Previous Horde Playlists from Day 1

Are you like me and a big horde player? Yes? Then GoW J should have "Horde 1.0"/"Classic Horde" and GoW3's "Standard" horde as well as the horde that Judgement comes with and all the new stuff that goes along with it.

Why you ask, I played a lot of horde from GoW2 and IMO nothing has beaten it since (Not even Gears 3 horde). I would play Gears 2's horde online still but finding a match in Ranked is 99.99% improbable and Social is not much better, This is why GoWJ should have "Classic Horde" from GoW2 and "Standard" horde from GoW3 (unless horde for Judgement is GoW3's horde just slightly better) so people like me can play what they want WITHOUT waiting hours to find a match.

So the potential playlist from Day 1 could be:

- Classic (For more info on Classic Horde, visit this Thread (http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/891565))
- GoW3 Horde (Renamed better, maybe horde 2.0?)
- Judgement Horde
- Space for event weekend horde (So it doesn't replace regular horde)
- ADDED DLC Horde (For when/if the game gets new maps)


Even if Classic horde doesn't get its own playlist, it should at least occupy the weekend event slot during the week till they have to remove it for the weekend event. Also, "GoW3 Horde" should only be there if nothing has changed dramatically enough in the new horde to consider it New/Different enough for it to have its own playlist.

I don't believe so, I often get frustrated on not being able to play the FoN or even FR maps because everyone is in one pool of horde including the people who don't have the maps so playing the maps I have paid for is really rare.

I agree with this ^^^ because I played Gears 2 horde which had as you say more than ONE horde playlist and worked just fine till gears 3 came out and made it a ghost town so what I would like for GoWJ is just a classic playlist from day 1 otherwise I'm stuck to playing private horde still to try and replicate classic horde as closely as I can.

I don't think it would - OverRun caters more to Beast Mode players as there's no waves of enemies as such and no repairing fortifications (it's more like a Beast 2.0). I doubt we'd see a Horde 3.0 either, seeing as EPIC are limited with the current engine and will probably wait to do something big for Horde with UE4.

With Horde 1.0 and Horde 2.0, I wouldn't even say you're splitting the community 50/50. Horde 1.0 would probably only cater to 25% of Horde players as Horde 2.0 would likely be more suited to GoWJ maps. I doubt it would be an issue, and would simply add variety and fun to the game :)

I'd support two versions of horde (classic horde aka GoW2 version, and the new version 2.1 or 3.0) but nothing more. I highly doubt that horde will be significantly different in GoW:J than it was in GoW3.

Yeah, I had suspicions about that in the same way. GoW:J horde can't be that different to GoW3 horde so maybe it will be the same and the playlists will be:

- Classic Horde
- Judgement Horde
- Weekend Event Horde

Im hoping for a more classic mode. I don't mind the fortification mode but its not nearly as exciting as horde 1.0

Gears 3 delivered a lot of good. More good than bad IMO. I mean ya the horde 2.0 isn't that exciting but with the exception of the cash system and stupid cha ching noise its much smoother than horde 1.0 in terms of connection and graphics and gameplay.

I wouldloveto see a horde 1.0 return but with random waves and the ability to plant shields in between rounds without them dissappearing.

Oh and if they do just up grade horde 2.0 at least give us an option in between rounds to skip to the next round or say press X when we are done fortifying so if were done early we dony have to wait the full 30 seconds

Agreed, I rarely play public horde anymore, I mainly play private horde to try and play as close to classic horde as I can with a few friends but that quickly fails as lambent popup to ruin it.

Yeah the main drag for 2.0 was the 30 seconds and not being able to change it, I quite often just stand still for 30 seconds and get a drink or check my twitter feed while I wait. What kind of game makes you do that? I don't want to check my twitter feed between waves but its better than spending my cash on camping in a corner or buying a god damn silverback.

