			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>The Mass Effect 3 Explorer project <a href="http://me3explorer.wikispaces.com/" target="_blank">http://me3explorer.wikispaces.com/</a> has made great strides to allow the gaming community to mod the game.  So far the primary mods are hi-res texture artists using the tool to beautify the ME series.  The biggest project is MEHEM (Mass Effect Happy Ending Mod) that utilizes ME3explorer tools to re-vision/re-write the ending of Mass Effect 3.  There is a push to try and add new content rather than simply re-purposing existing content but this is limited by a few key limitations of ME3explorer.  I have personally been working to modify character meshes with the ultimate desire to create even new/unique character meshes however, those of us in the ME community who swing this way are currently stymied by the inability to fully and properly place character meshes/skeleton meshes back into the game.  User WarrantyVoider has done the lions share of reverse engineering on the format of skms used in Bioware pcc files at the heart of the game.  He's managed to go a long ways but was finally brought to a halt by not being able to properly decode certain portions of game pcc files that encode character meshes.  The bulk of work on exporting and importing character meshes out of and into the ME games is done but now no longer has a coder working on the tough issue of what is left.  I post here in hopes that someone with the coding skills will be interested and perhaps try to run the baton past the finish line.  The ME3explorer coders are doing it out of personal interest, as a showcase of coding skill, as this is not a paid program.  It is hackers doing some cool hacking.  <br />

At this time it is possible to MOSTLY get body meshes into the parts of the game but due to the unknowns they don't quite work properly:<br />

This character's body mesh imported and in this case doesn't crash the game but the <b>lighting/reflection effects are incorrect</b> due to unresolved issues with the format needed in the game.  <br />

Using ME3explorer to export her head and then reimport it without alteration showcases some problems that need to be resolved (reverse engineered).  Massive texture mapping fail:<br />

In another scene the body mesh imports but contains errors that are not evident in 3ds Max, Blender, Milkshape, skeledit, umodel...They even import seemingly fine into UDK.  The issue is getting them into ME via the game pcc files.  We export the skm meshes as psks and edit them in the aforementioned software tools.  Easy part.  After that...<br />

Any attempt to proceed beyond this point in the game and initiate a conversation crashes the game - even in instances where there is no evident graphical errors at all.  <br />

Are there any coders here who are interested in the challenge of reverse engineering the rest of the way so ME3explorer can be a full-bodied mod tool for the ME series?  If so, please contact the coding team of ME3explorer (the link provided up top) or contact me so I can point you in the right direction.  Sadly, I am not a coder and cannot even begin to try to take on this project.</div>

I modified it slightly so that the gun barrel is separate from the turret, so the turret handles the yaw rotation and the barrel the pitch rotation, like a tank turret, for example.  I figured this would help out newcomers who may be trying to set up a tower defense, RTS, or other type of game.<br />
<br />
I included a simple model in 3ds Max 2013 format to show how to rig your own turret to use the included code and AnimTree. the model is crappy, since I am showing off the code, not the model. I compiled this using the July 2012 version of the UDK. Let me know if anything doesn't work.<br />

I'm afraid that, although 3d modeling and game design seem to come quite naturally to me, server administration absolutely does not. There must be a better way.  I have only one co-collaborator, but they live almost 2000 miles away.
