First week of the release I had a blast, but than I started to see the SoS being over used by players. My friends say the game sucks and are going back to Halo or going back to Call of Duty. I stood up for the game and said that its more balanced and that weapons should all be balanced. Oh how wrong I was about that. With MW3 out now more than 50% of the population that Gears 3 had is now just history in less than 10 minutes.

Being possibly the only one out of all my friends that doesn't have MW3 and sticking to gears, it's pretty much telling me to just forget about the game.

Yea sure Epic brought out Alpha and making it to where the Retro and SoS are now pick up weapons, but with a fast respawn time after pick up. Not after use like it is in the original playlists.

Yea I understand even with dedicated servers that there will be lag no matter what, but when it comes down to finally bringing out something that should have seperated the good players from the new than that no longer has a part in Gears 3. People with SoS chase me until I stop to get into cover and see them right there and just pull the trigger when it takes little to no aiming skill to get a kill with that gun.

Yea there are some of you that say you don't have a problem with the SoS. Eventually it will happen to you. Even if you are a rifle user it will happen.

I'm sorry guys I've stood by this game since the moment I first picked up that controller to play it back in 2007 and now I just have the feeling that my spirit to this game is dying along with my faith in Epic. :( I hate first person shooters, but if you go to my xbox live profile you see that I have CoD games in my list. It was because I wanted to see what everyone saw in the game. what made them like this game that was so different from Gears. Turns out I couldn't figure it out. Than again they couldn't figure it out what we all saw in Gears. Maybe it was because of the difference between 3rd and 1st person views, but who knows.

Epic if you are reading this than I would like to let you know that the game was fun the Campaign was great it was a great run, but what I expected in the MP wasn't. The game will possibly be going into my trade in pile along with Gears 1 and 2.

I'm a giant gearhead but I have to agree...They had the chance to make this game perfect. PERFECT!!!!!!!!

But instead, they made it extremely noob-friendly, buffed every weapon and ruined the gnasher, and made it a camping game...

Oh pull the wool from your crying eyes people, you're letting your frustration with a new game and different weapons get the best of you. Especially because your complaints are only small, everyday annoyances you find in EVERY game. Are you kidding me about Call of Duty and balance? You've never seen unfair tactics, weapons, perks, etc.? Don't fool yourself. And you realize you're all just filling the roles of the proverbial "that guy" right? So am I. For EVERY single shooter, there is this exact forum post and conversation a thousand times over. You'll all eventually come to this realization, and eventually make a post like I will one day, and you'll continue the cycle. Ride the spiral to the end, may just go where no one's been.

Well sh*t. I have been thinking about throwing this game in the toilet, but after being able to play it online again (which I'm able to since today midnight - weird- ) I'm not giving up on it. Sure, I won't play that often (I very rarely play only one MP game), CoD just came out and Halo Aniversary is going to be out soon and I'm maybe gonna get the BF3... Lot's of fun till at least the next summer. But I'm forever going to be irritated by the SoS and I'll never forget how Epic screwed up the entire story with the ending.

Or you could just put "countering the SOS" under the list of new skills to learn and get better.

I've played since 2006 and I have no problem with any of the new mechanics added to gears 3. If I die then its my fault or the other player was simply better than me.

I'm sorry op can't overlook these "problems" and add new skills to his skill base but such is life.

Hey, I was in the same situation when Gears 2 was out for a month or so. Stick with it. Also, meeting other people to play with isn't that hard. If you're having trouble, try and hook up with people from the forums. I wouldn't recommend going to another game because you're friends are, it doesn't work. I used to play MW2 after everybody I know bailed on me in Gears 2, but it just wasn't rewarding. There are two shooters that require a good amount of skill on xbox. Gears and Halo. That's what makes these games rewarding, when you kill somebody, you earned it, you didn't just shoot a grenade launcher across the map as soon as the match started.

What I'm saying is, Gears 3 is a really good game (I can say that now only because of Alpha) and you should stick with it. If you happen to not be very good at it (and that's preventing you from meeting people) you should look up strategies on youtube or watch scrims and try and imitate pro players (watch scrims though, not montages). Or play Gears 2, because if you can get good at Gears 2, you'll be great at Gears 3 (also, it's easier to wallbounce in Gears 2).

I didn't mean to go on for so long, and I assumed some things. But you shouldn't get discouraged because your friends are playing something else. Different people like different things. And if you like Gears, stick with it. Don't switch it up because you'll eventually get bored and come back to Gears in the future anyway.

I'm good at the game don't get me wrong, but just when it comes down to the question with some of the new guns I ask the question. "Where's the effort" When I get killed by a guy using a gnasher I say oh he was better than me that time have to change my game plan, but SoS Just asks that one question.

When I look at youtube on how others counter this gun its points out to rifle especially the retro. Which is something I could never adapt. I don't like the range fighting, but mostly the close quarters. I'll give gears a little longer so I can catch up on mechanics and things. With so many on the servers it tends to create quite a bit of lag. I would need more friends that play gears. Lol because i won't be seeing any of my friends on gears for a while. Thanks to MW3

correct me if i'm wrong, but EPIC agreed the SOS had a stupidly massive range on it and then did a server side change to make it closer to melee range.

sadly this doesn't apply in p2p games and i'm still getting pwned from 10ft when i think i'm completely safe and able to take them out with the Gnasher.

so "countering the SOS" isn't exactly cut and dry is it? when it has two different ranges, one on the servers and one on p2p.

it has ruined the MP experience of Gears. it's the easiest kill with a starting weapon in video games history!

i'm tired of seeing bad players with good stats. all from sitting behind a corner and then blindfiring when someone turns up to get a guaranteed kill. or running out at someone, pulling the trigger then running off. that isn't playing Gears. that's being a cheap, K/D obsessed chicken. i still don't get how it's fun.

and the best counters to the SOS on p2p are the Retro, which is a noob gun, and the SOS, which is a noob gun. so i'm not using them. anybody who does uses them because they lack skills. both guns are a crutch for poor players. or players who want a high k/d and will abuse noob weapons to achieve that.

why do you think nobody plays one-life gametypes anymore? cos of the SOS bs. why play a one-life game where you can play perfectly but get beaten on p2p by an OP SOS from 10ft and then sit out the rest of the round seething at the bs of it all?

i miss Warzone, i miss Execution and, most of all, i miss Wingman. 3 modes nuclear bombed by the SOS. completely destroyed. and all because Epic wants bad players to get kills. they could rescue those 3 gamemodes by removing the SOS from them.

Possibily going to the trade in bin? Why do post like this always say maybe or possibly? If you don't enjoy the game get rid of it as quickly as possible on eBay or worst case gamestop. Get as much money back as you can. Why are you on the fence about it, it is a video game. You can always rebuy it or gamefly it. It will probably be cheaper when you do or if you wait long enough you know a game of the year version is going to come out. So why wait?

I enjoy this game more than any other in the series. If I didn't it would have been gone already.

Every weapon is overpowerd.. Too easy to kill... Alpha playlist is much more fun but a lot of people just abusing the lancer.. Not even the Gnasher need much effort...

The sawed off can be annoying sometimes, but if you play smart you can easily fight it. Except in KotH where you are forced to try to go for the hill and get blown in half.
