Thank you to Epic Games.

Most definitely. I said it in another thread, but we're really privileged that Epic takes an interest in helping competitive Gears.

Yea, EPIC "helps" competitive gears and leave the casual game to hell.

I'm not trolling here(at least not intentionally), but I honestly believe that the competitive gaming community, not just Gears, is killing gaming.

I mean, I used to be able to hop on any game and play to have fun, knowing that everyone in the game with me was doing the same.

Nowadays, all I ever see...in any game, is people inspired by MLG kids to go out and pubstar, only playing for stats.

Sorry for the negative and possibly ill-placed rant, but I needed to get it off my chest.

Sounds more like a true skill issue, or how you get paired up against others in matches. In almost every game, Halo/CoD/Gears you'll be up against people who will do everything they can to win. That's just how it works unfortunately :\.

One thing admire greatly about halo is they way they divide up the different skill levels, but all games will get to that level eventually.

Ranked will always be filled with teams, casual or hardcore.

I don't know, I view competitive gaming as making as much sense as having competitive Monopoly.

But hey, to each his own, and I respect that.

Well monopoly isn't quite as complex, but people do start to get at each others throats, that's for sure.

Comp gaming was something I used to find really silly, why play video games for something more than fun? But after meeting friends through it and really seeing how people act in person at live events and just that community feel of coming together to support teams and watch your favorite games is something really different from most sports.

e-Sports is more accessible than regular sports. In regular sports you can wear shirts, memorize stats, and have a fantasy team, but e-Sports you build the community and relationships, you shape the game, and you work to create e-Sports. You help to mold it, instead of letting it mold you. Not that sports like football, baseball and so forth are bad, but you get to play a more active roll in the competitive gaming community.

For some people it's less of a hobby and more of a lifestyle, I love it.

Edit: And you can't tell me when you watch Day[9] commentate you don't get excited.

But hey, to each his own, and I respect that.I get what you mean. I see it more as adding a better background to it, though. I don't exactly go hardcore ALL the time at every game, but I do occasionally enjoy setting up a match against some people with full teams and really playing. Adds some meaning behind the fun, so it's not just "Oh well, I lost" or "Oh look, I won". It kind of gives you some pride when you win against others when you know it was even and you came out on top. For instance, hate going into Ranked and me all on my lonesome getting hooked up with 4 other random people who don't know each other without mics and having to go against what is obviously either a practicing team or a really tight-knit group of gears friends.

I actually follow a few of the guys in Team Amazyn, and while it can be entertaining, I see nothing but the negative side of competitive gaming. It isn't that I doubt that there are friendly players out there in the competitive scene, but they inspire people that I seem to always run across to play like their life is on the line.

P.S. the reason I follow zYn, arCtiC in particular, is because he'll post a competitive game of him going 1-4, but winning...something I feel is lost somewhere along the line. As long as you support the team in some way, shape, or form, you did a good job in my eyes. I feel that a majority of people who are into the whole competitive scene are all about the stats (not particularly the players, but the "fans")

I agree, I only knew about Amazyn before this and just today i've watched more competitive play than the last few months. This plus all the changes to the cam and the spectator modes means that Epic really want competitive play known.

You can't hate people for being inspired to play at their very best, that's a great thing. If you're looking for a more casual setting, quick match games are often associated with players who play for a similar experience, but I'm sure you already knew this.

Stats don't really mean anything - that's just an ego booster for online players, it doesn't necessarily need to be associated with competitive play or MLG. Those kinds of players have, and always will, exist. People who are really inspired by MLG players want to find or create a team and practice, which is usually done in private matches. Occasionally you'll run into teams or competitive players in Alpha, but that's because it mirrors potential competitive settings minus friendly fire.

and to continue this further the "real" MLG players actually don't try in ranked unless the other team is sweating. most of the time were sitting back in our chairs with our feet kicked up just joking around.