The guy who doin nothing but saves all money shouldn't be first place on scoreboard, it should go back to horde gears 2, top killer and point getter through all waves gets top total score not just who has the current most currency

Epic will not look at this thread, think "we messed up," and change it. Like it or not, you're way late to the ballgame. If Horde is even announced for Judgement, there may be a few changes, additions of boss waves, etc etc, but they're most likely already done with the horde aspect of the game. At this late in the development process, they're testing, polishing, fixing, and testing some more on the game. They aren't creating new things, nor are they taking suggestions at this time.

You get a free 30 seconds to calm down, and the money you'll spend on ammo or pick-ups is nothing, so you can't complain about that. It's that simple. Exactly, If they have already done it, then adding a playlist to the MENU which removes stuff rather than adds stuff then I dont think adding Classic horde is that hard especially seen as GoW3 has a classic horde variant (Which needs some tweaks) already which they could put in place any weekend they want.

I don't think you understand the term "splitting." If you take a playlist and split it into two categories, there's going to be a slit in the community. It doesn't always carry that negative connotation you may be thinking about, but it splits the community nonetheless. Some people will play Online "Classic," some will play Online 2.0, and some will play Private. While the horde community is by no means small(heck, I think they might even be bigger than the whiny versus community as a whole), splitting up groups by creating a variant that you could easily implement yourselves is pointless.

I still disagree and I understand FULLY what your idea of the splitting the community means but giving options to the community this isn't splitting them. Its giving them more variety. With your idea what they really should do with MM then is cut every game type back and just force us to play TDM....sounds like a great idea

Give people variety choices what they want to play in a day or in a game. Having one option to play a game one way is just plain boring. In MM I play KOTH most of the time. I getboredof that and have many options to play something else. I used to play nothing BUT horde in gears 2. If I had the options in gears 3 to play it a different way id still be playing horde all the time along with the people on my FL that dont play gears anymore.

Incorrect, You can not play classic horde in GoW3 due to lambent, new weapons and the fact you would have to play alone (maybe with 1 or 2 friends) and not have the full 5 as people online WILL ALWAYS buy fortifications.

Also a Classic horde playlist would not take any room on the disc, only the option in the menu that says "Classic Horde" but that would only take a few KB if that. To get classic horde, all EPIC have to do is make a variant that is like Gears 2 horde enemies/fortifications wise and not actually ADD anything so memory is not an issue for the disc.

I used to think the gnasher wasn't really a horde weapon but after continued experimentation and practise I've come to the conclusion that it's prob one if the best weapons to hav on your person. :) 3 and 4 shot active reload kills on grinders and boomers. One and 2 shot kills on drones, therons etc, awesome!

nah your not the only one. I hate the horde 2.0.Im fine with lambent and stuff you need new enemies but why break something that wasn't broken?? The cash system is awful and Im really hoping they add in a button like COD's survival mode that lets you bypass the timer if the team is ready.

There is no such thing as splitting up the community. Look at MP. one could say they are split up because of all the different game types. Just consider "classic horde" as a different game type under the horde category.

The community is already split up in my eyes, those who play public and those who play private, like me for example, I play private to try and get as close to the "Classic" experience as I can.

I know what you mean, It was good at first because it was new but once you get past the shell of it all it is just .... bleh.

As much as I hate the weapon in MP, I'd say the Retro is my favorite weapon in horde. It kills grinders etc usually in one clip and if it doesn't then you can just melee them after to finish them. Just practice with and you'll see the results I always get when using it.

However, what I'd really love to see is a mode that allows you to edit what kind of waves of monsters come at you, what poisons will they carry, and what skill are they, or what kind of weapon spawns are on the map. I liked the days when game play had more of a flexible feel that let you do what you wanted to do, as well as what is given to you, for a real endless fun time.

As for the people with the opinion against any other options, I ask why not? Why not just throw in the option and offer the simple refreshment of choice? I don't see how it could possibly "split up" the community in any other way then letting people go to their preferred lobbies. It would only expand upon the mode itself, and prevent people from being bored of the same old same old.

