ok so i start the game and find out that a large population of playlist are gone team deathmatch is still being superior over all with 10310 and my favorite one that is alpha is almost dead with only 1000 players the other playlist are kinda halfed too sooo is this because MW3 or is it the problem rod said they have with the numbers of people playing?

The majority of the population is kids/teens and they're still in school. Wait about an hour and the numbers will go back up

I would guess both are factors, and the second poster is correct also. A large amount of US players are still working or in school. Best case I would say the numbers may represent a ratio of how many players are in one mode over another but I wouldnt concern myself a ton with the actual numbers themselves.

You guys understand the population counters don't work correctly and only show your region, and even those are flawed

Flawed or not the fact is that they are dropping fast, also, it's getting harder to find a match.

They aren't dropping fast. The numbers aren't correct. The game is locked in spot 2 on the live rankings every week. The pop numbers aren't remotely correct so Im not sure where your comment is justified. how you know this with numbers that are wrong is impressive.

Matchmaking takes a few seconds forme.

I'll go with major Nelson's figures.

Standard Versus will always have more numbers than Alpha though. Why? Because it's easier. Alpha requires more skill (and a skilled team) to be proficient in. I'll play Alpha by myself, but if I get frustrated I'll move to Standard Versus. Even with the SOS, it's just easier because the skill gap is that great between the two playlists (then there's quick match which is the easiest of all).

People don't play other playlists only because they are easier. Many players including myself like the full Compliment if weapons and being able to spawn with the hb. that's a big reason for a lot of ppl.

No hammer burst load out is an issue.

This idea that alpha playlist players are more skilled I beyond idiotic. I find it easier than other playlists as a matter of fact.

Multiple reasons ppl choose certain play types. Dump the elitist attitude people.

Edit: I quoted you because you touched on it, it wasn't an attack so relax.

The game isn't 2, it's 4 and dropping:

http://majornelson.com/2011/11/02/live-activity-for-week-of-october-24th/

The numbers aren't correct but you have to think that they weren't correct in the past too, so we can compare them anyway, overall they are half of the beginning ones.

Look what it's behind, 2 of the biggest names in gaming. Cod and battlefield have followings double that ofgetaway, that is not a shock.

The figures aren't half of what they were, where do you get this info. You only see your region. My region he numbers are steady since release. You are just bowing out random state nts. At nights during pek hours the numbers in this region are as high as ever, bu that's all I can see.

I would wager the pop is where it's always been, it most certainly isn't down by half.

Sorry, my bad, I'm talking about Europe, London time, TDM was 20000 now it's 10000 (example).

To me it's a shock anyways, 2 old games of the same franchise on top..... I could accept 1, but 2? Whatever.... :(

Dude it's battlefield and cod. Those games have insanely huge followings. Gears can't touch that, few games can. Gears will never surpass that, epic said it themselves.

The amount of cod fans is scary

Haha. My region routinely has nearly 50,000-60,000 or so players a night in the week, with more on weekends, hell right now it has nearly 40,000 and it's midday w ppl working.

I think I see your problem. It's the Vizio. Clearly, there are issues and it should be showing at least 10k people on. :)

I've actually had the shortest waits in beast mode matchmaking this week since launch week. I'm not a huge Vs. player so it's been nice to not have to wait 10 minutes to find a match in beast mode.

Well KOTH ranked we are playing the same people constantly similar to the end of gears 2 so i would agree number on the counter or not, the population dropped, and there are a number of reasons for that. Sucks seeing diehard gear heads go over to BF or MW3.

The truth is that this game has alienated a large number of people that were long time Gears fans. The same thing that occured with Halo Reach is happening with this game as well. Also, people do avoid Alpha due to the difficulty, lie about it all you want but it is true. Similarly to how players avoid ranked playlists due to higher difficulty, the only difference in Alpha's case is the crutch weapons are harder to attain.

The numbers probably did decline somewhat. You have to add in some casual call of duty heads who bought Gears3 to bridge the gap between September and November. I'm a huge Gow3 head but I have been playing an insane amount of Gears3 since September 20th...It's nice to take a break and have MW3 as a nice complement to Gears3 when I want to just get off the game for a little.

Let the Cod craze die down a little..It's hectic right now and I'm sure most Gears heads have friends who are huge fans of the cod franchise so they bought the game to play with friends. Give the usual 4-5 weeks for MW3 to get old and back come Gears3 players.

Besides, I didn't really see my playlist numbers drop to much....Plus, Gears3 only has 10 maps available right now and they get old really fast. We already played 5 of them a lot before launch day. This free map pack on Thanksgiving will bring back a lot of old players as well.

You're wrong.

Gears 3 hasn't been number 2 since September. It hasn't even been number 3 since mid October. The numbers have been falling since release and took a huge hit when MW3 came out. I wouldn't be surprised to see Black Ops, MW2, and MW3 all top it in the next rankings.

Who cares about the playlist numbers overall, as long as you can find a team of 5 to play against in your preferred game type, that's all that matters. Right?

both. And other factors of course. Natural occurring peaks and lows, maye work or school, stuff like that. And I think the peak is around 9:00-11:00
