I mean, it's only inevitable. :)

There was talk about it last year, but it was pulled pretty much at the last minute wasn't it?
With Hype just 9 days away, if the word gets out enough I'm sure there will be a big "hype" over gears (see what i did there) and will more than likely get it going in MLG soon.

How can team game like gears not be on it? Are people insane?

hopefully it makes it onto the circuit. Last time I checked gears was like number 8 on the top played games on xbox live. It was behind 3 seperate Call of Duty games and Halo Reach :(

Its mainly because of the small following that competitive Gears has from the casual player. The average Gears of war player just usually is going to sign on and play some ranked or horde and then get off. What makes games successful these days isn't necessarily about the quality of the gameplay, but more importantly the spectators, how entertaining the game is TO WATCH (we all know its so much fun to play) and developer support.
The competitive community has been hard at work since the end of GoW2 to try and really expand and change the way things were before. We feel like we have been able to make some great strides and the creation of this section is just more evidence to support that. All we can do now is keep working with Epic and giving them our feedback (all players, Pete and Quinn are really active on twitter and love any suggestions that will benefit competitive gears) and try to reach out to the every day players (the ones who don't visit the forums or watch any streams).

The game isn't as solidified for making it to the 2012 circuit as some of you may think it is. We're in a great position, but as someone pointed out GoW3 was #8 on Xbox Activity and MLG took note of that (largely due to 4 brand new releases in Saints Row, MW3, BF3, and Assassins Creed, but ignorance is bliss). Not to mention, general stream numbers on TwitchTV for Gears are much smaller than Halo and CoD at this point. As SunDown said, we need to continue to work as a community to grow and spread the knowledge as a way to create bridges between those casual player and more hardcore GoW players to increase stream numbers and grow this community. Producing content is a great way to do so!
GoW3 is hands down the best game and has the best community on xbox and we all know it, just a matter of getting everyone else to realize it. We're doing a great job so far, just need to keep working to grow and improve
Keep up the good work everyone

It'll make it in. The community for the competitive side of Gears is keeping it strong and I've known a lot of people who didn't play competitively are now doing it so that's a good step in keeping it alive, and making sure it'll remain in the circuit for a long while.
Not to mention devs like Quinn and Pete are in good terms with us and Sundance, while we really didn't have that in Gears 2 (or 1 for that matter). :p

Do any of the Top teams (MbN, AmazYn, etc.) Have any connections to top Halo/Cod players that would possibly be willing to plug some GoW streams on their streams? "Well I'm getting outta here, but if you guys want to see some competitive GoW head on over to....." There are a lot of Halo/Cod fans that would love GoW and would watch. Just a thought.

MbN just got picked up by EnvyUs, a top CoD team and really big on Youtube. They've been trying to help plug their content a bit. The Halo community really doesn't have any strong Youtube/streaming presences which surpass what we already have. Plus I think they feel a bit threatened right now that Halo won't be around much longer at MLG.
Current focus is to get people HERE interested, then we conquer the world. (Maybe some steps in the middle)

We have the connection to EnVyUs now and they're helping the community out in more ways than you can imagine, so thats a start

As much as everyone wants this, we cant assume for sure it will be on MLG's circuit. Remember MLG is a business, and adding a competitive title is a HUGE investment. MLG has obviously shown an active interest in the game, and EPIC has shown much support for the game on a competitive level, but the bottom line is it is up to us as the Gears of War community to show how much we want the game added. The best thing we can do is to continue to support the game through means like youtube, livestreams, tournaments, hypefestation, ect. The more activity MLG sees within the Gears community, the more they will want the game on the circuit.
The biggest thing is the community itself. Competitive or not, we are all part of the gears of war community. If the community ends up being divided as bad as it was in the Gears of War 2 days, we wont get anywhere.
And we also have Hypefestation. Worse comes to worse and MLG decides its not worth it to add gears right away, Hypefest will probably be the domain for competitive LAN Gears of War, so we do have a league to play in even if all else fails. However I would love to see both MLG and Hypefestation going strong in 2012.

Step in between: let's try to get some more content on Machinima with the GoW players that are partnered with them. *cough*K.L.*cough :)
The more we can use that bohemoth the better.

Well I disagree that CoD professionals will feel threatened, as the community is so huge, but I agree that Halo players are pretty scared right now.
If none of you follow MLG/Halo, Halo has been with MLG since day 1. Halo has also been the most popular game on the circuit. Halo Reach however was a big step down, and the community has recently been going through alot of movements to help the game's return, similar to what the Gears of War 2 community went through at the end of 09. But this is the first year where the Halo community actually has to worry about Halo not being included, so its a pretty huge deal.
But the major problem with Halo is the community itself isn't as commited to the game as the Gears community is. Other then livestreams and some youtube content, there isn't much activity within the Halo community aside from MLG events. With Gears of War we have really dedicated youtubers (myself included if anyone wants to check out my channel <3) who post content on a daily basis. Even when there was no gears on the circuit and no other league to hold gears, players like ArCtyC were still posting content all the time. Halo doesnt have that aside from a few pro channels such as Bravo's channel. Even TSquared, who was the poster boy of MLG Halo, isn't even helping the movement much aside his livestream (Which He probably gets paid to do) even his youtube channel has more BF3 content then Halo.
Now in Gears of War 3 even before MLG has made the announcement, we have huge movements like Hypefestation just because we love the game. There was no promise of success, no MLG stats to go by, but Hypefest took a huge risk and its been paying off on a huge scale. ArCtyC has his youtube with countless content, Falloutt has also been getting is youtube started, EPIC has been doing things for competitive play, and You just dont get things like this in the Halo community. As long as we as a community continues to do things like these, this game will be much much better off in the long run.

Depends on the game type. One reason I love KotH is because there's always action going on.

There are times when the game does get slowed down, but KotH is never really slow due to the demand from both teams and usually the camping team is going to lose in exe simply because they will end up giving up map position and control of the power weapons. Do you frequent some of the streams that are out there? I'd be interested to hear your opinion after you watch a couple of different streams. They are really entertaining in my opinion.

arCtiC wrote an article about budgetting based on his costs from the '09 season. Probably will do the job: http://reflectzyn.com/competitive-gaming/2010/02/26/budgeting-and-financial-planning-for-mlg-season/ This is an old article so prices have changed a bit, add about $25-50 to the flights.

I think the addition of comp. sub forums is really going to help rapidly expand the number of people interested in comp. play. I think the avg gears player just wants to have fun, and not really worry about putting alot into the game. However people are people and they will get curious about the sub-forums here. So hopfully they will let there curiousity get the best of them and click and have a look around. As long as we keep discussing things in a mature manner and show people that we are having just as much fun as they are. I'm sure they will at least give comp. play a try. Most of the time all it takes is a taste and people are hooked. haha :D

I have faith in the game especially since I know all of the Hype v1 stats and statistics, if it rises abruptly next week during Hype v2 it should be good we all have too work together too grow the game, tell people too watch throughout the weekend, explain too them what it is and do this for everyone!