I'm hoping that any future horde's will bring back the intensity and difficulty of Insane Horde on Gears 2. Horde 2.0 was a massive disappointment and when played properly for the top scores was an absolute bore. Forget money and fortifications, forget downing drones for extra points. Spotting however, nice touch but remove scoring for spotting so it's not necessary to spot everything to get top scores. I miss being able to get headshots on drones etc without them having been downed and spotted first or being able to fire Boomshot at a crowd of unspotted stuff and revel in the body parts flying everywhere without feeling like i'm letting the team down. Classic Horde for the win.

Oh and i almost forgot since it's been so long since i played Horde 2.0, forget the Silverback too. Makes it too easy and boring for everyone but the pilot.

It's not possible to do online as the random you play with buy fortifications and playing private gets boring on your own or even with 1 or 2 friends.

I like the ideas of classic, judgment, social and dlc horde. However, what I'd really love to see is a mode that allows you to edit what kind of waves of monsters come at you, what poisons will they carry, and what skill are they, or what kind of weapon spawns are on the map. I liked the days when game play had more of a flexible feel that let you do what you wanted to do, as well as what is given to you, for a real endless fun time.I like this too, although I don't know, there might be memory limitations that circumscribe the amount of control Epic could give users. It'd be neat if you could toggle basic stuff on/off like fortifications and Lambent. Maybe they could have a few pre-set Horde flavors, selectable per game or per wave, like choose "Huge Variety!" or "Biggest Monsters!" or "Drones-Lots of Drones!" Closer to being an extension of mutators than matching the robustness of Halo Reach's Firefight options. I'd be happy if they just save purchased fortifications during host migrations and implement some kind of social Horde and DLC playlist.

Horde community is already very small (in public, at least).
Weekend event horde should be universal across all Horde modes, just like it did in Gears 2 and 3.
Gears 3 horde playlist isn't necessarily, Judgment will probably just improve Gears 3 horde.
I would like to see
-Horde (Judgment)
-Classic Horde (No fortifications, no bosses, no Lambent or Savages)
-Horde DLC in either Judgment or Classic style. (No special playlist, it's just randomly decided whether to go with Classic or Judgment)

And everything has to be Social, not ranked. (Drop in during mid-game)

I say include classic Horde, if for no other reason than it's too easy not to. They've had classic Horde as an event on GOW 3 in the past and if they can change it for a weekend, they can have it as a permanent option. Throw in some different achievements/challenges for the two modes and you will get Horde players to play both I guarantee it.

I've had all the dlc maps but I almost never get any of the maps as a choice on public and I've completed about 13 000 waves. Friends tend to start private games on those maps and I'll join in :)

Because the fortifications, ammo drops, "Challenges", upgrades, command centre call-ins etc in my eyes make it waaaaaay too easy and thus making it boring and no challenge, 1.0 horde you at least had to run around the map at the end of each wave and pick up ammo from dead bodies and the weapon pick ups were FREE. I haven't bought a weapon in 2.0 in such a long time I can't even put a date on it as that is how long ago I actually bought a weapon.

Now I would continue to play 1.0 on GoW2 but literally ZERO people play it and none of my friends play GoW2 anymore so I'm stuck playing GoW3 horde and why 1.0 wasn't a option (at least in Private) to play from release IDK but Judgement better have that option. I love the rush of Gears 2 horde running about the map all time and scared ****less when im the last guy and I have 5 cyclops's (when they were a threat) chasing my ass trying to chainsaw me.

Memories I can never relive in GoW3 unless they bring back Classic Horde in Judgement or have another classic horde weekend event.

It'd be nice if Horde returns the bots will be the same as Gears 2, for example where Grenadiers down you up close and follow an execution instead of downing you up close and just walk away. and when Grinders aim and shoot their Mulchers at teammates, it doesn't seem like you take damage when getting in the way.

The only thing I care about is being able to bring a splitscreen guest into public (matchmaking) horde. This existed in Gears 2 (Social Horde) but was sadly not in Gears 3, and I think it basically ruined public matches.

It's more popular than Warzone, Execution, Guardian and Wingman put together, plus Horde was the backbone of Gears 2 and without it a lot of people wouldn't have bought Gears 3... So I do believe it is popular enough to justify giving more than 1 playlist in Judgement even if it is just the DLC playlist.

