View Full Version : Multiplayer is unplayable alone

Trying to play any Versus game type without a team, or at least one good player is the equivalent of hitting yourself in the head with a hammer repeatedly. Most of my close friends who have the game have left because of the SOS and the lack of the dedicated servers that the box promised us. Other friends who have it are not on alot, or have other people to play with.

Epic, do something to make the game more lone wolf friendly, either a Mercenary playlist (no parties) or True Skill matchmaking, which is most certainly not in place. I want to play this game, but I can't. Please do something about it.

Yeah I know. But I always play alone!! My k/d suffers greatly because of those matches where it feels like its 1v500. Your battling with 2+ and you see two of your teammates run right past you without firing a shot because they want the torque bow.. ignorance

Playing alone is an incredible difference than playing with at least one buddy.

I play by myself all the time. I get MVP 8/10 games and win about 8or9/10.

Maybe I'm just lucky or something but I seem to not have any problems alone. :)

If you don't like playing with scrubby players then.... don't?... I lone wolf it and unless i'm with people who seem like they've never played a shooter game in their life its never really that horrible.. There is a game every now and then where this does happen.. though but.. The amount of work they'd have to put in just to do what you asked is kinda out there... Its easier on them and you if you'd just get a team of buddies to play together?. or... campaign if you really like lone wolfing it so much xD

I love to play on:

Gridlock: I rush to boomshot/digger for control. I get jumped. Die. Then Ghost cam and see my teammates sitting in Boltok/Gorgon tower or inks.

Mercy: I rush for control of the higher ground (where OneShot is). Get jumped. Die. Then see my team camping inside at Nades (no they didn't snag Boom/Torque)

Sandbar: I rush to get boomshot. Get jumped (or sniped if it's a 1v1 there). Die. Then see my teammates fighting over Snipe. Melee'ing each other in anger.

Drydock: I rush Sniper/Torque. Get lancered/jumped. Clutch! Then get shot in the back. Die. because my teammates were not watching flank, they were at Boltok/Gorgon area

Checkout: I rush Digger/Snipe. Get jumped/flanked/retro'd. Wall bounce my way out. Get sniped by a special edition SOS. Die. See the rest of my team dying in electronics from 1 guy.

Thrashball: I try to control up top. Use my rifle once I control the mortar/mulcher area. Provide great support for my team. Kill 1 person. My team gets obliterated 1 by 1. Then I get hit with the SOS in the back. Die. My teammate kills himself with Nades.

Overpass: I try to control the high ground (Of course this is what you MUST do to win on this map). I get jumped 3v1. Die. My teammates are struggling at power weapon losing in a 4v2. They get multi-killed by a Nade. 1 survives!!!!! He tries to Retro Charge 5 people in a group. And gets his cap kicked back.

well there you go your stratagem is all wrong there... your playing relying on that your team might know what their doing :D... if your going to lone wolf it.. Team strategy is out the window... Being the Nice Honorable player is also thrown out the window. you gotta get grimy and dirty.. dont mean you have to resort to sawed of.. buut.. i mean if you wanna win then you gotta play to win.. Lone wolfing is lone wolfing... you can't rely on your team, and you especially can't expect them to be relied on.

If you're playing alone stick with the people that are grouping up and just act like you're part of the plan. Typically they appreciate the extra hand and won't mind reviving you for helping out, as long as you don't steal kills like a child. Using this method I've found that when I'm itching to play and my team is not around, I can still have a good time without getting prison sexed.

Two words: Quick Match.

It's so easy to pwn people in Quick Match for some reason. Most people don't know how to move fluidly, rush power weapon, and they also generally rush and/or chase after you (which you can work to your advantage especially if you know about right-hand-advantage).

Breaking news.... I just played a match on Old Town. I picked up Snipe. Got 3 headshots in a row in 1 round. Next round Torque bow. I get 3 kills with it and one of the kills saved my Teammates life! Next round sniper. My teammate races me to pick up snipe first. same goes for torque round. For the rest of the match... Question. Do you personally do this? Do you take the power weapon away from the person who is using it flawlessly?

hey egomaniac, if you are playing with randoms they don't owe you ****. it's not all about you, and even if you were doing amazingly with it, do you think they were keeping tabs of how well you were doing with it when they themselves are dodging fire and trying not to be killed while you get all the glory? if i want the best gun, i'll go running for it. if someone takes it doesn't use at well as i could, then that's a shame i missed out on getting it. don't cry about it though sweetheart. there's always next time :)

I lone wolf it 98% of the time and I can honestly say this game is more than playable. The only time it's difficult is when your on a team with randoms against a stacked team of 3 or more partied up players that use strats. I stay in those games and just work on my wallbounce and strafe but I never win them LOL.

