Custom Gear Characters (Update 07/05/13!!!???)SiFFteR Update

Working at Ubisoft has been great But It's Been too Damn Long since I posted an Update on my Locust SiFFteR!!!! He's not quite done yet, but this is where I am wth Him now.
As a 3d artist I have found GOW to be one of the most inspirational games I have played. So I have plans On doing my own Fan Fic.
Have gotten a texture pass done on my locust "SiFFteR"

Also since woking at Ubisoft has kept me pretty busy the only time i've found to do my own thing is on the bus on my way to work. They are sketches of some of the other characters that fit in with my fan fiction.(Break down on that coming soon.)

I don't resemble any of the characters so I had to create this gear version of my self and My lancer. I wanted it to look like it's being held together with other lancer parts and whatever would be around.

I don't remember how long it took me to do the character because I wasn't able to work on it consistantly, but the lancer took between 2 to 3 weeks

Well the story I have planned for this guy is that his squad has be killed and has become left alone w no conection to command or any other gears. His right shoulder armor has been destroyed, and he used whatever was around to replace it. in this case a Theron mask.

He already has got a basic skeletal rigging(no controls) so he is fully posable right now.
Yeah that's a metal plate on his cheekbone, had an injury to his face,and his only available option was to screw a metal plate on it.

Thanks alot, spent quite a bit of time making sure I got that to "snuff". I am currently working on designs of locust counter part for him to play with.

The character I suppose looks fine, but the rifle in my opinion looks a bit too clean even with the wire and broken saw teeth for the look you're going for.

I would suggest darkening its tone by at least 20%-30%, and some dirt/grime/scratches/uncleaned gunpowder should be liberally added, in addition to dried blood since it looks like he's used that chainsaw bayonet pretty heavily. From my own personal experience with my rifles, I can tell you that gun muzzles tend to be almost black after an extended period of shooting old (corrosive) military ammunition designed for long term storage, which is likely what he's been using -- unless he's had a really, really good cleaning kit handy complete with bore solvent and degreaser, I would suggest darkening at least the muzzle (if not the front area around it) to reflect usage there as well. The wire around the hand grip is a nice touch, but you may consider wrapping some old cloth/tape around the handle like on the hammerburst or the boltok pistol from Gears of War 1's skins.

For that truly authentic "my gun and I are both ****ed!" look, I would also suggest a burnt out or fading front and/or rear sight, faded or scratched bayonet paint, a broken and/or damaged/repaired magazine latch, and perhaps some damaged LED's and/or a worn or broken hand grip.

Otherwise, great job. Totally jelly here; been trying to figure out how to rip game meshes/skins forever so I can check them out more closely!

Thanks for the critique and and advice, good stuff there I will definately add in. After I get my locust done I figure I'll be overhauling the armour on my cog, and your insight into my rifle will be a simple update to go along with that.
I've been taking a look at ripping meshes my self, I have plans to create some females, but I'm not a modder or anything. I know that people can do it, I've seen it in the Mod forums.
I did Manage to get some off the net that were the main source of my reference, but as I just ckecked it's no longer available. Checking out actual game meshes is extemely helpful, it helped me alot. What programs do you use?

If you're referencing 3-D modeling programs, I don't use any at all because I don't know how to model for beans.

If you're referencing the critique advice, then that's because I've got a ton of personal experience with guns in real life; you also would remember until the day you die what a gun that's been used a lot looks like if you had to clean and/or fix it and 5 others from top to bottom with only old t-shirts and some bore cleaner. >.>

Thanks. That Is my dream, but I don't know if it will be possible this way, what would more likely happen is an add on that will let players customize their own.

I have concepted a Locust counter part for him to play with, he is named Siffter. Here are some variations thought about giving him a mask, but that doesn't line up w his story, and may lose the cigar since barrick has one

Where do you get the source models and textures from?
All the models and textures were done by me, except for Optimus Carmine where only the body was my model, with the modified texture. I found, (quite by accident) some Gears One models on some guy's Windows Live space, which were of a great help in my own stuff.