Epic might change it a lot, even change its name, but something like Horde is bound to be in Judgment. And two or three playlists isn't too many. This is an after thought but do u have open, mod or strict connection? I've had mainly moderate and strict recently and if the host quits out sometimes then wen the level restarts I'm playing alone. I'm guessing because none of the other players have a connection that will support hosting. Could b this maybe?

I fear that perhaps the freeze issues that plague horde in both 2 and 3 may just be the death of it. Split screening horde in GOW2 was a definate risk of profile freeze corruption (happened to me 2 times, my wife 3), and GOW3 has freezes available to anyone who is a regular insane horder. Sad, but true, and it may effect hordes return I fear...

Usually freezes for me on wave 49, so I don't get to play wave 50 and no long hauler ribbon......Not nice.

In reality, there was a large group of us all trying to post top 100's on the leaderboards who all suffered heavily the freeze issue until many of us just put the game aside. Suck to be on wave 40+ working on a 1mil score just to have the game freeze...take up to 3 hours to play all the way on insane with 3 hards, and to put the time in just to lose it all for nothing can kill motivation to play the game at all....

Yeah, as far as i'm aware the freeze glitch can happen in any game mode at any time if your xbox crashes.

Seems most every mention of horde for GOWJ turns into a discussion over the "freeze". I guess I am just one of the blessed few, because I rarely ever have that problem. Not saying it hasn't happened, but it's rare for me. It seems to happen more when I'm playing with those from the UK or Germany, but usually happens to them-not me. My biggest problem is the lag. I don't see why Horde wouldn't return, 2 studios are making Judgement meaning that EPIC the studio making all the non campaign gametypes including horde have waaay more time to spend making horde and hopefully making it better.

It would be foolish to spend all your time making the multiplayer and not make Horde or Beast especially after showcasing Overrun, a game mode that combines both Horde and Beast together then screw over the Horde community by not making it.

I support this idea. This would really get me excited for Judgement. As a Horde lover, Horde in GoW3 kind of left a bitter taste in my mouth due to all the oversights. I know they are revamping versus, but they need to revamp how they handle Horde also. Can't have what happend in GoW3 Horde again.

I personally doubt it as I STILL think Gears 2 horde is better (Maybe because it's more challenging for various reasons) and would still be playing it if there were people playing it still.

Overrun - A combination of Horde and Beast in a L4D competitive multiplayer style I have no interest in playing

Overcome/Overwhelm or whatever - Endless time based horde, maybe so long as it doesn't replace wave based it'll be a good laugh.

Your purchase or lack thereof means nothing in the grand scheme, trust me the lack of horde will do little to nothing to hurt the sales of judgment especially since as we already know there will be some form of coop. Its either gonna happen or its not and that's the bottom line.

It is still wrong to not include it if you ask me, Horde wasn't the first survival game mode out there but it was the mode that made it extremely popular. Because of it popularity, other games made their own versions of Horde but with there games twist such as Firefight from Halo, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot from Borderlands 1, Call of Duty's Zombies, heck even full arcade titles came out based on horde like the "Zombie Apocalypse" series. So to me, it makes no sense to take this new game and think "F*** horde, let's make a co-op mode that won't be nearly as instantly nostalgic as Horde was and call it a day".

Recently Halo series took out Firefight in Halo 4 and there is a massive uproar about it and a petition going round (That game devs/companies never listen to) to bring it back because there are to busy milking there planned DLC and starting work on the sequel. Spartan Ops, the answer to firefight, massive waste of the disc if you ask me, it is only good to play through once and they can't keep that up for very long before people catch up to my thinking about it seen as all they do is give you like 10 levels then recycle them with a slightly different story each week. My point is, sure have the new game modes if you want but don't get rid of the old until you are sure that the NEW is what everybody wants and you can't do that in one game, (2 tops).

As far as I know;

People Can Fly are making the campaign and EPIC are making the multiplayer/co-op modes for Judgement. Now with 2 companies working on the same game, it has obviously allowed them to speed up the process of making it hence why Judgement is coming out next spring apposed to late 2013/early 2014.

