If Gears 1 was as animated as Gears 2 it would have the perfect graphics. Epic, whats stopping this from happening?

uh, Gears 1 uses Shadowing. The Unreal Engine is now capable of lighting. That's why it is brighter.

gears 1 was not dark because of the game tone. It was dark because of the limited engine.

Why would we want to back in time in terms of graphical tech?

Are you mad? I don't think it was even lighting anyway, the lighting interface currently used in Unreal Engine is a huge improvement on Gears 1.

It'd be nice if they added color filters like they did in GoW1. Where you had the intense option and all.
GoW3 uses a overlay as it is. GoW3 would look like Judgment's video with the bright colors - it just gets that grainy filter thrown over it -- absent in the GoWJ video footage we've seen.

They could add in a similar optional overlay.
Desaturating the color and upping the contrast. Can do this on your TV manually and looks great. Would be awesome of they added this as a option so we don't have to do it.

GoW1 (not GoW3 - typo) had the best "look" in my opinion. Yes it was caused by engine limitations. However it had that whole destroyed, dusty and dark feel to it because of that. RAAMs Shadow annoyed me in overall because it was so damn bright everywhere. It just felt like Epic was scared to use low light.
Having a filter like I suggested in my above post would be awesome. Wouldn't need to change any map lighting or anything - it would be a screen overlay and would give very close to the same effect.

Sounds like a decent idea to me, or EPIC could just start giving us more of a destroyed world 'spooky look' to the game like gears 1.
