What is Patriots?
In 2020, a tyrant leader steps out from the ruins of WWIII. He leads with his own private military and promises to protect the people from danger and hunger. This promise is soon broken and the Patriots are formed.

Patriots follows the story of adrenaline junkie Max Swagger and British rock & roller Liz Freeman as they must shift gears from freedom fighters to hardened survivalists. The two will go beyond the lines of human punishment and will rely on each other to continue on in the dangerous new world and get to safety.

NOTICE: We are only developing a prototype demo right now. The reasoning is posted below.

Why Build Patriots?
I have been in contact with many many heavy hitters in the Triple A industry and many have guided me and given advice. Someone by the name of Vince Zampella has agreed to review a prototype if we were to present one and possibly send it to EA so that we can pitch it to them. Besides Mr. Zampella we have many other contacts in different studios including, Respawn Entertainment, EA, EPIC Games, Microsoft Studios, Gearbox Software, CodeMasters and more. Our aim is to create the best demo we possibly can showing off the very core of Patriots, displaying that innovation is needed for the industry and that Patriots can compete with the big boys of the AAA market.

What Do I Get?
There is guaranteed and possible rewards.

Guaranteed:
Solid Experience in the areas of your specified craft, working with a team, under deadlines and a bit of design.
Portfolio work to display your most recent skills.
Extra Practice to enhance your skills and a chance to receive help from others in areas you want to improve.

Possible:
Royalty Payment if the game is to make it to the public.
Career Opportunities for some and exposure to the people in the Triple A industry.

I don't have time to commit to something like this full time, or hell, even part time, but I'm quite interested in this endeavor. If you need a guy for occasional one-off programming, I might be interested. Skype: michaelallar

Wow. If all you do is story/ideas and you still managed to pull together 12 people with such extensive experience, I applaud you. That's no small feat.
Seems like post-apocalyptic is the new trend as well in the game industry. I enjoy it though.

Smart to aim for a prototype demo rather than a full-blown game. Good luck with your project!

Great thread, great info and amazing looking art so far! Where abouts are you guys in development, what kind of timeframe are you looking at to have smoething playable done?

Will you be looking for Voice Actors as well? Or perhaps additional writers or a Lead Game Designer/Project Manager? Anything along those lines.

AudioOutlaw

Allar, I will add you to my contacts. Let's talk.

infin, I handle the story and script, design, art direction, HR, community management and networking. I take care of the business stuff so the real talent can focus on the game itself. There must be a reason why these extremely talented people have joined. Also, this isn't just another post-apocalyptic game filled with dirt and rocks. This is a fusion that has none of the average things you would see in a game classified as post-apocalypic. I only use that term to describe it because thats what people know. Thank you.

ironbelly, We're still in early development. It's difficult because due to the mechanics of the gameplay real level design can't begin until we find programmers as well as the lack of environment artists up until recently kept things moving a bit slow. At the moment timeframe is out the window until we get a programmer.

Forever9209, We have already casted our characters. Our sound engineer lives in an area where it's easy to find actors all right next to his studio. The writing is already finished for this demo along with design and the manager position is already taken. Sorry about that.

Way to go with demo first.

I personally think that there is small chance that this game will be given all of its glory since its "seems" to generic specially if its for PC. I'm not trying to be offensive here.
Exaples: RAGE, Homefront => Really interesting but not executed right, not bad but not what would make people go crazy over it.

Its really hard to succeed nowdays. You have bo be innovative with GAMEPLAY MECHANICS.
One I see interesting is: "Utilize the environment to help you in surviving the dangers of fellow man and wildlife." if done right.

Best of luck. I'll track this project to see what will it evolve into. If things will go right, I might apply as Lead Animator if there will be a gap in 2-4 months if our current project will be finished.
Would be nice to see more teams like ones that are making Natural Selection II and Interstellar Marines. There was also another interesting game released few weeks ago I think; Renegade X.

I assume we will see demo in 6 do 12 months xD .

I'm sorry that you see our game as generic from the nutshell description that was given. Like I said, it's a very broad description that will give you a general idea. You've also compared us to 2 shooters. This isn't a shooter where you go from one firefight to the next in a single level. This is an action/adventure journey that takes you through many different difficult areas that will challenge your resources, your creativity, your conscience and your overall adventure skills (yes there is a bit of shooting that is involved with that)

Our team is informed of the difficulty of succeeding. Anyone who thinks that game development is easy, doesn't know about the industry. With that, the designing of this game took 2 years to not only make sure that the correct mix of mechanics came together properly to create innovation and newness, but it created unison between each feature. Obviously, if one of those innovations comes out and isn't any fun, we throw it out and do some more design to create harmony.

Please, and I'm asking out of respect, before you take a small amount of information and confirm it as truth, which you may not have meant to do, but it came across that way, please wait to see all of the facts about our game and my team.

Good luck to your team as well.

Is it just me, or did you guys lose a Concept Artist?

AudioOutlaw

Yes, we did lose a concept artist. We lost Izaak. We have another about to join us here in a few days.

Did he make any of the concept art on the indiedb page? And that really sucks.

He did the Train and the Street concepts.

I have to say, the music is good, but it is really lacking a strong punch, so to speak. I don't know, but for me it really just didn't resonate that well, but it is still progress and I wish you further luck in finishing other parts of the game too.

AudioOutlaw
04-13-2012, 03:38 AM
In your opinion... In your opinion it's lacking a punch. This song features action, heroicness, emotion, loss, power and more. It also shows the direction in which our soundtrack will go. So, it's fine you don't care for it. You can't please everyone when it comes to this kind of stuff, but everyone else who we "tested" this on before we made it public was blown away by this score.

Like I said, in your opinion it doesn't feature a punch, but to others it's perfect. Thank you for your opinion.

fragfest2012
04-13-2012, 03:56 AM
I didn't mean to sound harsh, I just wanted to give my honest opinion, and it is not to say it isn't good, because it is, it just seems, to me, to lack something. But, it may have been that I was listening on low volume too, so I will re-listen when I get time to and re-evaluate my thoughts on it.

Sorry for the confusion if there was any.

AudioOutlaw
04-13-2012, 04:02 AM
lol I know you weren't being harsh. I'm sorry if you found me coming off that way. I'm just saying everyone has different opinions and you can't please everyone. That's all.

fragfest2012
04-13-2012, 08:59 PM
Totally agree with that statement, it is impossible to please everyone and fruitless to try and do so. Regardless, good luck, I hope things are going well on the development front!

EDIT: Keep in mind that this isn't just another indie project. This is a shot at the AAA industry. We're building this because we have an in with some very important people mentioned in the OP. Keep that in mind...

Audio,

I'd love to chat if you'd be willing to take on a Junior programmer. I do work full-time but I'd be more than happy to do smaller projects for the team after hours and on the weekends. Only catch is that I'm new to the UDK. I'm an Enterprise Software developer for one of the US's largest healthcare IT companies. Started there right after college, about a year and 8 months experience in the 'professional' environment. Graduated from a top tier university with a BS in Comp Sci as well. If you're fine with someone learning UDK on the fly, I'd love to help.

Let me know if you're interested. If not, good luck man!
