Okay, I have a few questions that hopefully you guys could answer. There will probably be one person who will write an essay for each question. :p So here goes:
1.Why does everyone use Baird/Classic Baird? I know people used him in Gears 1 but what is so special about him? (Is it his sarcasm and quotes?) (10 marks)
2.What exactly is CSHD/SSHD, any why is it CSHD needed in Gears 3 if there are dedicated servers? (10 marks)
3.Why does sponging happen, and why is it so frequent to some people? (10 marks)
4.Why, when playing online, am I often playing with people from Mexico, Germany, and particularly France? I live in the UK and I don't understand. (5 marks)
If you know the answer to any of these questions please answer, I don't need detail (would help if you can be bothered) but would like a general understanding of it. Thanks.

1) Baird was the only character who made no sound when rolling.
2) CSHD means client side hit detection. It tells the host when the bullet was fired, at what, and where. SSHD is Server side. If the game is laggy, you have to lead your shots to compensate. The reason CSHD is needed, if a person shoots a guy point blank and dies before the bullet animation actually fires, the bullet will still kill an enemy. In SSHD, that bullet would disappear.
3) Sponging happens because of lag. It relies on your connection as well as the opponents connection. A sponge happens usually because your screen says he's at place "X" but his screen says he's at place "Y". So the full shot doesn't hit him.
4) UK shares servers with the rest of Europe. As for Mexico, only two things are happening. 1) They are in a party that the leader is in Europe, or it's a P2P match.

Baird is sarcastic, and has a lot of good lines. A lot of people used him from the previous games as well, leading them to continually use them in G3
Client Side Hit Detection, I THINK is when the client recognises the shots, rather than the players connection. Not too sure personally, I'll leave for other people lol.
Sponging happens because people don't have the best of connections to the Dedicated Server, so on your screen you are shooting at them, but on theirs they are already slightly past you. Leading to them "sponging" the bullets.
No idea. Gears' Matchmaking system is terrible for this lol. Think it just searches for quickest available games, as opposed to who has the best connection, it seems.

Oh right, A.Carmine's roll in Gears 1 sounded so funny. :D

It's a shame in my situation. I'm probably wrong but it just annoys me when I have a good connection, but I get sponged/updated etc by someone with a terrible connection. I don't lagg but due to CSHD I feel like people with bad connections are compensated. But of course, some people could lagg due to it not being their fault. I can see it being needed in Gears 2 but Gears 3 has dedicated servers which should help.

Damn, if it was just because of my connection this wouldn't be an issue with me! ;) So that's where CSHD comes into play, right?

Been in a couple of P2P matches recently, as the host some Scottish guy said I had a terrible connection. Makes no sense because I'm in England and my connection is pretty nice.
It seems like the people who sponge me the most appear to be French. Probably just a co-incidence, but a lot of my friends agree that the French sponge.

I see Classic Baird pro wannabe's often. :D

It's like dying and both people complaining, saying they hit the shot first? :D

What about when they sponge me when they are sat still against cover, and other situations?

Shame, I have a good connection but I still get sponged and stuff. I mean I have had games where my family have been eating my connection causing me to lagg, but all of my shots still hit and I sponge so much! I don't find it fun when I'm lagging, although I have the advantage so I quit. :D

CSHD is starting to annoy me more... I'm being updating from ridiculous times. Does CSHD also mean that if you have a bad connection, you still have an advantage? People are complaining about Mexicans.

I prefer to use mechanic baird but mostly for the stuff he says. Can't really provide anymore information on the other questions than what's already been posted.

When I lagg (uploading a video), my shots always hit. It may look like it's delayed but I can do just as well while lagging compared to having no lagg. Really must annoy people playing with such lagg. Wouldn't you sponge more if you were lagging?

Okay. What do you mean then when you said "It relies on your connection as well as the opponents connection" for sponging? I don't understand. :(

'Sponging' basically breaks down like this:
Player 'A' shoots Player 'B' at spot 'X'.
Player 'A' screen shows Player 'B' on spot 'X'
Player 'B' screen shows 'B' is on spot 'Y' to the left of spot 'X'
Because 'B' is no longer on spot 'X', CSHD still hits damage to 'B', but not enough to kill him, since he did not take the full blast.
'A' sees the shot hit and determines the shot should have killed 'B'.
That's all sponging is. slight visual lag between the players and the server where each player sees a slight variation of the incident.

You say that sponging is you shoot at X and they are at Y, how come we never see gibs that are completely off the target? Also, I don't think I have ever downed somebody when my shot didn't hit, when they seems to brush off multiple strafing shots

? this post confused me not getting what you said the only reason your shot should kill said person is if all your pellets hit. the person on your screen looks like he is in a certain spot but on his screen he is in a different spot due to latency once the servers read your shot he is actually not there meaning he moved. Sponging is not due to people with bad connections like most people think. In fact the united states does not have great internet service compared to most countries i think we are 53rd don't quote me in average speed. Ping is a lot of the issue person from lets say mexico since most people blame sponges on them may be closer to the server then you meaning his ping most likely is better then yours. There is a lot of factors that can be blamed for a "sponged shot". Ping, latency, distance, mostly from not all of your pellets hitting tho. Ive noticed more and more that im actually missing 2 of my pellets when i blame sponges.

The way it works is everything you do is basically an upload when you move, shoot, pick up a weapon. All this information is being sent to the host or dedicated server some may be lost due to ping then it is sent to him by this time he might have moved a little but on your screen you shot all the blood comes out. CSHD is go in some ways but bad n other ways CSHD help so you dont have the randomness of having to lead your shots like in gears if war 1 for example. Any little change in ping could make your lead smaller or larger making it very random CSHD cleans this up meaning there is no lead. There is a problem with CSHD tho there is a delay in all that is happening takes way to long for all the packets to get sent. Ever get shot behind a wall when you were clearly behind it? You can blame that on CSHD what it does it tell the future basically say you strafe right the CSHD will count an extra step so according to CSHD you moved 2 steps. Lag in video games is really hard to explain lol because there is just so much data being sent so fast its pretty amazing tbh.

This is a perfect explanation of sponging. I think it also has something to do to how well you connect to the server you get placed in if that wasn't mentioned before.
