I've always wondered what the fascination around here with the term "vet" was and why so many people think it's so fu<king amazing that they've played all three games. I just realized it's probably because 90% of the morons on the forums are only 12 years old so they see the first title in 2006 as the beginning of time or some sh1t because they probably can't remember anything prior to that.

Similar to how guys my age might think about "The Legend of Zelda" or "Mike Tyson's (not Mr. Dream's) Punch Out!"...except that was roughly 25 years ago.

Just stop calling yourselves vets...nobody cares. And yes, I am technically a "gears vet", I'm just too old to give a sh1t.

because gears has always been a game about respect.

Significance is. Someone new to the game shouldn't be able to walk in and start changing things around and/or the entire basis of gameplay shouldn't be altered to cater to these ppl either.

If youve played this game from the beginning and you've seen the nonsense that has gone on...the ppl that are "the veteran community" should be taken more seriously for a few reasons

1. Those are the ppl that continue to support... Turn them off and you lose your core audience.
2. We know this game better then others. Who would you want working on your car? Someone has worked on cars for 10 years or someone who worked on cars for 10 months?

The term vet is just a way to categorize as to not confuse. if you say something needs changing and you played 3 matches it hold less weight then someone who has played for 5 years.

cause we played the game enough to persuade epic to make a gears of war 2 and 3, only for them to dumb it down

because gears has always been a game about respect.

I sort of agree with the OP in the sense that being a "vet" at a video game is kind of odd. When people brag about it my response is "HEY YOU'RE PRETTY GOOD AT A VIDEO GAME!!! CONGRATULATIONS!! WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE FLAVOR OF COOKIE SO I CAN BAKE IT AND MAIL IT OUT TO YOU?"

I disagree with Gears being about respect although I see where you are coming from. I've been playing since GOW 1 so I've seen my fair share of shotgun battles and met people who are actually respectable people, But for the most part Gears 1,2 and 3 has the most Ignorant online community I have ever seen on an XBL game. I've definitely been disrespected more on GOW than any other online multiplayer game....And I'm not bad at the game either.

Haha same here man, and i love the Zelda serrie's btw (see my forum name) even though i havent played any new title after ocarina of time.
Dont know when u started gaming, but its fun to see how pathetic gaming has become over the years, community wise and how easy the game industrie is infuencing the masses.
There are kids who buy skins for 15$ on ebay...
I come from the time when devs cared about the game and there gamers. and we had free map packs and content.
Plus mod tools, and dedicated servers. With that last fact we went back in time, cause now its al special hen u play on a server LMAO. People dont know.....

It's because it's very common for people to try to say someone's opinion isn't of value if they haven't been playing the series since the beginning.

Many times opinions ARE less valuable if the person hasn't played the game much.

would you want a freshmen med school student operating on you? Or a surgeon with two doctorates?

Vet is just a simple easy term used to describe the community that's been here through all the issues the first two games have had. Vet is probably a stupid word to use, but whatever, it works. You just need to relax.

Becuase it shows how much fun we have had with Gears. It also normally means you are quite good which is somthing people should always be proud of and it seperates you from the nooblys who may not have as great of a understanding of things gears of war. More importantly why do you care so much that people like to show that they have played and stuck with the game from the start (through its ups and downs) and made it to the greatness that is GOW3?

Yeah, I think the term gets tossed around too much. I love gears and hope to keep playing it for a long time but being a vet doesn't make me feel special. As far as the community being respectful I don't think so. I've met a few nice folks outside of my buddies who play gears but met more than plenty of "wonderful" people as well. Like last night it was me and 4 bots against a team full of people I did pretty well by myself but at the end of the match when I was down about to die I got ganged up on. I mean really 5 on 1 and you gotta taunt me? lol Aren't you supposed to kick my arse? Also, this community whines about everything in the game be it the gnasher, sawed off, lancer, retro, etc. Instead they don't pay much attention to if they must complain to why can't we get an honest bit of info regarding the servers.

Why would we not be proud of thousands of hours that we put into the series? Just with any sport, there are more experienced players.

I don't even understand how or people played Gears 2. I can rant so long about how broken that game was. Gears vets who actually grinded through to level 100 I congratulate because of how bad it was. I can imagine the only ones who truly loved Gears 2 were new to the series...
