Hey guys, here is everything we know about the game at the moment!
http://www.cinemablend.com/images/sections/37698/Fortnite_37698.jpg
-You need to scavenge for supplies and survive in the open world.
-Zombie like creatures come out at night and it seems you need to fend them off and defend your home!
-There is also a ghostly purple creature.
-You blow up buildings to scavenge supplies and build a fortress.
-You hole up inside your fortress at night to defend against the oncoming creatures.
-No platform announced as of yet!
-The stylized action game is actually hard to pin down to a single genre. It has various gameplay elements that vary by time of day. During daylight, the multiplayer experience will focus on building up a fortress through teamwork and sharing resources. This fortress becomes crucial when the sun goes down and the undead rise. It’s during this phase of the third-person perspective game that shooting zombies takes over - http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngaudiosi/2011/12/10/epic-games-new-franchise-fortnite-blends-survival-horror-with-tower-defense-strategy/
- Combines survival horror with "tower defense" like strategic gameplay
- Build a fortress during the day, defend and shoot zombies during the night
- Multiplayer (only?) experience
- Developed with Unreal Engine technology (not explicitly citing UE3 oddly)
- Similar to Minecraft more than the other games being mentioned (according to Lee Perry)
- No publisher yet (trailer was apparently used to catch the eye of publishers rather than gamers), which explains...
- Unclear on which platforms it'll release
- Unclear on what pricing model it'll use
-According to Digital Spy 'Describing it as a building and survival title similar to Minecraft'
-Fortnite will feature different mechanics depending on the in-game time of day. Players gather materials and build structures during the day to ward off the enemies that attack during the night. Resources can be shared with other members of the community.
-The game switches to a third-person perspective at night when zombies attack, and takes on shooter mechanics.
Tweets by Lee Perry
-I see lots of questions asking if #fortnite is freeform construction. It is. It's not scripted or just boarding up existing structures.
-#fortnite and it stands to reason if you can build a world, anything can be destroyed. That's about all I'm tossing out there for now :)'
-@fhilipk: You can thank @notch for some of the new followers.” haha, I thank him every day :). #Minecraft was an inspiration for sure.
-Question - “chance of weapon crafting/traps, lvl system, underground exploration, Boss fights, team survival mode, rare loot? #Fortnite” Answer - Chances? High.
You may want to add this, or parts of it.
The creators of Gears of War and Unreal came to Comic-Con today to finally talk about their next game, Fortnite, a "a co-op sandbox survival game," according to producer Tanya Jessen.
Jessen says the new property is about exploration, scavenging gear, building fortified structures and fighting waves of encroaching monsters hellbent on killing you and your friends.
"Building is really the core of the game," Jessen says. "Everything you find allows you to build and improve your structure."
Epic showed playable prototypes of the game, showing multiple ways players will be able to upgrade weapons — in this case a crossbow that can be outfitted with explosives and electric shocks.
Design director Cliff Bleszinski revealed during the panel that Fortnite would be the first game to take advantage of the company's Unreal Engine 4 tech.
"This is a PC designed game, shipping exclusively on the PC," Bleszinski said.
Maybe add this as well: https://twitter.com/therealcliffyb/status/223499640035737600

Seems to me like they are almost testing it out on pc first to see whats good/bad/popular.

The little goblin looking dudes seemed to be demons or something supernatural, glowy eyes and phasing in and out of the ground.

Is it me or does this look like valves Team fortess 2?
- Third person gameplay
Where was that said?
Not that I'm agianst 3rd person but you cannot really tell from just the trailer as it's filmed with a camera and is more of a matinee and doesn't show real gameplay yet.

This is just speculation.
I was thinking maybe the camera man or camera will play an integral part of the game during the day. It being the 'builder' as the Oracle was in Forge for Halo.
Just speculation, sometimes trailers have things in it that are essential to the gameplay.

Begs the question of whether or not Worlds can be randomly generated...because at this point, with near to nothing to go on, I'd still say it's pretty damned likely...

Have to say I agree with you...though it is mainly because I'm getting so damned tired of Shooters lately, hence the need for something Fresh and interesting, just like Fortnite...
I'm so damn hyped for this game! I'm playing MC as we speak.

Already from the little tidbits and trailer, I'm hyped. Going to be really fun. Co-Op is slowly taking away my interest from competitive multiplayer.
Hope it's 4 players, only noticed 3 in the trailers, but i'm sure they could fit 4 players into the mode.
If so, i'm sold, just the price will need to be something small for a game like this, depending on what they do with it.

What do you mean? What was the builder?
In almost every build type game that has some depth (not CoD Zombies type), there's is ALWAYS a camera system involved, where the player has full control to construct their creation. (Minecraft, Forge, Far Cry map creator)
In Halo 3/Reach in Forge mode, the Oracle was the builder, and served as a camera system. If you don't know what an Oracle is, if you ever played Halo, 343 Guilty Spark was an Oracle.
I'm rampantly speculating that the Camera will probably play an important role in Fortnite, as the whole trailer was shot through it. A good guess, is what I'm taking.
Good guess Karried!
Now that I think about it, it could have been a hint.

Good speculation. So the camera will enable you to leave your character and look around. I see, that's a pretty good speculation!

Just a thought: maybe it's one massive, massive world we all inhabit? So you can travel round and visit other people's forts and team up, or steal their supplies, or just walk round admiring what everybody else has built? Man, I'm getting more and more pumped for this game the more I think about it.

As much as it pains me to say it, I agree...as much as I'd love this game to be in Drive sooner, I don't think it'll even be gracing the Shelves for another year or so...but hey, a crap-ton of info would ease the pain...(!)

Definitely buying this! i can see 3rd person working like in gears... was expecting fps tho. wonder if the melee weapons are going to flow in 3rd person. I'm also pretty curious about the whole blueprint setup. Are these preset buildings we get to chose from or are we constructing these blueprints as well? will we actually be tearing apart a world (minecraft)? or is it more about looting (borderlands)? i've seen both games referenced to this one. I've never had so many questions about a game!