With EPIC focusing on the MP side of things, It would be foolish to not include horde since not only do they have the time to make it but also to dramatically improve it and maybe include some if not all of the suggested options (http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/905842) that me (and some of this community) have come up with.

Now, I'm not saying that Horde makes Gears of War now since its inclusion in Gears 2, but it now does make up a hefty chunk of the game and that chunk (of which I have now placed myself into) I reckon will not buy (at least not at launch) Judgement if it does not have horde mode.

On topic, With Horde mode included, it should have more than 1 playlist from launch even if it only a temporary one that activates at weekends allowing horde events to not over rule standard horde match making.

I'm hoping that any future horde's will bring back the intensity and difficulty of Insane Horde on Gears 2. Horde 2.0 was a massive disappointment and when played properly for the top scores was an absolute bore. Forget money and fortifications, forget downing drones for extra points. Spotting however, nice touch but remove scoring for spotting so it's not necessary to spot everything to get top scores. I miss being able to get headshots on drones etc without them having been downed and spotted first or being able to fire Boomshot at a crowd of unspotted stuff and revel in the body parts flying everywhere without feeling like i'm letting the team down. Classic Horde for the win.

Oh and i almost forgot since it's been so long since i played Horde 2.0, forget the Silverback too. Makes it too easy and boring for everyone but the pilot.

Horde 1.0 everybody would just kill everything quickly as possible and you gained satisfaction from this the locust were powerful you feared even a single drone or sniper, and when you beat a map on insane you know you are one of only a few to accomplish this task. It wasn't a matter of score it was a matter of survival

Horde 2.0 the silver back kills everything and the other 4 players responsibility is just only spot enemies for the extra points. and because survival is so easy (even on insane with 3 hard mutator) the only real reason to play is for score as beating maps is not hard. and like rattle said above, I miss 1 spot and you feel like **** because 70 point is actually 227.5 points and this is all that separates some scores and 4-5 hours of spotting.

I'm not sure you realize just how big the Horde community is... If they removed Horde from Judgment, I would rent the game, but not buy it, and the same goes for 6 of my friends that play Horde regularly....Horde mode is the selling point for us

Not a lot I can tell you, but the people that are still playing are playing because they have found 1 or 2 MP playlists they like and have stuck with it, then there are the horde players (which is a larger audience than you think) that keep playing horde and is the ONLY reason they still play it.

Its like taking out the MP leaving nothing but the campaign, Horde and Beast. YOU would complain but I wouldn't care because I could be like "Other games are out and Gears 3 never had that many players in the MP anyway". You would make counter points and fight for a classic MP like what have already because that is what YOU play, doesn't mean to say everyone else wants to play it, they want to play Horde/Beast.

Bottom line is, the horde community is strong and has whittled out the people who only played it just to try it and we are left with just those who love playing it. Take Horde away and you WILL lose a good portion of players who will buy Judgement. Im starting to get scepticl on horde. With all the new changes EPIc fels since they've closed the chapters on the first trilogy they can scrap everythoing and start fresh. Where this is fine i sincerly hope and pray that the horde returns to full strength.

It sounds to me more like a secondary version of OverRun. Making me think it's completely different from Horde. Unless I'm an idiot and am looking at the wrong thing.

Im starting to get scepticl on horde. With all the new changes EPIc fels since they've closed the chapters on the first trilogy they can scrap everythoing and start fresh. Where this is fine i sincerly hope and pray that the horde returns to full strength.

Just playing horde the past few days has been fantastic. All locusts no pesky lambent. Im having a great time feeling like gears 2 horde again. But like I posted before no o horde no buy.

EPIC by all means can put lambent in horde for gameplay purposes if they want just as long they give us the ability to customise how we play so we an turn them on or off in private matches as well as a load of other things.

It sure is At least I have some interest/passion for what I believe in and keeping this thread alive by reposting in it is a small way I can show that unlike "rant thread 27463" that you see once, gets locked and never hear from again. I always try to reply to the people who post in my threads if I can as I don't like abandoning things or seeing peoples time who post go to waste with no response of the OP or other member at least.