I really do not think it is like that. I have never been all that great with snipe or torque but I pick it up anyway, because I want to get better with it. I can only do that by using the weapon itself and using it. I would practice against bots but their movements are all too predictable.

Honestly playing by one's self is horrible; even more so when playing against parties.

Most times your team will lose a round faster than you can commit suicide....and now they make it go for 5 rounds.....

I agree, playing it alone is dreadful. Playing with a full party, pretty good.

I can only assist my team so much, at some point 4 guys sitting in a random corner of a map is just too much for me to handle. It's unfortunate there aren't ranks based on skill, so the more skillful players would get matched together. Wish devs would stop using the "Time played" method for ranks. Halo 2 got it right, people need to follow that ranking system.

DeanOMiite
11-04-2011, 12:47 AM
i don't have any issues playing alone in quick match...in ranked matches though it's suicide unless you're lucky enough to get put against a bunch of randoms...but I've been being put against full teams in ranked when i'm a solo and I get worked when that happens.

Your so right. Im getting very tired of being put on teams from Mexico who cant speak english. Thought I bought Gears 3 not a new remake of Gears 2. Team mates are very stupid and do not hold down key areas of the map thus making you lose bad. What I also dont get is even when winning teammates seem to quit. Why play rank if your going to let your team down? I saw one guy have over 500 DCs from rank. I mean come on really? Maybe it should be like COD where they force you to be in game chat as well cause not being able to talk to your team mates is just so painful. Telling them there is a bad guy coming up behind them only for them to not turn around and so on. The DBS is just messing up my stats to the point I dont care anymore. I just did a match on Gridlock and not sure if it was lag or what but that damn thing took me out from more then 8 feet away, that is not melee range. I love shooting a dude so many times just for him to blast me away with such a noobed up weapon. Epic what happen to you guys I use to have so much faith in you guys? You made a good game and due to lag bugs you seem to never be able to fix lag and more lag did I say lag? I really hope you guys fix that DBS noobie stuff and Retro as well. Without a true skill ranking in place and not being able to play people from my own damn country is really bugging the hell out of me. I really wish I could pick english ONLY or U.S ONLY. Gears games are the only games that make me so mad due to issues that should be fixed. Hell only reason why I play it is due to the money I dumped into it. If I knew I wasnt going to be mislead and lied to by fake promises I would of just rented it instead.

i have less fun playing solo but i still have fun doing so. i never play ranked solo but i think i might start because i'm sick of people quitting out. just played for like 45 mins and got bored and hopped off. now if i was with atleast 1 more person i would be able to go until atleast 4am. oh well on to the next lol.

I wouldn't say it's unplayable as I usually do pretty well anyway, but it's definitely frustrating a lot of the time. I don't expect everyone to be amazing players, but people that don't understand even the most basic aspects of the game really get on my nerves. I remember a teammate that I had in KOTH last week that had only 51 caps in 34 matches and he had single digit kills in every match I played with him too. Ugh.

playing alone is not too terribly bad, but this is coming from someone who really isn't hard-pressed about winning or loosing. if u really want to win, it's best to play with at least 1-2 friends. although this game is heavily based on teamwork, individual skill plays a big role. u can use ur team mates as decoys to get the upper hand on an enemy. it is very possible to win with bad kids on ur team while everyone on the other team knows what they're doing. i play alone most of the time and get MVP if i care enough. it all depends on what u want to do as far as kills, wins, such and such.

Every match is different not to mention with spotting if your team is decent you can still act like a pack of wolves even without voice comm but if all else fails lone wolf it, alpha is 4 vs 4 and one person always has a chance to kill all 4 of them. Happy Hunting, you don't always come back with a buck but just remember to enjoy the outdoors and at some point your luck will change! Plus get your friends list up, use forums lots of people needing a regular team to play with who aren't MLG snobs (myself included)!

