answers he needed. He hit nerves alright, but they weren't Jessica's.
Charles who was waiting in the dark corridor, couldn’t take how this Hoffman character had degraded his fiancée and so he decided to step in and speak his mind, though his rare emotions were being driven by the testosterone and over secretion of adrenaline. He busted in the room without thinking and pointed his finger angrily in the Colonel’s direction.
“How dare you *sshole, who the f*ck do you think you are. You know what I don’t care, I am going beat your f*cking *ss right here right now.”
Hoffman was stunned for two reasons, first of all there was the civilian in a top secret area. And secondly this upstart actually stood up to him, he figured someone had to let him in and instead of acknowledging him first, he reach for his side arm and pointed it right Charles.
“How the f*ck did you get in here, and choose you words carefully cause you pretty face depends on it?!” Hoffman stared coldly into fiery eyes of this hot head young man. He smirked as Charles began to realize the predicament he had gotten himself into with his rash actions. He panicked and broke his glaze with Hoffman and tried to consult with Jessica, who was trying to keep her composure and dig up the courage to stand up to her C.O., and finally she snapped.
“Colonel, No! I brought him here! This is my fiancée, and I apologize for his outburst and for bringing him here but he is all I have left even though he is still lost in this god awful sh*tty mess.”
“So, the d*ck was so good that you had to bring it along with ya? You f*cking slut how dare you. You have just put this whole project and operation at risk! Maybe if you had spent more time working with the f*cking project we wouldn't be in this, God damn…!”
Charles interrupted, “Will someone please explain what the hell is going on, and what the f*ck this project that you keep speaking of is?” he spied a lancer sitting against the wall and once again he let his emotions get the best of him and he rushed it before anyone realized what was happening, he revved the chainsaw bayonet and aimed at Hoffman’s head. “Some one better start talking before I make Swiss cheese out of the Colonel’s ugly face.”
Hoffman now lowered is weapon, not because he feared for his life because he wanted the civilian to make a mistake so that he could kill him with his bare hands. Hoffman in a softer tone ask, “Well, is someone gonna tell him, them Locusts ain’t going to wait forever.”