Now that campaign has these DDS (Dynamic Defence Scenarios) it could be a replacement for Horde. However the DDS moments in campaign (from what I've heard) are nowhere near as long as or in-depth as Horde is (I think you only have sentry turrets and barriers).

Unless there's an option for you to replay each DDS moment for as long as you can in a survival type mode. Which has been hinted at.

This is a real shame. The popularity of Horde in Gears 2 showed that a lot of people just don't like playing multiplayer against other people, but would rather play in cooperation with others. In Gears 3, Horde just seemed to get abandoned with no Horde on maps playlist. Kind of leaving it up to the individual to find friends or play by themselves. Isn't the point of match making to put people together? Hopefully people who bought the maps so they can play together. Thats what I thought anyway. Now totally abandoning Horde would really suck. Just my opinion.

there's still that yet to be revealed coop weve heard about, it may be horde with a few differences at least I hope. I've never been a big fan of horde but I wont deny I've had a lot of fun on it and I'd like to be able to continue to have the option to play it, hopefully this coop mode will deliver

Im with you on that im not a versus player in online games aint my thing im more co op orientated and horde was one of my favourite modes for that. Terrorist hunt was pretty cool in rainbow six 2 even gorrila mode in future soldier could have been damn good if they added a matchmaking system for it like they did in terrorist hunt.

Potentially leaving horde out has ruined the game for me I know over run exists but I dont want a 5v5 horde beast variant and I dont want to have to play campaign for a taste of horde with this DDS thing I want campaign to be well campaign and a co op mode that is a co op mode if I cant get horde then give me a locust hunt!! or let ubisoft make your game but tell them to add match making :-)

You mean the co-op survival mode they mentioned in OXM? Sounds to me like the ability to replay DDS from the campaign (so the campaign maps are essentially the maps you choose) but with infinite waves.

That's the same sort of thing with many hardcore Horde players. I'm sure it will be in, in some form (not OverRun), but I get the feeling it's not going to be the traditional 50 waves. See above.

A lot of people are convinced not all game modes have been announced as they haven't officially announced Horde mode yet, or at least the 50 wave, wave based horde mode we care about from Gears 2 and I guess 3.

epic you can change some many peoples minds by just answering the question is there horde. also i would rather have 1 horde and make it like GoW 3 horde, for me that is when i fell in love with horde, loved the idea of bosses and building fortifications ( even though i can have 20,000 or more and still not want to spend it). hope it has some new bosses (if it is in it and the same some what) since they will lose the Gunker and lambent zerker.

The slight hope is that it was confirmed on a thread statistically horde was the second most played mode in gears 3 close to tdm and far ahead of the other modes. Were not sure if that includes private if not then its even bigger as a lot play private as social is not available so thats impressive. So if they know this from their own figures you would think they would be a bit mad to remove it or not put in a bigger better mode or mix it up a bit... its a little ray of light the shutters could come down and block it all out but for now its hope.

Thats what makes me so upest about this game .
Its obvious now that Horde Mode is not in it.
They fear that people wouldnt play Over-run other than a few times if Horde 3.0 was available.

Well with all due respect, I don't see where Epic can go with Horde in Judgment. Therefore they may of thought, just like Execution, the fans can stick to GoW3. *shrugs*

Horde has a huge following though it was only just second behind tdm in the official stats and that may not count private matches. Horde matches take hours to complete and alot of dedication the players who run private matches put a lot of effort and teamwork in its equivalent to removing mp and leaving horde it may ve suprising the number of sales lost by removing a single mode especialy if private matches are not in official stats as horders are very serious people dont mess with there mode.

I get to play Judgement at a local GAME shop on the 13th of Feb, hopefully this game mode will be playable. If it is and its good and maybe modifiable to make it wave based (like proper horde) although I doubt it, I may buy the game earlier than I expect but once again, it has to be good before I make that decision.

I've seen more advertising in Canada for World of Tanks than I've seen for Judgement, and World of Tanks is free to play. Needless to say, Epic is doing it wrong.