Playing by yourself is fun. You just can't be closed minded and treat yourself like your the next big "pro". This game can be played by yourself and you can enjoy it for hours. I enjoy it both by myself and with friends equally. When you go into a match lancering the entire time expecting your teammates to play like the NSAN3Z it sucks by yourself. If you just play how you want to play and not go to a designed weapon on the map crying when your teammates don't follow you and help your teammates it's fun. People just try to play this game to team based...That's when you over react and act like you need teammates.

Yeah....Playing by yourself you will lose to teams who go way to hard and only ONLY use the lancers you won't enjoy it but most games aren't played that way. Only about 20% of my games I play alone are like that. I'm still able to shoot positive against those teams playing smart and defending myself and not relying on my teammates to help me succeed and lending a hand to them in the process.

The Spotting system works great for showing your teammates the enemies as well.

I don't enjoy being a 59 and being put on a team of split screeners, and people rank 15 or under..

I just came off a 10 winstreak playing against 2 parties of 3 (at different times of course). I'm not amazing and some of my team mates were awful but we still won every time. My number one tip would have to be to spot, you have to spot like you've never spotted before. Whenever I lancer I spot. I even spot when I pop shot my Gnasher. It let's your team know where the action is at, and maybe they will show up and help. Probably not though...

Second tip is to stay positive while you play by yourself. Because yes, that idiot did just walk by you without reviving you, but once you get angry, you get stupid. And playing stupid makes you rage more, and then you become so angry that your hair will actually spontaneously combust and you will be bald for the rest of your life.

Not really sure what this means. All Ik know is I use my Lancer alot to support my teammates, only because they're the ones rushing for power weapons most of the time. Then when they get power weapons, they totally suck with them.

The times when I do try and take charge, usually no one follows me, or watches MY back. So, after I die a few times, I'm taken completely out of the game, and just waste time, praying for it to be over soon.

It's rare that I get good teammates. Unless I'm constantly getting newcomers to Gears, it's mind-boggling to me. Sometimes players are too focused on things like gamertags, and ranks, and bios.

For the love of Christ, COME TO PLAY!!!!

I just need more/new friends. All of my old buddies left Gears a long time ago after the fail that was GOW 2 unfortunately. Playing alone an entire day is almost impossible or at least unbearable. The lack of communication makes getting what needs to be done to win and slaughter another team harder than climbing Mount Everest.

I feel your pain on this really. I can't think of a single good reason why people take power weapons away from those that use them effectively. Ultimately they should be helping you secure the weapon with cover fire to help push the other team back. Which is how I am when I see someone is good with a weapon. I'm content in the support role even if that means getting more downs than kills or even going negative to help my team win. But to use an analogy with LeBron, I don't agree with. We all know that guy chokes when it matters most.

Gears is all about teamwork. Playing alone won't get you very far to tell you the truth (unless the other team is exceptionally bad).

I actually recommend against going into Ranked alone. You can get matched up with players that know what they're doing, but the chances of getting matched up against a full coordinated team are high, and winning against one with a team of randoms is extremely difficult.

If you must go solo, play Quick Match. Less full teams and more lone wolves.

Try being more vocal in matches as well if you aren't already. Then party up with people you meet.

IMO, the only thing that separates randoms and a full party is the use of a microphone. As long as players are actively looking at their teammates positions, and enemy positions, that all you need.

What usually happens is A. I run to a certain spot, and my entire team runs to the exact same spot. All up in my ass. I'm like get over there and flank em, dumbass. Or B. I rush in, and my team is nowhere to be found. And by the time I respawn, they're just leaving the spawn.

Play ranked then. Quickmatch is for fast matches not hindered by cumbersome matchmaking like trueskill. Although in quickmatch you'll get to play against far more skilled players which is the main way you improve.

I always play alone and it is definitely frustrating. Especially since I play KOTH. There's nothing more annoying then when I'm rushing in and sacrificing myself to get breaks when I see my teammates sitting nowhere near the hill or waiting for weapons to spawn. The worst is when you watch them get near a hill that needs to be broken but they don't go into it and instead chase someone down to get a kill.
